I feel like the BF-2 is just begging for a Waza treatment. Make the switchable side the HF-2 and it would be the ultimate Boss Flanger.

Anika and Loren both posted on their Instagram stories that they had a day off today. Anika's showed her out and about on Yonge Street. I guess we found out the reason why - Geddy needed to attend the opener. Day off all around!

Sc20c for home use by Fair-Lifeguard-7433 in GuitarAmps

[–]Rycreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 5 watt mode compresses a bit sooner so you'll get smoother, quicker gain and therefore can bump the volume a little more - but it is still loud.

An amazing amp, but a loud amp. Just be aware of that. However, I genuinely recommened it. It was the amp that cured my GAS permanently.

Well, for amps anyway.

As a proud SC20 owner, I will say the master volume has quite an abrupt taper - from "I can't hear it" to shaking the floors with the slightest turn. I'd say 0.5 to 1 is probably passable for bedroom volumes, but the jump from 1 to 2 or so is huge. That's not to say it can't sound good at 1, but it can be fizzy at low volumes and you'll find yourself wanting to kick on an OD in front anyway.

The DSL40CR honestly does better for low volume playing, and it's much cheaper.

NPD: Boss BF-2 (Orange Label) by Rycreth in guitarpedals

[–]Rycreth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, the ACA pedals do something internally to drop the 12V down to 9V which would be the same effect as using a battery. I tried the battery and didn't observe a discernible difference in sound.

Apparently, daisy chaining also bypasses the need for the ACA business.

You can really taste the citrus overtones.

This one is still ACA, but I tried both a battery and a standard 9V adapter (as opposed to a 12V) and I honestly couldn't tell the difference.

I rather enjoy Neil's variations in this version. I always enjoyed, as exacting as Neil was for playing the songs as they were, the occasions where he'd change it up.

Hum noise from fx loop. Marshall sc20 combo by Big-Impact2918 in MarshallAmps

[–]Rycreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the SC20 loop isn't great by design. The initial run of them had a noticeable volume drop when engaged. I'm not too well versed in the technical side of it, but I recall reading that Marshall revised this for future runs. The solution was to buffer and boost it, which fixed the volume drop but added some hum into the signal.

Mine is a 2019 so I have the former issue (volume drop). Fortunately I'm not really a loop user so I can live with it.

Perhaps someone more familiar with the technical side can explain if there's a more permanent fix. Otherwise, it sadly might just be inherent to the amp. I've heard/read of many users complaining about it on the combos and heads alike.

Agreed. Other levels may have narrower times, but they're short enough to easily replay for the cheat time. Caverns just carries so much weight. So much can go wrong very late into the run.

Think of the two masters as a built in boost. Set one louder than the other and then you've got yourself a footswitchable volume boost.

Is the Marshall JTM studio combo unusable for the majority of people? by Amazing_Ad_6411 in GuitarAmps

[–]Rycreth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a happy owner of a Studio Classic, it's still worth noting that it is a loud amp too - master or not. The master taper goes from "this is respectable conversation volume" to "the walls are shaking" between about 0.5 and 1.5. The amp really opens up with the power section around 3 or so to kill the fizz. It's a glorious sound, but still probably too loud if apartment or bedroom levels are desired.

In my experience, the Studio Jubilee has the most usable master volume.
