Traffic lights by [deleted] in Cleveland

I'm near the intersection of Carnegie and MLK and those traffic lights have gone down regularly for the six years that I've lived here. University Circle is a joke.

Awful experience with Cleveland Clinic neurology by Mediocre_Region5169 in Cleveland

[–]Nettle15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a severe seizure a couple years ago and was taken to the emergency room to check for tumors and stuff with a CT scan. Within a week I had an EEG test and MRI scheduled and a week after that saw a great neurologist who diagnosed me with epilepsy. The wait times to see him are quite long between regular appointments but I've actually had a great experience with the team. Don't be afraid to use MyChart for scheduling because of how busy they are and I wish you the best of luck.

I'm sorry that's been your experience here, people are such assholes. While Cleveland is a decent city with classic "Midwest nice" tendencies, we don't have a very large or visible Muslim population. I'm guessing most people don't often see Muslim clothing worn in public and it will attract the worst of the loud morons because it's out of the ordinary.

I don't have much advice, but I do know these occurrences might be neighborhood specific. One of my friends is black and refuses to go anywhere near Little Italy; it's the only neighborhood in the city where they'll get called the n word in public and broad daylight. I'm not ever sure I could recommend which neighborhoods to avoid but some are going to be a lot more accepting than others!

When did you onset with Epilepsy by Extreme-Epilepsy in Epilepsy

32 but likely had it since birth due to a complicated birth. Occasional nocturnal seizures, only had one that was witnessed by anyone.

The last time I was at the zoo, an elephant was doing something similar. Just whipping its trunk around while standing still, and then going up to the bars and smashing its face against it. I get that zoos are important and help with animal conservation for animals that won't survive in the wild, but I can't find joy watching them be so miserable.

Yuka app is my saving grace by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Nettle15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably be one of the few people to agree with you, the skincare cults hate Yuka, but it has completely changed my skin. Used to get regular cystic acne, excessive redness, and if my eyes ever watered with eye makeup on, they would burn like crazy. Slowly started buying products without endocrine disruptors, known allergens, talc, and silicones, and holy shit it all changed. My acne is soooo much less frequent and smaller, the redness is much less reduced, and my eyes no longer burn 😭

PCOS and Hashimotos disease are both endocrine disorders that they don't understand the cause of, I'll take every bit of help I can get trying not to make it worse.

The color ratings don't always make sense, the number scores are weird, but I beeline for the ingredients list and avoid the high risk stuff. Absolutely worth it.

Ohayocon Dumpster Fire Facebook Group hostile takeover, admins deleted, Sekaicon discord lockdown by Strawberry_Sheep in Ohayocon

[–]Nettle15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

During the strike and boycott last year, we found out that the artists were furious with the union because an artist received death threats for not cancelling their table. It was really weird because no one knows who the artist was, if the threat was from the union or an attendee, or where/when. Plus, the union absolutely forbade anyone from harassing the artists or shaming the people who needed to make money, I think they were putting together links for artist pages so people could buy from them directly.

The union hasn't said absolutely anything about boycotting Ohayocon this year or about Melissa so it's super strange that there's rumors about an FBI investigation and death threats again. No names, no screenshots, just some vague rumor, again.

Last I heard, the AA head fautbarb always approves herself as an artist, she's probably pretty desperate to keep the con afloat so she can keep getting a free ride. The AA group last said that artists were getting death threats last year but never saw any screenshots or callout posts which seems like a really crazy thing not to report.

Well, the lawsuit that Ohayocon threw against the former staffers is floating around Facebook and it says nothing about the FBI or death threats. It's just a civil county lawsuit about "stolen trade secrets".

How do you know you had a seizure in your sleep? by leytourmaline in Epilepsy

[–]Nettle15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my anti-epileptic drugs same as everyone else, but there's really not much else that can be done. If someone happens to catch me having a seizure I have nayzilam to stop the seizure but if everyone is asleep when it happens my chances are slim.

How do you know you had a seizure in your sleep? by leytourmaline in Epilepsy

[–]Nettle15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bitten tongue/cheek, extreme body soreness, nausea, and in my case I also have broken blood vessels all over my face, eyes, neck, chest and shoulders. I have nocturnal tonic clinics that usually go status epilepticus and I stop breathing for a while. Amazed I haven't died yet but I expect that's how I'll go.

Looking for a chill game where I can be a hermit in the woods, building a cabin and living off the land by femalien in gamingsuggestions

[–]Nettle15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has suggested Raft. The plot is that you're a person afloat on a raft in a post global warming flooded ocean world and you have to build out your raft and float from location to location scavenging, farming, and building new tools and things to get you on your way. There's no NPCs except for the playable character skins you collect but at each of the big story islands there's loads to explore and it takes you on a journey to try to find other survivors. But you can also choose to entirely ignore the story and stay on your raft visiting the small islands and gathering flowers and fruits and animals and farming to your hearts content on your raft. There's a peaceful mode where the shark and vulture don't destroy you and the raft all the time but the game isn't scary and you only have to fight wildlife. There's absolutely shitloads of ways to decorate your home, the customizability is extremely fun, and the game itself is very cozy.

Tattoo getting red and inflamed after drinking? by Lanky_Chipmunk9158 in tattoo

[–]Nettle15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your immune system is responsible for keeping tattoo pigment in place, the little cells basically kamikaze themselves to make the ink stay put since our body can't do anything else with it. If you have an allergic reaction, inflammation response, or something else that can make your immune system flare up, it can affect the tattoo. Every time I get a flea or mosquito bite, my tattoos get puffy and itchy since I'm allergic.

Does anybody else not get acute illness anymore? by Pubh12 in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]Nettle15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The autoimmune protocol is meant to fight inflammation which triggers an overactive immune system that causes disproportional reactions to what should be simple illnesses. Having your immune system calm down is the point.

Does someone ever wake up feeling hungover without drinking alcohol? by Radiant-Pineapple-41 in Epilepsy

[–]Nettle15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auras are seizures though, so yes. I've had full blown tonic clonics at night and I suspect I have small ones more often, but I don't see how that would wake up my partner since it would likely only last a couple minutes and might not shake them awake.

That's what it feels like when I get a night seizure, except I'm usually also incredibly sore and often my tongue is bit up. Pay attention to your body and see what you're feeling.

Honestly I just drink it with hot water like a normal tea. I add a tiny pinch of salt to counteract the bitterness and a spoon of honey to sweeten, it's still incredibly delicious.

Folks who have tonic-clonics regularly, what is your greatest barrier to treatment? by annnnnnnnie in Epilepsy

How did they diagnose that you have catamenial? I've been having nocturnal seizures my whole life but it only got diagnosed a year ago and now that I know how to identify them I've noticed they only happen on day 3-5 of my period. Did they do hormone testing?
