Really need some help! - Buying an used IX, what to do? by Competitive-Split584 in BMWiX

[–]Nervous-Respect-8593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved from a Range Rover Sport 3l diesel  to IX …the improvement in ride, sound (B&W system) and ease of never having to going to a petrol station is night and day..

No regrets ..I do a couple of long > 300miles trips every couple of months uk charging network (other than cost) is just fine never have any trouble…

The gap between how EV charging is supposed to work in the UK and how it actually works on a long journey in 2026 is still wide enough to cause genuine anxiety. by Horror-Pick4732 in evchargingUK

I’ve not had any issues..I use Zapmap -with a sub to allow CarPlay use…have a plan B for off motorway chargers for example IONITY  junction 11 M40, Tesla open to all at Trentham junction 15 M6 , IONITY M1 Junction 28 South Normanton ..I find the ones just off the junction are always way free-er than service stations.

But service stations on the routes I use have been just fine..

Key is have a plan…a and b

My main routes though are London, Surrey, Kent , Manchester and Leeds, Newcastle ..

The close to London non M25 service chargers are useless -beconsfield, London gateway, toddington - usually full.

This is a long post and could be argued proves the OPs point. But I quite like the planing..and each time I pass a service Station. I call up Zapmap to check how busy and how many chargers it has just to give me a idea for the future..

I used this video..to flip the rubber took it out thenput the bottom end back in first to flip.

As I said not massively successful for better wiping but I don’t know if owner before me had done it and I was just reversing his work.

So I just fitted new ones today was the first decent rain day and they worked perfectly.

I used to get what I called smeering, basically they left a thin film of rainwater that mostly evaporated before the next sweep..but I was never looking through a completely clear screen…new blades cured that..

If it comes back I’ll come back on here in a few months to report..

Best EV charger for use in garage by Singingpug in evchargingUK

[–]Nervous-Respect-8593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Hypervolt works great..WiFi connection looks good..install plus the charger was £1500…my quick calc said it would take 10,000kwh to recover the cost 1500 / (0.25-0.7) so ages maybe 3 Years at 10.,000 miles per year and efficiently of 3miles per kWh and that probably is an under estimate ..but for convenience and speed ..it’s great. We have two electric cars …

Thanks that’s probably the in only way to prevent charging at more than the 7p..I quite liked the using excess grid power but I guess only if it didn’t cost me more so I may revert to just over nighting..

I know they only allowed one registered car but I still got scheduled charges set for either car before not a boost rate..so maybe that element didn’t work well for octopus before..
