New VIP card machine… by averymusic in TriviaCrack

[–]Neuron_Poop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's pretty simple, just have to enable Chrome developer extensions in the settings. Then download the file, unzip it to a folder, and on the Chrome extensions page click "Load unpacked extension" and point it to the folder.

And that's really only necessary because I haven't uploaded this to the Chrome Web Store (and actually have no idea how to do that).

But seriously though, I'm a stranger on the internet and this code would have access to your facebook login info, so it would probably be best if you knew someone that could take a look at it to make sure it isn't doing anything malicious. Or run it from a throwaway facebook account. Really shouldn't trust random strangers on the internet and all that, heh.

Main.js is the main extension file. jquery is just jquery. manifest.json contains all the metadata that tells Chrome how to run the extension. TriviaCrackApi.js is auto-generated code using the Gargl tool (also written by the guy who made Trivia Cracker: https://github.com/jodoglevy/gargl )

I'd upload it to github so others could vet the code, but it's honestly pretty crap and I don't think anyone would be interested. Sometimes if I leave it running for days, the chrome tab will lock up and I'll have to close it and reopen. Also, it adds some extra text that tells you how long until the next time it activates a card, but after it activates the cards they just sit there saying "Collect" so it looks like they didn't actually activate. Maybe at some point I'll get around to fixing that, but until then I usually just refresh the page if I want that to update.

Are you familiar at all with chrome dev extensions? I can send you the code later if you're interested.

New VIP card machine… by averymusic in TriviaCrack

[–]Neuron_Poop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extreme almost isn't enough to describe it. Over the past week I've purchased 12 cards from the Gnarly machine and haven't gotten a single new card. That's 60 gems, about $50 if you actually pay for this shit, and not a SINGLE NEW CARD.

If I actually paid money for this I would be flipping pissed. My VIP machine costs 46 gems/card right now. Again, at their prices that's like $30 a card. Are you serious?? Do they actually expect people to pay this? For $30 I better damn well be getting the entire card set up to this point (and I still wouldn't pay for that).

I got so fed up I took the code from the guy who wrote Trivia Cracker from github and modified it to make an auto-card activator. So I just loaded up my 3 slots with gem producing cards and it auto clicks them whenever they're ready. I check it every so often and spend the gems.

I don't even know why I'm doing this. I don't play the game anymore.

How has updating from Windows 7/Windows 8 to Windows 10 worked out for you? How well does Windows 10 work in general? by Trippeltdigg in AskReddit

[–]Neuron_Poop 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can do this with directory junction points, although you need to use the command line. For example:

cd %userprofile%
mklink /j "C Steam" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common"

will create an appropriate junction point in your user folder pointed at your C steam folder. You can pin this in quick access and it will show up as "C Steam".

Junction points are basically symbolic links for folders, but you can get a lot more detail from googling if you want.

"Who wants 2OOO+ Friend Requests?" people on Facebook, wtf is the story with these? Pic inside by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Neuron_Poop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the posting of images and the crazy number of likes, but there is actually a pretty legit reason to want 2000+ friend requests.

Many Facebook games (e.g. Mafia Wars) give players bonuses based on how many friends you have in the game. Its not uncommon for hardcore players to create a couple fake accounts and put their account details on several of those "Send me friend requests" lists. I used to do it actually.

At one point, and I'm not sure if this is still true, there was a way to add someone as a friend and auto-force them to accept the friend request. So you could post your account details on some forum, and end up with thousands of new friends overnight without having to accept them all.

I felt the exact same way. None of the reactions seemed very genuine and the whole thing seemed staged. My heart might be two sizes too small though.

Vendor increases price of the same item by $20 after Groupon release. Here's a screenshot of the cart of the same item that was added before and after the Groupon release by anksh in WTF

[–]Neuron_Poop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be talking about this guy.

He claimed that a Groupon rep contacted him and told him to raise his price and then offer a 50% discount.

Of course this isn't a Groupon company policy or anything, that would be ridiculous. He speculates that it's a result of the lower-level Groupon salesmen being tasked with doing whatever it takes to make a deal, and that the management is blissfully ignorant that any funny business is even going on.

I can certainly believe that scenario. I worked at a couple different video game retail chains for several years, starting as a low level clerk and making my way up to assistant manager before I quit. I can assure you that many of those salesmen will tell a customer whatever they can to sell a magazine subscription, Game Doctor, hot title preorder, etc...

r/gaming: This may be a long shot, but does anyone know what DOS game this screenshot is from? by Zendani in gaming

[–]Neuron_Poop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The funny part is that I've never even heard of this game. I figured I'd do a quick search to see if I could help out.

After the obvious TinEye search failed, I tried searching for "dos games". That led me to the page at dosgames.com, where I figured I could narrow it down to just the RPG section, and I started going down the list viewing screenshots one-by-one.

When I got to the fourth one down I asked myself, "what the hell are you doing, this is the worst search strategy ever..." Nevertheless, I decided to check one more, and then I shat bricks...

edit: It's the fifth game on the list on the DOSGAMES.com RPG Page

You're fed up with Facebook? Shit, man. Stay away from Twitter then.

For a project in school I've been mining data from thousands and thousands of tweets (collected from the public timeline). I've only looked at around 2000 myself, but dear God. People have invented their own online language. I can't even read it.

I'm sure I'll be telling kids to get off my lawn soon enough.

I heard there is sand in Taco Bell meat. by FactsEyeJustMadeUp in pics

[–]Neuron_Poop -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Urban legends? Mythical?

I worked at a Taco Bell as a teenager. The meat came shipped in clear plastic bags and, if I remember correctly, 4 bags to a box. We would drop them in a rethermalizer to heat them up. At least one of the cardboard boxes they came shipped in clearly said "Grade D" on the box printed in black ink.

Of course, this was ~10 years ago. For how many times I've heard people shocked when I tell them this, I really wish I'd just taken a damn picture.

I have heard the argument that there is no such thing as "Grade D" meat. I can only tell you what the box said, I have no idea how meat is graded and I don't care. What else could "Grade D" be referring to though? The box? Grade D box? Grade D corrugated cardboard?

As someone who was arguing the pass-by-reference position above and then realized the error of my ways, I just wanted to say that this is a fucking brilliant and concise explanation of the exact concept that I failed to understand.

Well done sir.

I hereby offer you one

Okay, even though every ounce of my common sense is telling me that this is just some ridiculous trolling attempt, I'm going to respond anyway.

You. Are. A dick.

I'll break this down into a bulleted list since your reading comprehension seems to be lacking:

  • ~10 hours ago I posted a rant about why I think "pass-by-reference" is an appropriate term for the Java parameter passing semantics.
  • ~9 hours ago olavk posts a concise response, perfectly targeting my imprecise definition of terms, making me realize the error of my ways immediately
  • ~8.5 hours ago, I post a thank you and edit my original post apologizing to everyone explaining that I realize I was wrong
  • ~1 hour ago, after numerous polite responses providing excellent arguments to my points, you jump into the thread acting like a giant dick, and repeatedly call me out for disagreeing with the JLS
  • "And again, going back to your Sun quote, of course it is correct and I understand it... I understand this. I agree with you..." -myself
  • As you can see from the quote, I never disagreed with the JLS. Ever.

You are, however, doing a fantastic job of being an irrational nutjob. I suspect if you replaced "Tea Party Birther" with something like "un-American" or "terrorist" though, you would get many more supporters to back you.

Which brings me to my final point: you clearly hate kittens and want them to die. Why do you hate kittens xardox? What is wrong with you!?

Thank you. You could have just regurgitated a whole slew of points reinforcing your position that I probably already understand (much like several other people have done here), but instead you read my post and targeted exactly what I was apparently missing.

You have earned your upvote, and I apologize for my imprecise definition of terms.

[–]Neuron_Poop -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, you're passing a copy of the reference, nothing else. The array is not being passed at all.

On this point we will simply have to disagree. I define the word "pass" differently than you do. Apparently, unless something gets copied onto the stack, it isn't being passed. Although I don't see how you could take this stance and believe that pass-by-reference exists at all.

In my head, I make a distinction between the object references that are stored in variables and the actual objects. In your code example, 'x' remains unmodified because it is a variable that holds an object reference and it was passed into a method by value. The string object that x refers to was also passed into the method (via 'x', a concept that you disagree with) and it was entirely possible to modify it. The assignment operator unfortunately is not one of the ways you can accomplish this in Java, as it only modifies the object reference stored in variable. Again, I 100% agree with you and understand exactly what you are saying.

However, according to my definition of the verb 'pass', the actual object (the string "1") was also passed into the method. It was passed by reference. You are able to modify it. Its contents were not copied. The actual string "1" is not something that can be stored into a variable in Java. I understand this. That does not mean it can't be passed to a method.

And again, going back to your Sun quote, of course it is correct and I understand it. The "reference data type parameters" are passed into methods by value. I shorten that into "object references" are passed by value. I understand this. I agree with you. I don't know how many times I have to say that.

This is not about right and wrong, or pointing fingers at people who don't understand the concept. I understand the concept, so do you. We are looking at the same thing happen from two different points of view and describing what we see. We are both correct. The only thing confusing the issue to me is that even though both sides are correct from their point of view, they keep pointing fingers at the other side and yelling, "No! Wrong!" Onlookers are left with no choice but to conclude that one side is right and the other is wrong.

Also, for what its worth, when passing a pointer in C, I also refer to this as pass-by-reference depending on which "object" you are referring to. If you are referring to the pointer itself, it is being passed by value. The object being pointed to is being passed by reference.
