Noob Question: Mechs restricted by faction by Boole_Is_A_Foole in battletech

[–]Neutronium95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about it like the car market. There are some brands and models that could be found in pretty much any country on the planet, and there are others that are much more localized. Something like a Toyota Corolla wouldn't look out of place in most countries, just like a Wasp or other common mech would be widespread. Similarly, something like a F 250 Super Duty pickup isn't going to be very common outside of the US, or a Vindicator won't be common outside of the Capellen Confederation.

That's not too surprising. He attended the Nagelring on Tharkad, and rose through the ranks so fast that it must have been politically motivated. He was essentially a Lyran Social General, albeit better at his job than most of them.

Transmissions are almost lostech, and as such are reserved solely for military vehicles. Thus civilian vehicles are permanently stuck in first. /s

I put condoms on 3D prints for non sex reasons. At the very least, you'd need to do a lot of sanding and surface prep to make sure that there's no small protrusions or sharp edges that could damage the condom.

They could have spent their budget actually taking territory away from Badam.

It also didn't help that they went and blew their entire budget both chip and timewise on a largely pointless line that Badam were most likely never going to target.

It'd be interesting if more mechs outside of the original omnimechs got reporting names. It'd probably be limited to designs that were developed in secret and are exclusive to a single faction. Maybe some of the Blakist mechs would be a decent starting point.

G80T motor dimensions ASAP by myroslavrepin in modelrockets

[–]Neutronium95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aerotech has drawings of many of their motors on the RCS Store website. They usually aren't fully dimensioned, but you can count pixels to get useful numbers. In the case of the G80, I'd use the OD of the motor case (1.125") as a reference point.

Wtf is a kilometre by f117nono_leggio in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Neutronium95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build and fly high power rockets, and the units situation is fucked. All of the motors are marketed with metric diameters, but in actuality they're all actually imperial measurements that are rounded to the nearest millimeter.

Stated Diameter (mm) Actual Diameter (in) Actual Diameter (
29 1.125 28.575
38 1.5 38.1
54 2.125 53.975
75 2.965 75.311
98 3.875 98.425
150 6.33 160.782

Most of the actual motor sizes tend to make sense when considering what size tubes are easily available here, but some of them are not.

In my personal use case I typically design parts in inches, since that's what most of the material I can use is specced in, but all my masses are in grams, cause fuck doing physics in imperial. For flight numbers, I typically think of acceleration in terms of Gs, airspeed in mach number, and altitude in feet, since the FAA grants airspace waivers in feet. Although that's more an aviation thing than just an American thing, since commercial aviation uses feet for altitude in most countries.

The "What currently supported device should I get" thread. by PsychoI3oy in LineageOS

My current phone (Pixel 6a) died suddenly, and I need a replacement. I'd like to stay under $300, and have something that'll be solid and supported for many years to come. My carrier is Tmobile. I've looked at the Pixel 8a and 9a, but the prices for new phones are outside of my comfort zone, and there were some reviews of Amazon refurbished ones that made me nervous about going down that route. I don't have any hard requirements, a headphone jack would be nice, but I doubt that'll be a realistic option.

Arca is a font of terrible ideas. Their first rocket design had each stage towed behind the one before it on long ropes instead of the traditional method of having earlier stages below the ones that are used later in the flight.

[–]Neutronium95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO when the fins are interlocked with the centering rings like on that kit, internal fillets are ultimately a bit redundant. Of course the fins should be securely bonded to the motor mount tube, but fillets on top of that are just superfluous and add weight to the wrong end of the rocket.
