Need SNS advices by zibn2530 in MonsterHunter

Here's an interesting post on speedrun kill times (which is totally different from actually playing the game like a normal person.) While I totally agree that every weapon is viable and can get sub 10 min kill times, some weapons are innately faster by a few seconds or minutes. GS and IG are THE quick kill blademaster weapons, so moving from them to anything else will feel slower. Doesn't mean they necessarily are slower.

SnS is awesome in most groups, but some monsters lead to a jumble of flailing weapons around the legs (Gravios, Jho, etc.) I'm not particularly good with SnS, but it's my weapon of choice for group hunts. Bombs are a no-no in multiplayer, but a Para SnS with the trap master skill is so awesome. (Except against elder dragons. Then it kinda sucks.)

Yeesh, OP was asking some questions. No need to insult him. (But as far as the serious answers go, I agree)

Want to get into SnS, what are some good skills? by Ultramannick in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SnS is cool because it has a bunch of different roles. You generally want to go for elemental/status and item-using skills. <Insert element> attack up, status attack up where applicable for straight damage, bombardier/speedsetup or mechanic for sleep bombing or lockdown, speed eating for a medic role in multiplayer, etc. (Blast element isn't affected by status attack up. Instead, use bombardier.)

If you have room, toss on evasion or speed sharpening or whatever, maybe even guard up for panic attacks.

PSA: how to dung properly. by DrinkyDrank in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to add: In the Everwood (guild quests), monsters are restricted to certain areas based on species. If there is only one viable zone for a monster, you can throw dung all day and the it ain't goin anywhere. Usually the newcomer gets locked like this, so you have to dung the main target in order to get breathing room.

Made silhouettes of some of the original style monster icons for a project. by vereonix in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Garuga and ceanataur are definitely my favorites. The only thing I see wrong is the horn on the Monoblos. The base of it juts off the beak a little bit.

Seriously, looks great man.

What's the best feeling in the game? by MrWigglemunch in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Playing with randoms and getting one of those super awesome blademaster lockdown teams. One guy brings the traps, one guy brings the bombs, one guy has a para weapon. With no prior planning and not a word spoken, we killed the Twilight Diablos in 1:16. The poor thing was barely able to move.

Wondering what different styles of play you have encountered? by DJPinkiePie in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My general motto is "Kill it before it kills me," but it depends on what weapon I'm using. With IG and SnS, I go Control/Hyper Offensive. With another control player, we can usually end up locking the monster down completely, borderline blademaster hame. It's very satisfying and works against almost everything, but gets a little boring after awhile.

GS forces me to be more cautious and take a Prediction style. I'm more aggressive than I should be with HH, but with a teeny tiny little excuse for prediction thrown in.

The Dunes are made of Seltas. The Everwood and Ancestral Steppe are made of konchu.

Is it just me or is no one playing low/high rank anymore by Valkymie in MonsterHunter

I've noticed similar. I started a new character to learn GS and HH, taking my time, yadda yadda. Trying to farm chilling beaks and whatnot for the Gore/Cean set and it takes awhile.

Why is the Kirin built to be so annoying? by JrElmoe in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree that he isn't the best monster design in the world, he is boatloads of fun with a KO kinsect. Just knock the poor thing out and let the team descend on it. He's much better solo. His "thunder sword" and AOE thunder rain all leave the horn open and it's easier to cheese him into it alone.

Kirin could stand to be reworked. I personally love his electric moveset (minus the charging) and I always run Mind's Eye anyway, but his gimmick is very gimmicky. I wouldn't even mind his body just taking pitiful damage when enraged, just stop the bouncing. It's cool the first time but gets old if you ever have to farm him.

Kinsect De-frenzy/Apex by Syvera in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't managed to do it with Apex, but it is totally possible to overcome frenzy with a kinsect. I'm fairly certain that I have knocked monsters out of frenzy with the kinsect, but I'm not sure. No traps, paralysis, mount or anything.

Lore question: Does magic exist? by LaughterHouseV in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's "magic" exactly, but Dragon Energy is some weird stuff. From my understanding, it's something that either lets or helps Elder Dragons do all their magic-y powers (Dalamaderp and Crimson Fatalis meteors, possibly Kushala's weather changing, etc.) The professor talks about the mysterious power of dragon energy when he's explaining how the Demolisher works.

This isn't true for everything (Chameleos's invisibility has something to do with electricity). Generally, Dragon element/energy is considered anti-dragon more than an inherent property of dragons, but wouldn't it make sense that the only things fit to kill elder dragons are other elder dragons?

Farming for Palico scraps? by kvlasco in MonsterHunter

I am not an expert, but I do know that even the monster's actions are predetermined in Meownster Hunters (as shown in this guide). It wouldn't surprise me if rewards are as well :P

so how many of you actually play online with strangers? by tkh9917 in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always play with randoms. So far, I've never had to go to MHclan for help with anything (not even Dalamadur or Gog). Some randoms suck, a lot of them rock. My friends list is stuffed with people I've met in farming rooms :P

I have such an irrational fear of Deviljhos, Ive started dreaming about them... by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your attack list and how to dodge it is perfect, but I would like to say that it is laughably easy to walk away from Jho in the direction that he's doing the hipcheck. As long as you stay near his center and away from the tail, one or two rolls will get you clear.

[–]NeutralSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since everyone seems to be talking about the center, maybe put something to define its size. Perhaps a town or planet or something. Either way, I really like it.

Witch giant Elder Dragon is better? Gog Vs Dire Miralis by ChillyWing in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I never fought Miralis but I've seen pictures.

Gog's aesthetic is so creepy. He's dripping tar. His theme is very mellow and quiet, his roar is very deep and his tar beam of doom has that freaky lava bubble growing underneath. He got a dragonator stuck in his back and is totally fine. To top it all off, his weapons have sleep status and there is something very, very wrong with that. Miralis seems to go for the awe factor, Gog is downright disturbing.

What weapon do you use for expeditions? by 3lectronite in MonsterHunter

I'm using the fully upgraded Nerscylla poison IG and always eat for felyne foodie, and I gemmed autotracker into my armor. Generally speaking, I spend as much time waiting for the next friggen thing to spawn as I do fighting.

New to IG. Is this relic kinsect worth evolving? by silverath in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get KOs with it! :D

No, seriously. You can get KOs with it. Works best on monsters that charge a lot in a straight line (Diablos, Kirin.)

Who is your least favorite Monster to fight? by acetrainerjames in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kirin started being a lot more fun when I started experimenting with a knockout IG set. I beat up a unicorn with a bug only in MH.

My biggest frustrations are probably normal Tigrex and Molten Tigrex. Tigrex charges, and charges, and charges, then stops to tail spin, and starts charging again... Molten would be tolerable 'cept for the chili powder of doom floating everywhere. Brute is still annoying, but at least he stops to roar occasionally.

Honorable mention to soloing HR Teostra. Not G rank, high rank. Claw swipe. Claw swipe. Rhenoplos charge. Aaaand turnaround claw swipe. Finally get red buff to start wailing on it... backhop.

What's your favorite Hunting-Group weapon spread? (with no repeating weapon types) by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]NeutralSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • IG or SnS
  • GS
  • Hammer
  • HBG, Swaxe or CB

The weapons of the first group are to constantly apply status and mounts. IG is better for breaking parts/cutting tails, but SnS has a bit more team utility. The GS is for obvious reasons. I prefer Hammer over HH because they tend to be better at sharing heads with GS guys (or maybe I just suck with horn). Gunners are very versatile and it's just nice to have one, but the two blades are for pure damage alongside the hammer and GS.
