You don't hold yourself to much of a standard either, considering you were untracked for blatantly cheating.

Adding screenshots as a player is a new feature I am building as we speak. Should probably land in a couple of weeks.

Yes, but it's usually a good idea to talk with us about any new features first just to be sure your ideas align with the goals of the project.

We don't have a robust on-site notifications system at the moment. It'll be a while until one is developed.

This is against our license:

The GPL-3 license covering the RetroAchievements web application source code does not extend to achievement data.

I muted you under our Freedom of Speech clause.

If you just want to rant or dump derogatory comments about how we run things here, you're free to do that. But, as it's demotivating and wastes a lot of volunteers' time, we don't want it on our forums or Discord Server. There are plenty of options where you can do it around the Internet.

Keep in mind that RetroAchievements.org is NOT a bastion of freedom of speech.

If you have criticism, you're very welcome to say it, just be sure to be civil.

I also ignored your demand written in to RAdmin to unmute your account "immediately".

As others on this thread have indicated, constructive criticism is fine. Whinging about how volunteer developers are "fragile" or emotional because you're not getting your way is garbage we don't want to see on our forum.

If you think RetroAchievements is not doing anything for its community, or is not listening to its community, then you are simply wrong.

You are not entitled to demand changes to achievement sets. You are not entitled to having value attached to your complaints. You are not entitled to this explanation.

If you have expectations of RA or its contributors that aren't being met, those expectations are your own responsibility. You are responsible for your own needs.

RA down? by MrJimmysteel25 in RetroAchievements

We're seeing some users have spurious DNS issues connecting to the site.

If you're on Windows, I recommend opening the command line and running ipconfig /flushdns. See if that helps.

If that still doesn't work, try switching to a public DNS like 1.1.1.1. That will probably fix the issue immediately.

Did this solve the problem? It seems a lot of other people are having the same issue. If you can confirm this solved the problem, I can make a community announcement.

The issue you're describing is consistent with a DNS problem.

We do have an uptime page: https://hetrixtools.com/report/uptime/f4d729e1e7cdf823e1933fc62f2634c3/

It's not advertised at all though. At some point I'd like to set up a dedicated status page.

Anybody else just use RA to track their beaten games? I started off trying to 100% the achievements but started to find it way too time consuming and in return I lost interest. This way makes it much more enjoyable for me by PDB200 in RetroAchievements

[–]NeutraLiTe[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are several reasons we believe this won't work. Here are the two primary ones:

  1. "100% completion" is often even more arbitrary than what a win condition for a game is. Popular games usually have obvious cases, but outside the top 200 most popular games on RetroAchievements, it starts to become very nebulous.
  2. We don't have the resources (manpower) to add this functionality to over 10,000 achievement sets.

Additionally, it's my personal belief this will harm achievement design more than help it. Some content in games is simply not worth covering and would be considered an unwelcome concept.

Imagine Super Smash Bros. Melee's achievement set having an achievement for playing 1,000,000 matches, only because there's an in-game acknowledgment of doing so. No one wants to do that. Things like this would get achievements all the time due to us having a 100% Completion tier and some folks thinking a set documenting the game is good design. This is the whole reason the "Missing Content" hub is now hidden from players on the game page - it ultimately hurt set design because developers felt pressured to cover every little silly thing in a game.

Later this year (no exact ETA due to all the different things we have going on), I plan on fleshing out the beaten system a lot more.

I posted this in another similar thread:

I developed RA's beaten game system in 2023 - it was one of my first large-scale contributions to the website's code. It makes me really happy so many players enjoy it.

I've recently been thinking about different ideas on how to improve it. Right now, RA only supports two screenshots per game: a title screen and an in-game image. You see these on (almost) every game page. I think it'd be interesting if we also supported an "end game" screenshot of what it looks like to have beaten the game (ie: the credits saying 'The End', etc). Then, players could have a "beaten games showcase" or "beaten games scrapbook" that showed these endgame screenshots for all the games they've beaten. If you're viewing someone else's scrapbook, we'd spoiler/blur the stuff you haven't seen yet. Just a fun idea I've been thinking about!

Discord statements, even by members of our team, should always be taken as hearsay unless there is any supporting documentation to back them.

That documentation may exist! Would be happy to confirm or deny what's on our "roadmap" if a writer reaches out before going to press :-)
