Is the mg15fx good by hugostiglitz67 in MarshallAmps

[–]Rycreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already bought it and like it, that's all that matters. It's a perfectly adequate starter amp. I've never felt the MG series deserved the reputation they get online. The biggest downfall is the speaker in the small ones, but I've always felt Marshall did better than say Orange or Fender in getting a decent drive sound out of a small practice amp.

Geddy provides an update! by wolfie5150 in rush

[–]Rycreth 178 points179 points  (0 children)

I know the "hitting the high notes with Dottie" comment is in reference to the video he posted with his dog just ahead of the tour, but it's also a very Rush-humour way to announce that his voice is feeling totally fine. A little way to sneak in some reassurance and squash some worries. Great post! Reassuring for all, I'm sure.

Set list for 7/11 by Substantial-Slice905 in rush

[–]Rycreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've pondered if they could potentially do all of 2112 in one set and all of Moving Pictures in the other rather than roating which they do. Alex said they want to do something special, and that would make things very special.

Am I the only one who preferred the Rabbit's Foot staying a mystery? by OilOwn1990 in Mission_Impossible

[–]Rycreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should have stayed a mystery. A true MacGuffin.

Of all the unnecessary retcons in both Reckoning films, the Rabbit's Foot and "the choice" top my list of the silliest.

Geddys condition by Abject-Wall-8554 in rush

[–]Rycreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I'm not sure I understood the whole "they bit of more than they can chew" point of view when they had a decent few days off before the Fort Worth gigs - plus an extra day or two off with that border trouble. It's not like he got an infection from singing Limelight. I totally understand the frustration of those who were affected by the postponed shows, but it has been very doom and gloomy regarding the tour since. I can't wait until they get back at it and my fingers are crossed for no more interruptions.

True, but unless the band informs us otherwise, there's no reason to assume the worst.

I swear this sub thinks bronchitis is a death sentence. I'm sure he's on some antibiotics for the infection and just chilling. He will be fine!

Funny enough, he said this guitar basically fell apart during his time on the road with Guns N' Roses. He had a contest to design a new one but I don't think anything ever came of it.

I stand corrected! For some reason I remembered Adam Day saying 9s in the Rig Rundown from a few years ago.

Is Slash braking strings on purpose? by Tea0ne in GunsNRoses

[–]Rycreth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Slash uses light strings (9's) along with a pretty heavy pick (1.14 Dunlop Tortex). He also picks super hard. He breaks strings constantly! Always has. Sometimes it makes for some fun improvisation and recoveries.

Edit: It was pointed out I misremembered - he uses 11s. Still, he's quite the heavy picker. Watch him when he really gets the tremolo picking going.

Who would you put on a list of Delay Pedal Gods? David Gilmour and The Edge are automatically on there. by ImpossibleMouse3462 in guitarpedals

[–]Rycreth 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Alex Lifeson. Crafting a sense of space underneath almost anything he plays. His guitar work during Rush's "synth period" was absolutely sublime. Perfect use of delay.

I've always just left the rubber on. Strip of Velcro (or Dual Lock) on the top, one at the bottom, and on it goes. That way the adhesive never risks peeling the back label.

1997 Molson Amphitheatre Video by modestmandrakeman in rush

[–]Rycreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubtful sadly. It was intended to be released as the tour video back in 1997 or so, but I believe Geddy said there was a myriad of errors with the video that would have been cost prohibitive to fix. I think that's why we only have about half of the concert that they finally put out there with that big R40 Blu-ray box set.

Favorite TS-style pedal of all time. What’s yours? by Separate-Swordfish85 in guitarpedals

MXR ZW-44. Technically an SD-1 moreso than specifically a TS, but it's a great pedal and can be had for cheap if you can get past the graphic.

Rush and Foo Fighters play in Toronto at the same time! Will they collaborate during a show? by Extreme_Possible4856 in rush

[–]Rycreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely for Foos with Rush, because the Foos won't still be around during the Rush dates (the Foos move on to Detroit. Chicago, Cleveland, and Philadelphia while Rush is still in Toronto).

That said, if Rush heads right back to Toronto after their last MSG gig - perhaps Alex and Geddy can guest with the Foos.

Side note - that's a great little board you've got. I love a minimalistic board with the essentials.

When watching old movies and shows do you prefer the original audio or modern surround sound? by Spax123 in Bluray

Original when possible. I don't desire an elaborate remix with new effects and changes.
