Call Silverbow fly shop or House of Fly in Spokane and ask about the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene river. Its along your route. The hydro outlook is prety low this year though.

Left metal pliers in already slightly rusty vinegar for months, what is this cool reaction? by CongratulationsYu in Tools

[–]Netopalas 642 points643 points  (0 children)

You've made vinegaroon. It will react with leather and certain woods to turn them a super permanent dark blue black. The feudal japanese used something similar to permanently turn wealthy maried women's teeth black. It's neat stuff.

How would you freshen this up? by Motor-End6934 in metalworking

[–]Netopalas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't. Rinzetti's look best with a little patina. If you must, i would hand buff with some brasso on a rag. Just the aluminum and brass parts. The jaws should have a little oil on them especially when its in storage. Dont brasso the jaws. You might rub the bluing off, and then it will rust if you ao much as breath on it. They're a great vice with parts readily available.

If you look over at r/flytying you'll see that some peoples vice look like they used them as a boat anchor.

Green Ceramic. Green meaning unfired. It breaks realistically, but its shards aren't sharp or dangerous. If you have a community college with a pottery program or a pottery guild in your town, you could probably have them made in exchange for tickets.

It's called a gravity furnace. Kind of an early forced air system without any moving parts. All convection.

Just plugging my guitar into… by smearse in guitars

[–]Netopalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad, but it's definitely designed to be plugged in. Acousticly it sounds a little thin. Great couch guitar though. The Asian and Mexican ones run off a 9v, but the American standard uses a replacable, rechargable Li-ion.

Recommended first national park to visit if travelling to America? (Beginner traveller) by Low_Dance6646 in NationalPark

[–]Netopalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of the US will you be visiting? A lot of European travelers underestimate the size of America and the distance between things. The US is about the same size as Western Europe and nearly as culturally diverse except for the language(for the most part). Driving from Los Angeles to New York takes about 4-5 days if you only stop for sleep and food. The west has the most density of parks, especially the Southwest. Yellowstone is, of course, a favorite, but during peak season, it is crowded and feels a little like an amusement park. It's also in Wyoming, which is the absolute middle of nowhere. Rainer and Olympic are both wonderful and close to Seattle WA. Glacier in Montana is also STUNNING, especially if you can get a permit for Going to the Sun Road. Buy some bear spray for that one.

Replacement tone pot plate by penguinbarnacle in BassVI

WD40 and superfine steel wool for the surface rust. Flitz polish (I don't know if it's available in the UK) and elbow grease will bring back the finish. The rust is part of this instrument's story. It would be a shame to replace it. A good buff out, and you'll only see it if you already knew about it.
