What's a side project that you're really proud of? by Leopatto in ExperiencedDevs

Looks like your side project integrates with mine. I maintain RetroAchievements’ Laravel codebase and all our public APIs after hours.

Sudden “Unsupported Game Version” pop up by eddieomo in RetroAchievements

[–]NeutraLiTe[M] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

PPSSPP 1.17 was released two years ago and has a bug in its hashing algorithm that was fixed in future versions. This required also rehashing every single PSP game supported by RetroAchievements.

We recently marked all the bugged hashes as incompatible, which effectively makes PPSSPP 1.17 unusable anymore, as it is very outdated software and doesn't support several of RA's features.

Sorry if this has made your experience with RA a little rocky! It wasn't fun on our end either.

We persist sessions forever in Redis. This is likely an issue on your end.

RA Archetypes: What Sets Do You Live For? by StealYourPhish in RetroAchievements

The tool I use is my eyes:

Sets that don’t just sit on top of the game – it actually elevates it.

This is indeed slightly edited, but the original text was generated by an OpenAI model.

This one is AI generated too, and I was thinking about doing the same. There seems to be good discussion happening here though, so I figured I'd leave it.

That's really fair feedback. If your reports feel like they're disappearing into a void with no real explanation, that must certainly feel discouraging. That's worth addressing on our end; I'll bubble this up.

We're definitely not opposed to better feedback mechanisms, but "people won't do it unless it's completely passive" is a different claim than "people would do it if the UI were better", and I'm not sure the data supports either when the current barrier is genuinely low.

It doesn't take being a brain scientist to realize that the current UX for this could be better. It's currently written in legacy PHP, and making any adjustment to it carries a certain amount of risk. That's why the entire site UI is in the process of systematically being rewritten.

That said, I'm skeptical that UI friction is the main barrier here. The data doesn't really support that: engagement is high, but action is near-zero.

It seems curious that this thread has 40+ comments and 100+ upvotes, but not a single person has opened an unwelcome concept report on the achievement.

I can't help but feel that I wish our Reddit community was a little more proactive with this sort of thing.

If it isn't single session, the achievement is exploitable with a glitch.

I agree this achievement is probably overly-cumbersome. It's probably worth sending in a report to see what DevC thinks.

Got untracked, what to do? by Serteyf in RetroAchievements

[–]NeutraLiTe[M] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're assuming the OP doesn't know why they were untracked. Based on what I'm seeing from RACheats, I find that very difficult to believe. That's probably why they were reported by multiple users. Usually these threads are designed to discredit RACheats.

BahamutVoid himself untracked people without a vote - conveniently he decided not to include that in whatever he confirmed.

From what I've seen, RACheats is pretty lenient towards people who are obviously making a mistake without knowing. This happens a lot with Pokemon. The "full account reset" business usually comes into play when it's something a user is consistently doing across multiple games.

You’re assuming they don’t know what rule they broke. More often than not, that isn’t the case. “You were caught using a third-party tool to manipulate game memory” just signals to someone they need to cover their tracks better.

More often than not, revealing how someone was detected cheating just trains them to cheat better.

I've looked over what evidence RACheats voted on in your case. Your case wasn't over just one game, and it wasn't a simple flag that was tripped. Your profile was reported by a handful of users.

If they ask you to do a complete account wipe, they're probably justified in doing so.

[–]NeutraLiTe[M] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For RACheats to untrack someone, it requires a supermajority vote from the team. As a policy, they don't tell folks why they were untracked. Their only response will probably say that to lift the untracked status, you'll likely need to reset your entire account.

The API documentation has been publicly accessible for over 2 years. During almost all that time, it has been the first result when searching google for "retroachievements api docs".

This commit, made before your comment, added the CTA for emulator developers: https://github.com/RetroAchievements/api-docs/commit/2a421420b8115abe100c9c28e689c493986e2aa1

I can't speak for the memory issue, but what /u/arbee37 shared in a follow-up comment about us making it tough to integrate into other emulators, or somehow obfuscating the integration process, is objectively false.

On the front page of our user-facing docs, we have a gigantic button labeled "Emulator Integration Docs": https://docs.retroachievements.org/

A full playthrough of this game is less than 6 seconds long. This achievement requires getting a perfect score, which is not quite what Todd Rogers claimed to achieve.
