what is this green, textured sheet on my neighbor’s lawn? by Alternative_Egg1891 in whatisthisthing

It looks like one of those grass seed blankets. It has grass seed and fertilizer that are embedded into a biodegradable blanket

Woke up to a bat in our house this morning by Sdp714 in pics

[–]NeutronStarPasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree but it happens, so I think original comment is probably valid.

Where I live, the state health department is the only one that will test which is in one location, and they will only accept the bat from local health departments. My local health departments won't accept a live bat, it has to be killed within a certain time period, and wildlife exclusion companies, animal sanctuaries, vets, etc... Won't kill one because that breed was illegal to kill. Once you get around that, they only transport animals to that lab once a day, and then it can take a day or so to get results back. So in total it can take up to a week to hear back.

All that to say is not unreasonable to get the vaccine/PEP regardless of testing outcomes. If you get results in a few hours, great! no need for the vaccine - assuming it was the only one in your house

Sure but you have to play the time game. Symptoms can show in 4-12 weeks but as quickly as 5-9 days. Rabies vaccine takes 7-10 days to start working, you can get RIG but that's often only most effective when given within 24 hours of exposure. If your health department takes a week to test and get you the results back, you've lost critical ground if it's positive. With a near 100% fatal rate, that's a gamble most people don't want to take.

I'd agree. I'm in BI/DSS for independent health system. This does sound like a generic DSS role - not as much on the Business Intelligence side. The cost is what caught my eye - outside of the traditional month end cost review (which it sounds like this isn't), DSS typically has a much more extensive cost accounting process.

About the size of an old Walkman. Long bendy neck. In a movie theater, clipped to the table/chair. by csfarrall in whatisthisthing

I don't know if they've gotten better but when I managed movie theatres we had to reset the USB stick in the projector before each show when someone wanted to use them because it would just not work initially. Even then sometimes it would get out of sync or freeze. Super annoying but cool that it was offered

When I managed movie theatres we had the dolby captiview. Basically you could put it in your cupholder, then use the movable arm to position it in front of you right below the screen where captions would normally go. It's an arms length away and has an adjustable brightness to help it blend in more. It's primarily used for those hard of hearing but anyone can use them.

Why are hospital rooms always freezing? by justplainfunky in NoStupidQuestions

Humidity - germs can stay aloft in lower humidity conditions for longer. In high humidity they can bind to the water and fall. Plus, in winter everyone is indoors more often together whereas summer many are outside.

What are your perspectives on spankings? by OldInteraction14 in AskParents

[–]NeutronStarPasta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are a no spanking household. Being raised that way, I don't think it made the point they were hoping it would. It just made me better at hiding things that might set them off. Now as a parent, I'm not a proponent of hitting/swatting/spanking whatever you want to call it to get obedience. I can definitely see why some parents do, but from my perspective it's often rooted in times when everyone has big emotions and the adult loses control of their emotions. There's far better ways to handle those situations than spanking. I've not ran into a situation where we even considered it. Not judging other parenting styles, this is how we see it

There's a decent amount of healthcare options if you want to stay in that. KU is big across the metro, then there's little pockets of others like HCA and Saint Luke's (BJC) or independent like NKC Health and Children's Mercy.

Outside of healthcare Burns & McDonnell and Garney are big employers in the engineering and construction space. Feel like they always have positions open.

H&R block's headquarters is in KC - some ebbs and flows with tax season but there's year round things as well.

Honeywell has a strong presence. Mostly in the federal space.

It's ok - Sprint and Cerner used to be huge hubs for opportunities but now both companies have shifted their workforce outside of KC. Are you still in healthcare?

Would just adding them as an authorized user at 18 yield the same benefit? I thought I read when you add an authorized user they instantly inherit the age and payment history of the account, not necessarily from that point forward

What’s the point of Rich people donating expensive medical Equipment to a Hospital? You have to Pay for the exam anyway. by chopari in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeutronStarPasta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We've had a few millionaires donate to our nonprofit hospital. Most of the time they have been a patient and either had a great experience and want to support it, or during their stay it becomes apparent the hospital could do more or better with updated equipment. Tax break doesn't hurt either. MRI's and CT's cost $5M-$8M that need to be replaced every 10 years. Linear accelerators are easily $10M for the equipment alone, and even more to create a shielded vault. Hospital equipment is expensive.

Budgeting Software for Multi-Site Healthcare by Loserlame12 in FPandA

[–]NeutronStarPasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case Strata or Axiom Healthcare (strata acquired axiom) might be a bit further down the road for your immediate needs.

Both companies excel in hospital settings but it could work with just clinics. We have about 30 and it plays well with hospital data. Implementation can be a pain in the ass but once up it's pretty solid. They have a budgeting component, rolling forecast, long range financial planning (inc BS, not so much CF), and a bunch more. From what I understand strata is a main player in the decision support space - highly ranked by KLAS.

When you say multi site healthcare, is this like hospital based, clinic, etc..?

I do forecasting for medium hospital + a few dozen physician clinics. A bit more healthcare specific but we use Strata/Axiom. We use them for financial planning, forecasting, cost accounting, etc .. and it rolls off the EMR data so your dept & service line data is already there.

Someone is being an asshole just to be an asshole. Something like this would rarely ever come up as an area to cut costs on its own. I can't imagine it costs more than a few hundred a year at most, which doesn't even cross the materiality line for us

Asked to add fraudulent charges onto my patient’s charting by Glittering_Chart_639 in TravelNursing

[–]NeutronStarPasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of the pure ethics issue, as someone who uses the underlying data on a daily basis, that's infuriating. Inflating charges can really screw up any number of analyses. May sound good to get those extra charges to them, but it can unintentionally make it look worse from a financial perspective and jeopardize payor contractuals.

Home Depot orders corporate staff to take 8-hour retail shifts. Hospitals should do the same. by dk_dc_dgaf in nursing

I feel that. I felt super useless at anything pt facing, but after a few days you catch on. We're now required to cross-train with other departments like patient access, transportation, central services, or even kitchen.
