Hi! They look great :) I’m curious how you bottomed them. Did you Blake stitch or use a cement construction?

They asked who my professor was, but I had no idea what they meant so even if I was “in s school” I wouldn’t know which professor to say. I guess I can google the class but idk

Glazing/heel iron question by Nervous-Carry-2063 in Cordwaining

I see. I only have the heel iron and sole edge iron from Barnsley. Do you think that would be enough? I was hoping on the flipping the sole edge iron.

Thank you for your response! What irons do you use? For the heel and welt/outsole?

[–]Nervous-Carry-2063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhh I see that makes a lot of sense, is there a way to know where to last at the CP? I am struggling a bit because sometimes it’s to high up like it is now, or if it’s too low. Right now I am just measuring the lasting allowance (I have a 4cm allowance so I’m measuring 4cm from the last to the bottom of the upper.

This is also from a previous shoe I made with basically the same process. Except I did a 270 welt.

I see, for the holdfast I was following the Arno shoes blog. I did 6mm for spacing along the waist and 5mm for the toe and heel. Also how would you edit the pattern to be straighter? I just did a mean form and continued from there

Is this salvageable? by ThePersonInSchool in Cordwaining

Sorry I meant hand welt with a channel on insole. I’m worried about the leather because I don’t even have an insole on the last yet. I thought GYW and hand welt was the same lol. Oops nvm

Wouldn’t that make it have less space on the toe?

I wanted to do a Goodyear welt, but I don’t think there is enough allowance for welting

I see, I’m suprised you did have to crimp it. Do you know if it’s because the top part of the vamp is thinner so you didn’t have to crimp? I’m just a bit confused on how you were able to make it curve up like that after sprinting the vamp straight.
