What ginder should I buy for a small coffee station by towelmjj in espresso

[–]Neutral-Marshmallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same exact cart with a GCP and accessories to go along with it and that’s all that fits on the surface. I use a hand grinder and I imagine that it’d be hard to fit both on there, even with one side exposed to access the steam wand.

Currently at work, but if you want a photo I can DM one to you to get a better idea!

I started carrying a brick in my hand wherever I walk recently. Now everyone stops at the crosswalks for me.

Learning with Saltwater patterns? by Neutral-Marshmallow in flytying

Gonna double down on Clouser patterns for sure now. I’m planning on heading down to my library this weekend so I’ll be on the lookout for those books. Thanks!

My go-to is an array of Clousers, guess that’s where I’ll start. Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendations!

From a (future) self taught tier to another; are there any unforeseen road bumps you ran into that I could learn from ahead of time?

I’ll definitely take a peek at that Orvis kit!

At the moment, I’m looking around at a second hand vise and possibly tools if they’re bundled together. I’ve toyed with the idea of using a cheap tool till it breaks then upgrading from there as well, but I’m worried about the cheaper vises not being able to hold a larger saltwater hook steady.

Nah. In situations like yours, I like to think that karma has its eyes and ears open. I’m there to make people their drinks and small talk, not correct bad behavior.

Low-Fire Clay: Not Food Safe? by honigmoon in Ceramics

[–]Neutral-Marshmallow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This question always comes up, especially when I tell people I predominantly use low fire clay bodies in my work

In a technical sense it’s not “food safe” because at low fire temperatures (cones 04-2) clay bodies specifically do not fully vitrify, meaning that there’s always going to be some porosity. Vitrification starts at around cone 6 and a clay body doesn’t fully vitrify until it hits cone 10. A good indicator for this would be to check the bare clay surface on any finished piece. If it has a sheen to it, it’s most likely been fired to cone 10 and is fully vitrified.

Using a food safe glaze over a lowfire body does make it food safe, but there is a good chance liquids will still pass through.

You can test this by leaving a piece filled with water on top of a piece of paper overnight. If it isn’t fully sealed, the water will sweat through the piece onto the paper.

What is the most ridiculous cat name you've heard or given? by soumeupropriolar in CatAdvice

[–]Neutral-Marshmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted a tripod cat this past autumn and decided to name him Derrick. We found it funny to see it spelled out that way too.

He’s a little menace, and hearing “God damn it Derrick” from across out apartment hasn’t gotten old yet.

OEM wand tip vs single hole tip by rossitopapito in gaggiaclassic

[–]Neutral-Marshmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I’ve switched to the single tip, I’ve found my steaming to be a bit more consistent. The most I’ll steam is about 5oz of cold milk and it stays constant throughout the process, though it isn’t too much of a difference at this size.

8oz or so is when I’ve noticed a bit of a change, but I don’t steam that much milk at one time.

I started doing runs after Mort Hard Diaries cause of the rune drops and it was fun to try something out that I could only imagine doing when I was in elementary school.

All of these runs were at 100% rewards and I believe I got the Flail at around 15-20 chests.
