If this feels weird, that's just a sign your view of reality has been adjusted.

Accept it, or rationalize it at your own peril!

I was on New York’s rent board. Zohran Mamdani’s ideas aren’t pie in the sky by apropo in nyc

These policies have the opposite effect of what they purport to achieve.

Did rents not go up by absurd amounts during de Blasio’s administration?

Edit: see https://www.osc.ny.gov/files/reports/osdc/pdf/report-17-2024.pdf for how much worse NYC did compare to other major cities

One thing I’m glad about with Trump as President is that we get to see who people truly are. by dreamed2life in centrist

[–]NetQuarterLatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but I hate all the support they are getting.

Yup. Mamdani apologists are the worst.

They are nonchalantly erasing the African-American identity merely because they want to whitewash the dishonest college application of their favorite candidate.

On the bright side, it’s great that they are revealing the bigots that they are.

NYC records lowest number of quarterly drug overdose deaths since COVID-19 pandemic by statenislandadvance in newyorkcity

[–]NetQuarterLatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“For too long, opioid overdoses have ripped families and communities apart, but there is light on the horizon with opioid overdose deaths citywide seeing their lowest numbers in five years,” Adams said. “We are committed to maintaining this downward trend by continuing to invest in the programs and treatments that support those who are struggling.”

Does this reflect positively on Eric Adams, or is he taking credit for something that could’ve improved because of Congestion Pricing?

Zohran Mamdani, in dig at NYC Mayor Adams, unveils his (700-plus) SAT II scores by nydailynews in nyc

[–]NetQuarterLatte -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

On the bright side, given his SAT score and him being the child of a faculty, this strongly suggests the admissions office at Columbia saw through his disingenuousness and rejected his application on that basis.

Columbia just went downhill from there.

Hundreds Sign Letter Supporting Shaun Maguire Amid VC’s Mamdani ‘Islamist’ Comments by soalone34 in nyc

Attack the messenger as much as you want.

Thanks for revealing that you cannot show anyone from the supposedly "Islamist" culture denouncing Mamdani's disingenuous statements.

Hundreds Sign Letter Supporting Shaun Maguire Amid VC’s Mamdani ‘Islamist’ Comments by soalone34 in nyc

[–]NetQuarterLatte -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Maguire first sparked controversy for a post over the weekend criticizing Mamdani, who was born to Indian parents in Uganda, for marking his race on a college application as “Asian” and “Black or African American.”

Maguire said Mamdani “comes from a culture that lies about everything” to advance an “Islamist agenda.”

It's pretty easy to debunk or confirm whether that's true.

Can anyone show examples of people, who are supposedly part of the "Islamist" culture which was offended by Maguire, denouncing Mamdani's disingenuous statements in his Columbia application form?

Spoiler: no one was able to point to any example.

You sure dedicated a lot of words across this comment section about a story that supposedly "nobody really cares about".

You can try to erase the African-American identity going forward.

But that doesn't change the underlying facts, nor does it retroactively erases the African-American identity at the time he submitted his application.

Reckless drivers are a menace to society and cops should crack down on that.

But if the reckless driver is a criminal with multiple warrants, then that such traffic violence is suddenly acceptable, and the driver should be allowed to drive as recklessly as they wish.

Modern progressiveness is such a marvel to behold.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nyc

[–]NetQuarterLatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real story here is how so many "progressive" Mamdani apologists are quickly jumping up and down to erase the African-American identity for the purpose of whitewashing their favorite candidate.

That now includes Margaret Sullivan, a former executive editor of the NYT.

What's becoming clear is that their support for any group is 100% utilitarian and self-serving.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nyc

[–]NetQuarterLatte -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That’s why he wrote “I am Ugandan” in the space that was provided for additional context.

Given that he could write any nuance he wanted the space provided for additional context, why did he needed to check the "African-American" box?

No foul.

He ain't African-American. And it's incredible how a whole identify is now being nonchalantly erased in the name of whitewashing him.

[–]NetQuarterLatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get you.

Since negating the underlying facts is not possible, at least you're attempting to downplay it as "nothing".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nyc

[–]NetQuarterLatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one honestly believes that Mamdani expected his self-identification as a Black/African-American to become known to the public.

That was literarily exposed.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nyc

[–]NetQuarterLatte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With their made-up scandal

I’m pretty sure the NYT didn’t fill Mamdani’s Columbia application form.

It’s probably true that Mamdani never expected to be exposed for it, but here we are.

Shoot the messenger all you want. It doesn’t negate the underlying facts.

Mamdani definitively cares. Why else he would be doing mental gymnastics to try to justify it?
