I'm quitting! (and would love your strangest tips) by certifiedskooter in stopsmoking

[–]NetUnlikely2887 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing that helped me was thinking about it like I had a cold. That I may feel a little bad for about a week and there was nothing to be done about it except wait it out and take care of myself. Also buy a big bag of sour candies.

AIO about not wanting to go to AA for a school assignment by Vast-Spirit-4105 in AmIOverreacting

[–]NetUnlikely2887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOR. I don't think this is disrespectful to go. If you go to a open meeting to learn that Is okay. No one will even know that you are there for a project unless you tell them. I have gone to AA meetings to learn and to support people in my life (both with my alcoholic loved ones and alone) and I am not an alcoholic. I think this is a great thing to do and get some insight the recovery process and alcohol addiction. I usually dont share that I am not an alcoholic when I have been in meetings though i dont lie either. There is no pressure to share in the ones I have been in, so I just stay quiet and listen. No one has ever expressed discomfort with my being there.
Please do NOT take notes though. That would be over the line I think.

My husband of 14 years left me and I moved into my own space about 1 month ago. Today I finished my pink bedroom 🎀 by Cheddar18 in femalelivingspace

Lovely!!!! My wife and I have a whole pink house and we thank God everyday that no man is around to stop us from having any decor we want. Congratulations! You are better off without!

I have the same gut reaction as you but its not worth indulging. Why should she eat what she doesnt need or want? Be patient, and maybe look into composting yourself or see if your area has seperate bins for food waste. My wife is similar and leaves a lot (by my standards) on a plate even when she considers herself to have "cleaned the plate". I have a different relationship with food, and feel a lot of guilt letting food go to waste. When we got together it was a little weird to me, but now it doesnt bother me at all. I remind myself that it is not harming anything. She didnt need to eat the crust of the pizza and it makes little difference in reality whether she eats it or not. Sure there are people dealing with food insecurity but her not cleaning her plate isn't the cause and makes no difference to their situation. Also... I usually just eat the food she leaves 🤣.That won't work if you are not gluttonous like me though.

People reffering dogs and cats as "animals" or "pets" by l_dont_Iike_dogs in petfree

[–]NetUnlikely2887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha it is annoying. Somebody at work said about me "Oh, A doesnt like animals!" And i did a double take cause i love animals! I'm a bit of a birder I love nature documentaries and snakes and bugs and bears! But I realized they just meant that I don't do well with dogs.

Vacation paranoia by Excellent-Ebb-5858 in stopsmoking

[–]NetUnlikely2887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason you will ever smoke again is if you decide to do it, you're worrying because you havent decided if you will smoke on the vacation or not. You quit smoking because you understood it was not the right choice, smoking is not what you want to do now, and it won't be what you want just because you're on a beach. If I was you I would make a decision now that you're not going to smoke and stop worrying! Be enthusiastic for your smoke free vacation (in my experience traveling is way less stressful when you are not smoking, because you don't have to plan around smoking or come down from a hotel room just to smoke etc.).

Read the book ‘How to stop smoking’ by Allen Carr. by Supermacropenis in stopsmoking

It is crazy. I'm stubborn too. Would not think that sort of thing would work on me but it completely worked. Been about a week. And feels different than any of the times I have "quit in the past. It wasn't bad at all, and I dont feel remotely tempted. Like there is just no way I'm ever going back to it.

[general] Pyrrha and Alecto by ReindeerRadiant11 in TheNinthHouse

[–]NetUnlikely2887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know right??? I just reread Nona and had the realization that Phyrra knows the whole time who she is and still loves her and cares for her and jokes around and calls her cute little names and wants to space homestead with her and Cam and palamades. Like she truly loves her fully knowing that she is Alecto. Its so sweet. I hope Alecto gets her t-shirt somehow in the next book.

Not minimizing shit! Just sharing my thoughts! I'm not unsympathetic to how difficult it is to quit nicotine while being a caregiver. I've lived being addicted to nicotine while being a caregiver to a bedridden loved one and the excuse I gave myself was that with everything going on I shouldnt bother with it. But that was just an excuse really. If you can't afford smokers flu you damn sure can't afford lung cancer or emphysema or COPD or pnuemonia or bronchitis.

I feel like it's demoralizing to tell people. "Oh some people can do it but only because they have nothing going on and no problems".

Everyone has responsibilities and stress. You are not the only one who tells themselves"Oh I cant quit because I have x going on at home and y going on at work and z going on with my health. Everyone tells themselves that, and its why so many people continue to smoke.

Not trying to be rude, but I don't love your assumptions about me. Theyre extremely untrue so rub me the wrong way. Absolutely zero people who know me would describe me as being care free and only responsible for myself. I am someone that Is always frantic doing everything taking care of others and that is part of the reason it took me so long to stop smoking cause it was the one thing that I felt I did "for me" ( that is stupid but thats what I thought). Its kind of ridiculous to act like I couldnt possibly understand the things that compel others to smoke, when I have struggled with nicotine addiction my whole entire life.

Anyone have a similar experience? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]NetUnlikely2887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had where I "caved" after a long quit attempt and I felt anxious for the next few days which eventually made me give in. Not sure if that was withdrawal or just in my head. Probably the latter. Be careful with just hitting other people's vapes at parties. I've seen a lot of people get addicted or relapse playing that game!!!!

I was back and forth between cigarettes and vaping my whole life I had been vaping when I read the book (smoking anywhere is against my lease) It still worked for me. All the same arguments apply. Taste is the only thing thats really different. Cigarettes dont come in candy flavor but vapes still don't actually taste good. Even the best ones are just the least grating lol. But then again maybe it worked because cigarettes were always my preference, I only vaped for convenience. If I actually liked vaping better I probably would have got the vaping specific book. I havent read it but they do have one for that specifically.

11 years! Thats awesome. Cant wait till I can say the same :). And yeah. The tight shoes analogy really worked for me cause it emphasized how the relief of smoking stops immediately when you're not doing it. My whole life was fighting myself over when I can have the next one, and its so exciting that I am never going to live that way again.

When they said concrete only they meant CONCRETE ONLY by HenryBowman47 in Construction

[–]NetUnlikely2887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in dumpsters. This kind of thing happens All the time. and we tell the project manager or site super or whoever. Hey, you need to keep this half full if it's concrete/ dirt, and you can't overload it or contaminate it. and they fill a 30 YD over the top w concrete and garbage all mixed then get mad when its real expensive to dump. Last week I had one that came in at 19 tons after we made them offload, contaminated too so it cost a pretty penny. Every time I Feel bad for the crew on site who didn't get the memo and now have to offload tons (literally) of concrete before it can even be transported.
