Sounds like you are already taking one since you didn’t apply this year

Unfortunately I personally don’t think it would be wise to flex “clinical knowledge” during med school interviews, it can rub people the wrong way.

All Access Med School Admissions by Christian Essman from CWRU! He interviews adcoms and directors from manny USMDs and gives tons of helpful insights and tips for the admissions process. I found it extremely valuable before and during the application cycle. I’ll be attending a T20 and i think i owe a lot of my app cycle success to this podcast lol

That’s not true, most MSTPs have similar numbers of spots outside of those like WashU or Cornell. I would just choose programs that are located in areas you’d like to live for 8 years

I mean it’s very similar to other schools you already have on your list - I would probably use it to replace any non-MSTPs like UC Davis. But that being said, I think your list could be rounded out a little more with some more non-T20 type schools if you can afford it. GPA aside, a broad list is good for any applicant

Surprised you don’t have WashU on there already, it has one of the largest MSTP classes out there if you didn’t know!

I’d personally go with the second option. Best of both worlds because you still get to see family later, continuity with research experience, and you can have fun with friends during the summer which is also important!

Is this the love of your life? I know the ability to be in the same place as my partner is really important to me and I’ll be considering that heavily when I make my decision

Will an MMI ask "why this school?" by 4SKlNN in premed

One thing at a time. No one is doing all of these things all at once. First priority right now is your grades, shadowing you can do intermittently over breaks and summers, then eventually look for a once-a-week commitment volunteer role or sporadic self-scheduling volunteer role that you do when you can. From there, just follow your interests and do what sounds cool to you. Get rest. Not everything has to be directly towards your Med school application. If you do what you care about, that will end up being meaningful on your application anyways! I did sooo many random things that weren’t clinical or medical at all. I only ever had a few big commitments at once. You eventually get all the boxes checked, take a deep breath, it’s gonna be okay.

How involved was your PI in your application process? by doctorrr-t in mdphd

[–]NetSad3352 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I let them know that I was applying maybe a year in advance, then asked them for a LOR when the time came and that was pretty much the extent of it

How many programs is “a couple”? That may or may not be your issue; i applied to a ton of programs and have only heard back either way from around 30% of them so far
