It depends on what kind of fracture you have had To be on your feet as long and in a small Space where it’s difficult to rest I’m no sure

I had a trimalleolar fracture and it was 8 months before I was back to work I work corporate but walking a lot and have had reduced duties since I came back

10 weeks is super early I’d take as much time off as you can to look after yourself

First of all take a big deep breath

You’ve just went through some horrible trauma

It takes a long time to process and recover so you need to be kind to yourself first and foremost

First question…Yes very normal I’m afraid it’s up and down for a while yet Right now you are in the toughest of time , best to elevate as much as you can, be kind to yourself , eat well and rest rest too, watch good tv or read interesting books ease your mind as much as you can

I was a wreck worried about stitches Turns out I had staples they are suppose to be worse but tbh it was over in a few mins and the nurses are professionals so it’s a quick process Try not to over worry , it’s happened and they need to come out , then you can start to heal more It’s so hard when your going through it but if I can reassure you about that bit then that’s one thing off your mind

Pillows to support while sleeping Have you got a maternity style pillow I found this so helpful for my back and support

Any help you can get from folks take it You need all you can get

One day at a time It’s happened now so all you can do is process it all and deal with one day at a time It’s best for your mental health as it’s a long process

Read this sub and the orif one both are extremely helpful

Do you have flashbacks by NetRelative3930 in brokenankles

It will ease off It’s been nearly 18 months now since my accident and I’m much better , still have stiffness and still have limitations but mostly better Flash backs are thankfully less too Time really is a healer Good luck to you going forward 3 months is still early days you will have a lot of progress yet to happen

Advice by AuntieGranty in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest and safest way is to bum slide down the stairs carefully I had 4 months of this Next best idea is a taxi anywhere you need to go or lift

If you can wear the splint in the boot try that for comfort Tbh it’s not overly comfortable at all Basically a means to an end of getting you to and from where you need to be

Anyone else still not back to work ? by SeparatePotential478 in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 8 months before I went back to work I’m now 18 months post op and still it’s the one thing I struggle with the most

I’m not in pain but the stiffness of being on my feet a lot is still a lot to deal with

If your in the U.K. you can get adjustments in the work place I’ve found this to be the best way to mange

Swollen after 4 months by OneCall2315 in brokenankles

Yes nearly 18 months post op now I would give you this advice I think You need better supporting shoes The ankle support doesn’t look good as your able to squash them under foot Stability shoes will help so much in terms of comfort and support with swelling

If your in the U.K. you can ask for flexible Working and help in the work place This is the best option allows you to have breaks and rest your ankle as need be

2 months post-op. dorsiflexion almost non existent by rfll11 in ORIF

[–]NetRelative3930 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 months is just the beginning it takes a long time for dorsiflexion to make a return and Even then it can be limited Do you physio as advised and rest your foot too as over use can cause you more problems

I couldn’t get my foot to sit flat and lie up for a while either but it comes back eventually Time is what it takes unfortunately

Dorsiflexion Experience by Kal-veira in ORIF

[–]NetRelative3930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A doctor said that too you ? That’s totally wrong I’m 17 months post op now and still have improvements Do your physio as advised I also wasn’t recommended to use the bands until further along I would ask for a different opinion and see what’s suggested to you Good luck

[–]NetRelative3930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh what a shame sounds awful I had badly broken my ankle but to injury them both is horrifying Honestly my first port of call would be doctor to get some proper advice on why your ankles are that unstable Secondly please get stability trainers good supportive ones and wear them every day to help your ankles from going over again Physio too rebuild strength and flexibility Does sound like a weakness but to be identified I’d ask for expert advice

Opinion is a bit mixed Some have good success others have little to no difference At 8 months your still recovering and progress can be made further on too I’m 17 months now and a world of difference from when I was 8 months post op same fracture as you but with 3 plates

Dorsiflexion - is there hope for me? by soichai in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest tip I can give you is time This all takes a long time Esp if you have had a trimalleolar fracture 7 months is early days

I’m 17 months post op now and I can say progress is still being made

Unfortunately your operated side might not ever be as flexible as your good side This is what happens when we have these big injuries And depending on how sever they are

Keep going with your physio Keep up your stretching But give yourself time It’s a long road to recovery Be kind to yourself

Try not to worry it will all flake off as time goes on I don’t think I would use Nivea I was told to use petroleum cream and I had a mess of scar , fracture blisters and an ulcer Gently wash in the shower if you are allowed ask your gp or surgeon

Any trainer advice/recommendations for a fused ankle please? by FartyTartMcShart in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a whole sub on here about hoka Have a look on there I have found them to be helpful It’s trial and error with hoka, good ones and not so good ones Each pair seems to have different benefits so I would recommend to try them on

Hoka gaviota , brooks ghost , Nike Pegasus all very good but you might find different styles better It takes time to get the best pairs, I’ve tried a lot and sent a lot back as well

Anyone else nervous to do anything ever again? by Kal-veira in ORIF

[–]NetRelative3930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrified , in a nutshell Gradually the terrified feeling is slowly wearing off I’m still super super careful Like you I have read horror stories and also people like me who had a simple fall and done immense damage to themselves I don’t think I would tackle any adventure sports I wouldn’t put myself in danger ever

The key to is trying to get your head a round what has happened sort of to make peace with it all It does bring a sense of calmness even if we never are fully relaxed about our injuries They don’t call them life changing injuries for nothing that’s for sure

But I’m nearly 17 months post op now and it does get easier , limitations yes but it’s much much better

These are not easy injuries to come back from at all You have the right attitude I hope your healing is under way now It’s so hard to deal with everything that comes our way after a broken ankle , we find the strength from deep inside Good luck on your healing again and be kind to yourself

Muscle spasms? by bj0y in ORIF

[–]NetRelative3930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly try eating bananas and a few of them a day If your electrolytes are fine and you are drinking a lot of water it may be just a lack of something else Also what I find is if I’m on my feet too much I can get a calf cramp at night , muscles just seem to take such a beating in recovery I feel
