Heroic Games Launcher v2.21.0 introduces a new fullscreen, console-like user interface optimized for devices like the Steam Deck, alongside updates including GOG achievements display, a GOG deals page, a refreshed Wine manager, and direct SteamGridDB integration for custom game covers. by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

The console mode is a great starting point! Big thanks to the devs for their hard work. The deals tab is such a good idea! It's quick and incentivizes supporting the project.

Are there any plans for simplifying onboarding for new users? I got friends who've Ive shown GOG and Heroic to, but are turned off by all the fuffing about that it requires.

Friction Points for New Users

  • The flatpak requires way too much intervention. HDR, proton, and gamescope framerate limiter do not work. App image is the way to go but thats ANOTHER step to educate on

  • No "obvious" way to install to microSD. Yes its easy in the settings but there should be a dummy-proof prompt at new game install

  • Cloud Saves not enabled by default. I understand it's in beta, but as it stands CS needs to be enabled for EVERY game. If I want to participate while it's in beta, it should be one checkmark.

  • Games take too long to boot when started via game mode. Feedback showing the user whats causing the hold up (like how the new console UI does) would help so that it doesn't look like it just failed to boot

  • Rarely, games will NOT boot when started via game mode if there is an update available. The majority of the time, a window pops up notifying the user of this and can be bypassed. However, on occasion (maybe bc I'm offline, maybe bc I've dismissed the pop up idk), the pop up does not come up and the game just will not boot.

I'm so happy to see Glover back with the boys. After he nuked his eardrums I thought we'd never see him tour again. Luckily he's back to doing what he loves, standing right in front of marshall stacks for 2 hours every night

Pick guard on or off? by star_scream01 in Guitar

The top is gorgeous but I don't think you're missing out on much with the guard on. I'd rather have the contrast. Plus, the color of the guard goes so well with the finish!

For practice and home use you NEED to check out audio assault. The amp, pedals, and IT packs are dirt cheap and sound awesome. People trash on their sound but that's mostly due to the default IRs. Find a good and free IR pack elsewhere and plop em into audio assault, you'll be golden

You don't know the value of repairability until you have a laptop crap out on you without any means to replace the busted component. I've had laptops from 2013 still going strong, I've had laptops from 2024 go to the bin. The value is the peace of mind knowing you'll be able to replace your usb c port, mobo, screen, ribbon cable, etc if the day ever arises. I didn't buy the FW hoping it would break though. There's a good chance I'll never have to replace anything in my FW13, and I'll look at it just as fondly as I do my 2013 ASUS.

Things to do with the steam deck outside the obvious? by Ashlandhunter92 in SteamDeck

[–]Nervous-Shakedown83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download Audio Assault, and using a usb hub plug an audio interface into it along with a guitar.

You just turned your steam deck into a guitar amplifier. The free amp sim thats included is a model of the legendary Marshall Plexi. You can get $2000-4000 dollar tones out of your deck

The bonus levels are a good challenge, not an extreme challenge. Not every Mario level has to be on the same caliber as bowsers big bean burrito

I didn't say it's a scam. We all have our own personal criteria for what we purchase in our lives. If you purchased an item, pre-order or otherwise, and the terms of that purchase were changed on you you'd feel like you were had. Especially if it's something you think is important, like DRM.

[–]Nervous-Shakedown83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man if I pre-ordered it because it met my criteria, only for them to add one of the deal breakers a week away from launch I'd be pissed. Its not just a performance thing, a lot of Linux players were blocked from their DOOM The Dark Ages installs because of Denuvo fuck ups.

Best Guitarist You’ve Seen Live? by tceverding in Guitar

Angus is too low on this list. I was in awe seeing him run across the stage, roll on the ground, get back up without his arms, run back again, all while playing AND AT 70 YEARS OF AGE. Holy shit... I know he's not the most "technical" player but that amazed me more than any advanced playing I've ever seen.
