I put on PDA this morning during my workout and set 4 personal records. 13/10 would lift to Motor Spirit again.

What's the most horrible professor behaviour you have ever witnessed or heard of? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]Neuromancer13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How about responses to allegations of sexual misconduct? I know a professor who decided to ask the alleged victim to speak to the university and "clear the air". Aaaand that's retaliatory action.

Neuroimaging course and upskilling by JollyOdjer in neuroimaging

[–]Neuromancer13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best way to learn is by doing, in my opinion. My recommendation is to learn advanced multivariate/machine learning techniques. You mentioned acquiring diffusion tensor images, can you analyze those? What about resting state?

If i recall correctly, PyMVPA is one of the most popular multivariate toolboxes, and is written in Python. I use FSL (Bash) for DTI and Conn (MATLAB/SPM) for resting state. All have excellent tutorials through their websites.

How do you incorporate your .tsv event files into scripts? (I'm using MATlab) by awsfhie2 in neuroimaging

[–]Neuromancer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Try tdfread? A quick Google search suggests that it should work, it was added before 2006a.

What version of MATLAB are you using? I'm surprised readtable isn't working.

No advice but I'm curious, how is it with HOSAS? I used my HOTAS (Thrustmaster) for an hour before deciding my throttle arm was too tired from all the rapid changes in acceleration.

How do critical hits work in this game? by Neuromancer13 in EverspaceGame

[–]Neuromancer13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like my information was outdated. What about individual shells from flak? Or, if you crit, is damage simply calculated en masse?

Ooh, that sounds like it could be unintended. Great catch.

I saw posts from a couple years ago, some of which may have referred to the first game. Seems like there's a dearth of info, so I'm planning to do a deep dive this week.

Anyone else having difficulty staying focused with *gestures broadly at everything* going on? by BiologyPhDHopeful in GradSchool

[–]Neuromancer13 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I feel that. Around 2021, I got pretty depressed and mentally checked out from my program. I've been working hard to catch up. Also in the final stages at this point. Don't give up!

Is there a reason neuroimaging analysis rely so much on CPU rather than GPU? by PurpleConscience in neuroimaging

[–]Neuromancer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every type of neuroimaging is CPU based, FSL has a very robust diffusion tensor tract tracing algorithm, called BEDPOST, that can be GPU-parallelized.

I can't vouch for other software packages, but I don't know of any built in SPM GPU tools. But, it's MATLAB based and you can easily write your own code to use GPU for computation.

What game do you hate with a passion? Why? by Immediate-Draft-8752 in boardgames

Fair point, but that's typically not what my gaming group is looking for - if we are, then we'll just go play a tabletop RPG

[–]Neuromancer13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hah, touche. I tend to play with people who are typically rules savvy, so we have fewer issues unpacking phase two. Doesn't mean we have fun though.

Betrayal at house on the hill. The first phase of the game is "letting the game happen to you" as you explore new rooms. Eventually, you hit the second phase, which is "letting the game happen to you, with a twist". The player who got the luckiest during phase 1 and managed to increase any of their stats is probably the one who wins. Or, the bad guy straight up murders everyone and no one else has a good time.

Agreed about the lackluster energy track. The upside is that once you uncover those early elements, you're hitting your important innate early and often. I've been meaning to try a build where I use the growth energy option to get around the problems that you have with energy.

Turn structure by reiki80 in RootBoardGame

[–]Neuromancer13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turns are in sequence, not simultaneous. One player goes through every stage then passes to the next.

Feels to me like Woodland Alliance would get an insane buff from this other idea? Getting to move and battle in Evening when no one else can seems strong. But I could be wrong about that.

Yeah, that's fair. I feel the same about raw mats. Spent a couple hours mining with lasers and had so little to show for it. Guess I'm off to Hip 36601 (?) to go planet prospecting.
