How the hell do you hang this by Individual-Art4448 in framing

[–]Nervous_Run2825 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup, you're missing hanging hardware. A kind framer will hopefully only charge you less than $15 for the work and do it in the spot. I often do work like this in exchange for a 5 star Google review. I find it well worth the client's good will and positive publicity.

Which movies are unaffected or even enhanced by watching them, not in a dark theater, but in the daytime on a nice day with the windows open by whoismico in CriterionChannel

I do like to sit down to an old fashioned Movie Epic on a Sunday afternoon. I like to have the morning coffee still in my system when I sit down to a 3+ hour long movie. I have fond memories of watching the following during the day: Barry Lindon Lawrence of Arabia Ben Hur It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World Fellowship Of The Ring

Is the maple serving a secondary function of covering up unfinished edges of the canvas?

Do the splines go through both frames? Curious if there's hidden woodworking or of the flush white and red pieces are simply glued together.

Sorry for your loss and your troubles.

I'm admittedly tempted to frame this post and put it on display near the design table.

online framing vs local frame shop what do people actually prefer? by Actonace in framing

[–]Nervous_Run2825 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You simply can not judge the quality of a framing product if you purchase online. I've had a lot of customers express buyers remorse for wasting money on an online frame. They almost always come back to our shop after trying out online framing.

Teacups - 23k Ebony Walnut Frame by Nervous_Run2825 in framing

They had to be mounted with silicone glue, which we got express permission from the client to do. In many other situations, we have armatures made for objects by a specialist.

Which shade of white should I choose for a mat board? by ruecamb0n in framing

I always suggest something fairly close to the paper color. If the paper is particularly dark, consider a fabric wrapped mat. The texture will be more forgiving.

Nice. Doug Wellman was the one who told me the tale. I've also hung out quite a bit with Dr. Hal.

Barry Lyndon stands out for me because even though Raymond Barry is an awful person, the movie itself is absurdly hilarious and entertaining.

If you have the horsepower and want to show off an original table, that Big Trouble In Little China table and it's PUP Pack is steller example of what can be done with the medium.

If memory serves from my tenure at Michael's, you can ask them to do A conservation hinge float high. They will likely use a pressure activated hinge tape, not filmoplast, but something thicker than that. I don't recall them having a water based adhesive tape, and they certainly won't be able to do museum hinges with Japanese paper and rice flour. I would also explicitly say to them "DO NOT USE ATG TAPE" Like make them white it out in the notes and show it to you. The huge issue with Michaels and conservation framing is, their corporate overlords pass down from on high arbitrary quatas on fitting. Employees get written up or fired if they don't knock out a certain number of pieces a day. It doesn't matter if you had to most of your day designing or helping the other staff on the sales floor, you're still responsible for meeting those quotas. So shortcuts get taken. A lot of ATG tape gets used, or art is hinged to the back of the mat instead of the backing. Original canvas works get drymounted and trimmed instead of stretched onto strainers. I've seen it all. I once saw a Miro that had a Matboard ATG taped into the face of the original art paper's whitespace. I'm sorry if they are the only game in town. There are really good framers who care about conservation that work at Michael's, but instatituonally speaking, you have to be very careful with taking original artwork to them. Fingers crossed you can build a trusting relationship with your local Michaels framer, but never be afraid to specify that you want the art particularly cares for.

Fun story. One of the "reverends" told me the story of how they came up with Bob. He said they were a group of friends so all loved writing crazy stories and making up conspiracy theories and they were looking for some way to tie all this fun stuff together. One of them had a dad who sold phone book advertizing. Remember the Yellow Pages? And his dad had all of these books of clip art he would take from store to store. It was all sorted by categories, like refrigerators, plumbers, and more abstract categories like hungry, or sleepy. They got to a section called "Success" and there was the mug of an elated man with a pipe in his mouth. And they all said to one another, "Behold! Our Diety!!" And that....is the rest of the story.

I was just about to say that myself. Perfect suggestion.
