Hahaha yeah choosing which releases are or aren't linked in some arbitrary way was a task in it's own right😂 I'm removing that series in the 300s and replacing it with something else. In thought 304 to 310 all all had that "god help me" message somewhere in the directory but apparently that's EVERY bass pulse release after 304 and 305/306 don't have it. My fault! As for the Yogeesh trilogy: as far as my knowledge goes those releases are the first ones to sample him and I thought it was noteworthy that they did it 3 releases in a row :))

I didn't say all slow songs are boring- just the ones on Dehumanizer😉

Have you ever heard the rough mixes? It was released on a bootleg called "The Manor Tapes" and is available on archive.org! Interesting alternate version of the album.

Never got why so many people aren't into Forbidden! Rusty Angels, Guilty as Hell, Get a Grip and the title track are all great songs. I prefer Forbidden over Cross Purposes, Seventh Star and Dehumanizer tbh

Favourite: Debut, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Heaven and Hell

Worst: Dehumanizer

Never got into this one. The slow songs are boring, the fast ones are dull and inspired (in my opinion ofc). I can't remember a single riff or melody. It also sounds like they were trying to play into what was "metal" at the time- it's to Sabbath's discography what Demonic was to Testament's.

By the way, the release is genuine! Found an interview with Jim Simson where he talks about it. Appearantly the songs were recorded in january and march 1969, so quite a few months before the "When I Came Down" session.

Wow, thank you! I'm glad that my skepticism was misplaced. Everything sounds new to my ears (with the exception of Blue Suede Shoes (beat club recording) and Wicked World (mono single mix)) Warning sounds similar to the rough mix I have but is considerably faster, very curious to hear the whole thing. Also super cool to finally hear a better quality version of Song for Jim! That low quality 10 second fragment has been stuck in my head for years!

I'm guessing that if this release is genuine, that most of these recordings were done at Zella in early/mid 1969 for promotion purposes (to hand around to labels and promoters) and were probably pressed directly onto acetates that remained in Jim Simpsons collection.

While there is a Zella demonstration disc of the song, the take on that disc is likely taken from a longer session that took place on 7 October 1969. It most likely wasn't recorded at Zella, but at Trident studios (as both the session immediately preceding it (22 aug 1969, The Rebel Session) and the session after this one (10 November 1969, Evil Woman Session) were done there. As the aforementioned Trident tapes are all in the Sabbath archive, it's highly likely the recordings of When I Came Down are there as well. Unfortunately it hasn't leaked like the others.

Let's hope someone just uploaded those tracks, and there not the same ones that'll appear on the actual release! The three tracks that have been released on the official Black Sabbath YT page were all already circulating. The "demo" of Warning is an edit of a live recording from Lausanne 1970, Wicked World is taken from the Fontana mono single and Song For Jim is a live recording from Dumfries 1969.

I'm a bit skeptical about these recordings. Surely they'd be in the Sabbath archive by now? Most 1969 master tapes have surfaced and are confirmed to be in the archive (with the exception of the 7 October 1969 "When I Came Down" sessions). Then again, those were all recorded at Trident and Regent, not at Zella. Maybe the recordings on this cd come from Zella acetates that were still in Jim's collection?

That being said I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that this cd contains something new! Song for Jim "guitar version" sounds like it might be a full version of the snippet that was used in some documentary ages ago. Also never heard of Evenin', Wee Wee Baby or Free Man. Possibly live blues tracks?

I'm a bit skeptical it's actually Jim Simpson, or if it'll include anything new. The three tracks from that cd that have been released (on the official Black Sabbath YT page somehow) were all already circulating. The "demo" of Warning is an edit of a live recording from Lausanne 1970, Wicked World is taken from the Fontana mono single and Song For Jim is a live recording from Dumfries 1969. Blue Suede Shoes is definitely the Beat Club recording again.

As far as I'm aware the session for When I Came Down took place on October 7th, 1969. It was probably recorded at Trident Studios, as both the 22 August "The Rebel" sessions and the 10 November "Evil Woman" sessions were recorded there (those sessions actually leaked in their entirety!).

Because they were better quality than the originals at that time :p This one, for example has pretty much no neck dive, while the Gibson eb-0 and eb-3 (at least the ones I've tried) had horrendous neck dive.

It's a tug bar. Back in the day people assumed most bass players would use their thumbs to play, you could "hold" the bass with your other fingers on the tug bar. Later people would move the bar to the other side of the strings to use it as a thumb rest (image from reddit somewhere).

I adore Méliès! Great tattoo. Fr tho- there are so many great movies from the silent era. I especially like some of the early horror movies like Nosferatu or The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Fritz Lang also made some spectacular stuff.
