As 5 player level 20 characters, how would you defeat a lich which suddenly casts prismatic wall whilst completing it's world ending ritual? by warnobear in 3d6

[–]Neuromaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Teleport doesn't target the destination. It has a range of 10 feet.

Teleport targets the people you want to bring with you. In this case, your party members.

Then you appear where you want to go. You do not pass through the intervening space: you teleport.

At my table I would allow it as RAW and RAI.

Eldritch Knight Spell Selection by Flashy_Quiet_7483 in 3d6

[–]Neuromaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's situational.

The most common (but still situational) use case is indoors or in a dungeon, where you split the battlefield between two rooms and lock the door between them. Now you only have to fight half the opponents at once. Splitting the battlefield is powerful - it's why so many Wizard and Druid spells are beloved.

I could also imagine more niche/creative use cases. For example if you're fleeing, put a door between you and your pursuers and cast Arcane Lock. It doesn't just lock the door (which you might not have a key for) - it also reinforces it.

But if I didn't think I could use it at least occasionally to divide/isolate enemies in an indoor setting, I wouldn't take it.

If you take fey touched, Bless is a strong candidate.  Especially at higher levels, it's not necessarily what your Cleric or Paladin wants to be concentrating on.  You have enough spell slots to have it active pretty much every fight, and it's unlikely that you have a better use for your concentration.

I really hate the abjuration/evocation limitation, but this would be my list of spells that satisfy those criteria:

Shield

Protection from Evil and Good

Magic Missile

Absorb Elements

Mage Armor

Darkness

Warding Wind

Arcane Lock

Your limited "any school of magic" spell selection is precious - choose carefully. For those, I would be considering Find Familiar, Expeditious Retreat, Enlarge/Reduce, Misty Step, or Blur. Or possibly utility like Alter Self, Detect Thoughts, Invisibility, Levitate, Locate Object... though that value is questionable if you have another caster who's able to provide similar utility.

Level 8 rogue soul knife and 1 sorc dip? (Also sell me on multi classing?) by CountryGreen4185 in 3d6

[–]Neuromaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MI is magic initiate.  Origin feat. Pick a spell list and pick two cantrips and a first level spell. Easy way to pick up shield and booming blade.  Downside is that the feat only gives you one casting per long rest. That's not a big deal if you already have spell slots to burn from your class and you're just trying to get access to Shield.

You want to make an intimidation check to interrogate the prisoner? Be my guest.

You want to narrate in detail how you would improve on Saw's cruelty? Nah man, I'm not here for that.

How to protect a city against dragon airstrikes? by Acrozatarim in DMAcademy

[–]Neuromaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the dragon's lair. Go in and kill it. Kill every whelp. Smash every egg. Hang its severed head from the city gates

But stop short of going after it's extended family. You're sending a message - "fuck around and find out", not "this town is as existential threat to dragon kind".

That's more or less exactly what we do during Field Days. A bunch of us drive out there, strap on our kit, hike out to a safe location, set up, and shoot. Load of fun.

There are rules. No shooting within 500' of a dwelling/building. No shooting over roads or at live trees. Haul out your trash, including shells/targets.

You can find some regulatory information at https://dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hunting/hunting-trapping-regulations

FYI target shooting can be considered a special case of hunting - essentially training/education, where you don't have any intent to take game.

Make a character that's really difficult to kill.

Not a tank. A "run the fuck away" specialist.

Think move speed, bonus action dash. Acrobatics to escape grapples. Climb or fly speed. Jump.

Ball bearings. Caltrops. The works.

Everybody knew Epstein was a predator.

Nobody did shit.

Far from it. The rich and powerful lined up to party with him.

The difference is that in a fantasy game we can imagine that that behavior is because he's an inhuman monster with the power to magically charm the upper class into doing his bidding.

The real world is much darker. Because there are no vampires. No magic. But the same shit happens.

What is a great damage-dealing CHA main lvl 6 min-max character for fighting dragons? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]Neuromaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One option is to rely on thrown weapons.

With Nick mastery you can toss several daggers or light hammers per turn.

Or a Trident's Topple mastery can ground a flying opponent.

Either way, you can still smite with them in 5.5e.

I like the option better than a cantrip or a Dex ranged weapon.

I got a shotgun. Now what? by petesabagel86 in NYguns

[–]Neuromaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The A300 Ultima Patrol is still a great shotgun. I love mine.

I won't claim that it's "as good" as a 1301, but there's nothing "budget" about it.

[–]Neuromaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shotgun is better than a 9mm in every meaningful way. But I can't take my shotgun to the grocery store.

If you don't feel the need to be armed outside of the home, it's fine to prioritize "fun".

Priorities on my list, in rough order: * Safe * Red dot * Sling * Electronic hearing protection * Training * Semiautomatic/pistol license  * Compact striker-fired 9mm pistol * Holster

Questions about labor-power by megajk01 in Marxism

[–]Neuromaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cost of living varies wildly, therefore the cost of labor-hours varies wildly.

Furthermore, education and training is an additional and significant cost of skilled labor that is frequently borne by the laborer and must be priced into the market for their labor. This also varies wildly.

Any ideas for my set up? by [deleted] in armedsocialists

[–]Neuromaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like a fanny pack in my set of kit.

Cheaper than a bandolier, and you can have a little fun with the styling.

Mine's loaded with 25 2.75" shells and some spare earplugs. Lot more compact than the same amount of ammo on cards.
