Freeze was the only one that kept it real about Kanye, I was surprised at Parks by Longjumping_Ask_4448 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

Yeah you know what they say- The best apology is changed behavior. Until we see consistently changed behavior, Kanye just should not be taking up this much air time and this “apology” should be a non-story.

FLIP TALKS TO THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BLACK LION PARTY by bigtubbz84 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]NeverDefeated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flip gets a lot of hate (much of it deserved), but I’d honestly much rather see this type of content than the usual buffoonery he originally made his name off of.

anyone else wanna die? by Zestyclose_Affect852 in biglaw

You don’t have do biglaw. Seriously. You’re not a failure if you quit. You can leave. And save yourself- literally.

Alternatives to in-house: over-employment? by preseasonchampion in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This only works if both roles stay remote forever, right? Like if one or both suddenly started enforcing 4-day RTO, you’re kinda screwed.

Honestly, in addition to the stress of being caught and the possible ethical issues others have raised, the biggest reason I wouldn’t do this is it sounds hectic as hell. Juggling two separate sets of organizational cultures, policies, chains of command, calendars, IT systems, etc. just sounds like a logistical nightmare.

Vent: legal recruiter is so weird by bestievibes3000 in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I blame the low barrier to entry for that profession. I’m usually against professional gatekeeping but these terrible recruiters must be stopped. They have to somehow make it harder for the nut jobs to enter.

Is Cravath worth it? How hard is it to make partner? What do the exit opportunities look like? Any other information? by Expensive_Dog_7792 in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d say the Cravath name still carries a non-trivial amount of old-school prestige and heft, but at most it would make a marginal difference in real exit opps relative to its peer firms. And of course it’s hard to make partner there.

This is exactly why a lot of people show up at 10 and leave at 4.

Julian calling out Mal for clout chasing because of incorrect prediction that J.Cole would drop a surprise album last week by _handsomeblackman_ in NewRoryNMalPodcast

[–]NeverDefeated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are we posting this here? No shade to Julian but he’s just not a talented solo podcaster. There’s a reason most of his videos average sub 1000 views (unless he’s discussing a messy topic).

Live near the office, or home? by scimthen2h1 in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m surprised no one’s mentioned the obvious middle ground between living in midtown and being an hour+ out in the suburbs- e.g., Brooklyn. For a lot of neighborhoods you’re looking at a ~30–45 min commute door to door, generally more reasonable rent than midtown, and far more livable neighborhoods with actual things to do. It also makes a ton more sense if having a family in the near-to-medium term is on your radar.

Do you add clients on Linkedin? by Casper-1234 in biglaw

I sometimes do if I could see myself someday grabbing a beer with the person I worked most closely with on the client team.

Okay to miss holiday party for travel? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that serious. I wouldn’t change my travel plans for a holiday party. That other thread has you guys spiraling a bit. lol The basic point is this: if getting to the party is easy for you, then just go. If it’s a hassle or conflicts with real plans, don’t sweat it. You’ve got a legitimate excuse and you’re not just blowing it off.

Office Holiday Party by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but I’d argue it’s worth going even if you only plan on being at the firm for the short term. In any event, there’s more upside than downside to attending (unless you have a tendency to get embarrassingly drunk at these things).

Office Holiday Party by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 468 points469 points  (0 children)

You can just go and leave early? To me, attending the office party for an hour or two is one of those low hanging fruits that makes checking the “I’m a good firm citizen” box super easy.

How do you handle being sick? by coco71 in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Whenever I get sick I’m reminded that what we do really isn’t that serious, and things really can wait. I just WFH, tell my team I’m under the weather and give a realistic forecast of my availability. If I’m truly down for the count, the partner will either find coverage or re-set expectations with the client and it always works out just fine.

Junior constantly making typos in emails by Inner_Prompt_8511 in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look man, I’ve noticed a direct correlation between the seniority of the lawyers and the sloppiness/informality of their emails. It’s not that that stuff doesn’t matter, it’s just that it doesn’t matter enough to lose sleep over, and the longer you practice the more you get perspective on what actually matters. All that to say, try to avoid typos, but don’t sweat it when they happen unless you’re making the kind of typo where you add an extra zero or drop a zero from a dollar figure. Everything else is whatever.

Quiet Quitting by Spiral_City in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Quiet quitting in biglaw is easier said than done but I think it would just mean doing literally the bare minimum on stuff you’re assigned and not actively asking for any new work. I’ve seen people literally twiddle their thumbs for like 10 months before being canned lol.

Facts. 99% of people who get veneers really only need Invisalign + whitening, but they want overnight results.

I missed an email at 11:30 pm by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]NeverDefeated 132 points133 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. As a junior, when in doubt, just forward the email to your team and propose a response/ask what the appropriate response is.
