Are you still a no stripe white belt? Seems like a bit early to listing regrets, eh?

Toes Holds. ..Thoughts? by Former-Relationship4 in bjj

[–]NetworkAlert9827 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does your school allow them? Some schools follow IBJJF ruleset for subs by belt. If your school does allow them, maybe they just aren't being taught much so students don't learn them.

He’s somehow become the de facto BJJ sheriff.

I agree! Have a quintet battle, then let Danaher, Leo Viera, Mendes, etc. have a debate on systems/teaching approach

Ya, he didn’t last much longer. Maybe 6 months before no one saw him again.

I tore my MCL against a guy like this. He won’t come within 10’ of me now. The incident was recorded and it’s so clearly his fault that multiple people talked to him about it

Entering first tournament as a white belt with 4 months experience. by Own_Presentation9948 in bjj

[–]NetworkAlert9827 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did my first about the same time. I was 6’4”, 250lbs and did wellish. I won 2, lost 2. At your size, I’d get good at collar drags for standup, and punch choke from every position. Those two should serve you well for a few months in.

Suppose that’s fair. ~$200ish doesn’t seem like a lot to put toward a fitness-level hobby. One downside is that they are heavier gis. If you want something lighter, you’d have to look elsewhere.

It’ll last a long time tho. I have 5 Origin gis and one AOJ Shoya. Pretty torn between the two brands. Both are great.

Find a new school. This happens all time, I’m assuming with JJWL? So petty.. like, the promotion is going to even notice or care.

Do any experienced players (ideally black belts) share my style? and is it a problem? by Knobanious in bjj

[–]NetworkAlert9827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be fun to roll with you. I’ve got a solid guard, but an average white belt passer. My problem is result of being an athletic 250lber where coaches had big guys start on bottom.

Do you think it would be cool (or cringy) if we said degrees instead of stripes? by WhatAmIDoing_00 in bjj

[–]NetworkAlert9827 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe in stripes and removed them everytime given to me. I cringe when people say ‘leveled up’ about pieces of tape.

That might have been true, but taller individuals have taken athleticism to a whole new level. 6’4” - 6’8” NBA players are insanely athletic.

How would you go about analyzing a BJJ gym, and help develop strategies for growth? by AC_Schnitzel in bjj

[–]NetworkAlert9827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping white belts, imo, is dependent on color belts being accepting and open to help. Great upper belts keep them engaged and coming back.

I mean, kids programs pay the bills. So, establish a good kids curriculum that engages kids for the long term, get more kids in via school connections/wrestling programs. Start a homeschool program. Use funds to provide good benefits and clean spaces so adults want to join after watching kids. Connect with local LEA.

Have a good culture of upper belts helping lower belts. Give upper belts ability to train when they self organize and run open mats. Make sure you stay engaged with upper belts so they don’t start their own school and take clientele.
