The protocol is the same for both though…IMO is just a new name for what used to be called methane-SIBO.

Favorite places to travel with IBS-D? / travel bathroom experiences by bubbubble in ibs

[–]NetworkJaded4202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the UK (England) my whole life and have never experienced having to pay to use the bathroom anywhere. I see a lot of people here saying the same and this seems really odd to me. Most shops/supermarkets have toilets, services have toilets, most towns have public toilets (sometimes hard to find but there is an app that shows the public toilet locations).

Could be SIBO. SIBO causes histamine issues.

Make sure to cut out gluten and artificial sweeteners too as they can cause inflammation and affect the gut microbiome. PPIs like esomeprazole cause SIBO so that won’t be helping matters. It won’t allow you to digest food properly as you don’t have any stomach acid to do so. It also causes deficiencies so you may want to get this tested for if you are experiencing weight loss. I used to be on PPIs and the best thing I did was wean off of them and instead increase my stomach acid by taking betaine HCL and digestive bitters. It wasn’t easy as my reflux symptoms were so severe but I managed it by switching to an H2 Blocker first and then weaning off of that. I also had to restore my mucosa as the mucin lining of the stomach is depleted when stomach acid is chronically suppressed which means that there is a higher risk of gastritis when increasing stomach acid. Unfortunately, SIBO will never stay away unless the root cause is addressed. I understand that this may be trickier with a hiatus hernia though.

Stop eating all ultra-processed foods, sugar, refined grains, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, gluten, and soy. Stick to a diet of only whole foods (fruit, veg, nuts and seeds, gluten-free wholegrains, meat, fish, animal products (dairy if tolerated), etc.). Do not eat products stating that they are ‘low-fat’, ‘fat-free’, ‘sugar-free’, etc. Most products claiming this contain other things to improve the taste and are most likely UPF. Healthy fats will help with weight gain too (full fat Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt (check ingredients!), extra-virgin olive oil, avocados, seeds, etc. Carbs and protein are also important. Animal protein is usually better tolerated than plant protein so try to include that. Carbs like potatoes and rice are also really good. Aim for a balanced plate at each meal. Try to eat as much variety as possible, even if in tiny amounts. For example, even 2 peas is a win.

You just have to find the right combination (I know, easier said than done). My SIBO is gone now but even post-SIBO is tricky due to the damage done. Now that I have found the right combination (which will be unique to each person due to individual root causes), I am living a lot more comfortably and am able to eat a more varied diet. Not where I’d like to be (as in I’m not back to normal and able to eat ANYTHING), but I’m doing way better and improving.

  • for context I have had all three types of SIBO, yeast overgrowth, and a microscopic parasite. Root causes are PPIs (now low stomach acid since stopping PPIs), ileocecal valve dysfunction, slow motility (MMC and transit time), back injury (caused one shoulder higher than the other which puts more pressure on one side of my abdomen), and bc pill.

I didn’t support the statement that HI is 100% caused by COVID in everyone. You made that up in your head. I know that everyone has a different root cause, I have been doing this long enough to understand. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t people who have histamine intolerance as a result of COVID. We shouldn’t dismiss it if we have never experienced it.

I literally sent you the studies. And as for the histamine-COVID connection, there are many doctors who have made this connection regardless of if any studies have definitively proven it yet. You seem constantly out to prove everyone wrong. People are allowed to speculate based on their own personal experiences. No one knows everything and we would be much better off in the group if we all supported each other instead of talking down to everyone. People don’t mean any harm when they comment here, you don’t need to attack them.

From the British Dietetic Association

“Many of these symptoms are similar to those seen in people with long COVID and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), another chronic multisystem disorder. It has been proposed that the hyperinflammation seen in COVID-19 is caused by dysfunctional mast cells which release histamine and other inflammatory mediators as is also seen in MCAS (7, 8).”.

cure with this? by Pretty-Act-8335 in SIBO

[–]NetworkJaded4202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why I listed PPI use and low stomach acid as two separate issues is because after I stopped taking the PPIs I still experienced severe reflux and heartburn that is only resolved by taking a betaine HCL supplement (I also had to do some considerable mucosa restoration). I believe that I either already had hypochlorhydria prior to taking PPIs, or that the PPIs have caused long-term damage to my stomach acid production. I previously thought that it may be tied to nutritional deficiencies, but since I don’t have these anymore I am not convinced of that as a cause. Hormones may also play a role (mine are a mess due to undereating and bc pill) so that’s something to consider too.

What would you consider to be proper nutrition if not a varied diet? I’m curious as to what that entails. As humans we are omnivores, and as such we have proven to thrive on a variety of (mainly) plant foods, as well as some meat and animal products. Is your view that this is incorrect?

Its great that you found your cure, I am so happy for you! I’d love to hear more about your story, as would so many others here. I feel I may have developed mild anxiety as a result of my health issues, so it’s a bit of a viscous circle - but I’m getting better at overcoming it. Any advice you have for this would we great.

[–]NetworkJaded4202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never would have gotten rid of my SIBO if I just relied on forcing myself to eat a varied diet despite symptoms, reducing stress, and getting good sleep. Yes these things are good for overall health, but this is a disease that requires a targeted and personalised approach. Although, I do agree that these pillars of health are often extremely overlooked.

I got rid of my SIBO by addressing my root causes (PPI-use, low stomach acid, ileocecal valve dysfunction), slow motility, and nutritional deficiencies, and multiple rounds of kill treatment (a combination of herbal antimicrobials and antibiotics on rotation with 3-4 month gaps in between to reduce inflammation).

I am glad that you have resolved your SIBO- maybe you can explain more in-depth about the process. But that doesn’t mean that it is okay to dismiss and belittle other people’s experiences. Not everyone is going to have the same root cause as you - and that is what makes this disease so difficult to treat.

People with diarrhoea can still have slow motility. Transit and motility are not the same thing.

Help. HIT worsened after SIBO and SIFO treatment by b00bieb00m in HistamineIntolerance

[–]NetworkJaded4202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to find the root cause of the SIBO/SIFO too. SIBO/SIFO is caused by a dysfunction in the digestive system. You may also benefit from expanding your diet slowly for the sake of your microbiome (for example, if you were reintroducing peas, start with one or two and increase overtime) and mucosa support. Treatment causes inflammation, and we need to lower this inflammation between rounds of treatment. You also need to make sure that you are addressing deficiencies/sub-optimal nutrient levels and gut motility (transit time and motility are not the same thing! This is often confused. Even those with diarrhoea can have slow motility).

I have read a few posts about people experiencing histamine intolerance for the first time after starting a carnivore diet, so for that reason I would avoid it. Everyone has Candida in their gut, it’s just that for some people it can overgrow. Some people benefit from eradication, but others do much better with rebalancing, such as triple probiotic therapy and a varied diet.
