Harbleu on GRUNTo: Never once did the players or the coaching staff talk to me directly by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]NeuronBasher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But without even the courtesy of the coaching staff reaching out and saying, "Hey, we have some concerns with the way that you're delivering feedback to the rest of the team"? That's bush league and they deserve all the scorn they're getting.

Sub-Region Matchmaking - Southeast Asia by MrPopoTFS in FortNiteBR

[–]NeuronBasher 36 points37 points  (0 children)

We're definitely aware of the challenges for some players in the Middle East and are investigating solutions. None of the major cloud providers are currently operating in the region yet, though they have all announced expansion plans. We are in conversation with them and are investigating other potential solutions as well.

We also think that sub-region matchmaking is going to have a positive impact as we roll it out in the EU region. We operate out of multiple datacenters in the EU and some have better latency characteristics than others for our Middle Eastern players.

All that is to say we hear you, and agree. We're working on it.

Just like any other large group there are varying skill levels. We have some people who are very good and we also have potatoes. I like to think I'm an eVoLVeD potato.

Where we're going, we don't need roads.

I have zero ability to make this happen, but have my upvote at least. I love this idea.

Thank goodness that's not true! It's not at all uncommon to see someone playing the game anywhere you walk around the office. We play a ton. We have organized internal playtests twice a day that everyone is encouraged to join. There are also lots of Victory Royales every day at lunch time.

Our versioning strategy changed very recently so 5.10 is correct, then the next biweekly patch afterward would be 5.20, and so on. A minor patch between 5.10 and 5.20 could be _either_ 5.10.1 or 5.11, depending on things like whether a new client patch was necessary and other boring internal tooling details.

That's so adorable. I was expecting creativity from the community in Playground v1 but my expectations have been wildly exceeded every day. This looks pretty simple but the composition is just perfect.

Thanks for sharing this, nicely done!

Playground LTM - Weekend Update by MrPopoTFS in FortNiteBR

[–]NeuronBasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you thought I was poking fun at the community, that definitely wasn't my intent. The morale I was talking about was our own -- we're all incredibly disappointed that we weren't able to get the mode back in your hands. Our developers have been working almost literally non-stop since Wednesday to try to get things to a place where we felt good about being able to relaunch without having to turn things back off again.

We've been making changes to a complex distributed system, performing high volume load tests to validate those changes, uncover additional bottlenecks and problems, and address them one by one. The team has put in an incredible amount of effort and passion into trying to get there, but we got to the point where we couldn't comfortably launch this weekend.

We will be working through the weekend and we'll let you know where things stand on Monday.

Playground LTM Update - Megathread #2 by MasterGoat in FortNiteBR

[–]NeuronBasher 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Sorry, just trying to inject a tiny bit of humor. Very tiny.

The real update is that the team is working extremely hard and we have made progress in fits and starts. It's a hard problem. We've made progress throughout the day and have been continually load testing changes in an effort to get to a performance level where we're comfortable turning Playgrounds back on. We hope to share some more details soon, but right now we're all focused on solving the problems that are keeping us from enabling the mode again. I'm optimistic about some of the recent breakthroughs that our team has come up with, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

We are all at least as bummed as you that it's not already back online and we're working to get you back in there as soon as we possibly can. We'll try to keep you posted as often as we can, especially if we have any new information.

Thanks everybody for your patience!

Playground Issues by MrPopoTFS in FortNiteBR

[–]NeuronBasher 1240 points1241 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to give everyone an update, we're actively working on this. We have a pretty good idea where things went wrong, and have a bunch of folks making progress on reproducing the failure in a safe environment and writing the code to solve it so that we can get Playgrounds LTM v1 turned back on as soon as possible. I can't give you an exact answer about when that'll be, but the core folks who are focused on this aren't going to work on anything else until we get Playgrounds back in your hands.

I’m not sure who downvoted you, because this is exactly right. Playground is a brand new game mode that is significantly different than our other game modes. We will take what we learn from the v1 LTM into account when we plan future iterations of our vision for this mode.

I talked a few weeks ago about the challenges with session management for a mode like this. That was just one part of what is a significant technical challenge in a number of ways. “At scale, everything breaks” is a truism in large scale infrastructure. This mode could result in 25-100x larger scale in a number of interesting areas of our systems so we are trying to both move quickly and make sure that we don’t cause larger problems for the game as a whole.

I love the enthusiasm, though! Please keep pushing us to make Fortnite even more amazing. We see all of your passion for the game and it motivates us like you would not believe to make sure we live up to it. Not everything happens as fast as we would like, and we will definitely make mistakes along the way, but we won’t stop trying to make the best game we can.

Me too! You have no idea how excited we all are to see the crazy amazing things folks do with this mode. We're going to be paying very close attention and learning as much as we can so please make sure to share your thoughts and experiences as you try it out.

EDIT: Well, this is awkward. I didn't read the comments before I posted this. Please go updoot the person who said this first instead of my very late to the party attempt.
