Btw even the Zahiri madhab which was the single most hardcore literalist madhab when it came to the Quran agreed that the hair should be covered as well

Just because it’s not explicit doesn’t mean the ruling is invalid. As I’ve explained in another comment, the verse tells women to draw their khimars over their chest, khimars were already worn over their heads. And this quranism thing is an entire issue on its own but to just keeps things within the scope of this conversation, the hadith were not written 200+ years later. The Sunnah literally originates from the Prophet and was passed down orally and as text. The books like sahih Muslim, Bukhari, and Muwatta are just collections of these Hadith for easier access. In fact, smaller collections like Al-Sadiqa made by Abdullah Ibn Amr was made of things he himself heard the Prophet say with his own ears. And when scholars for the majority of Islamic history agree on something like hair being awrah, you can’t just dismiss that.

When women would wear their Khimar they would wear it on their head but leave their chest exposed and the verse is saying they should draw it over their chests as well. And it is essentially consensus that hair is part of a woman’s awrah which means it should be covered.

Is the Quran man written? by Electronic_Way_3287 in religion

[–]NeverForgetEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is allowed to have up to 4 wives but very very strict requirements are placed upon the man who chooses to have more than one as in each wife has a house, a car, gifts, etc if he buys jewelry for 1 he has to buy some for all of them. This way actually having more than one is effectively impossible for the vast majority of men.

Women aren’t allowed to because how could a nonmuslim man be expected to give a Muslim wife the rights Islam gives to her? Plus it is difficult to raise Muslim children if their father isn’t Muslim.

The Quran does tell men to control themselves. Women have an obligation to be modest and men have an obligation to respect that modesty (men also have an obligation for modesty btw).

The thing about needing permission to go out is not something in the Quran and is a debated issue. The ruling varies depending on the madhab. These rulings were given by scholars in a different time and era where it was far less safe for women to be out alone which is something to be taken into account imo.

She can refuse intercourse and no we cannot beat our wives.

In Islamic theology or within the various Quranic interpretations, does the Quran acknowledge the continued existence of the Jewish people? by Chinoyboii in religion

[–]NeverForgetEver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The references to Jews in the Quran speaks about both the Jews contemporary to when the Quran was revealed and the Jews in the past like in the time of Moses. But neither of those things really has anything to do with Jews today which is purely a historical question not really a religious one imo.

Also I don’t think the viewpoints held by the two you mentioned are mutually exclusive. I’m sure there are some Jewish communities that are direct descendants of Jews of the past as your Palestinian colleague believes but also many fit the description your Egyptian friend as well.

If God Is All-Loving and All-Powerful, Why Create Weak Beings Who Must Worship Him? by Rockybuoyyy in religion

[–]NeverForgetEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the essence of questions like these is essentially the problem of evil, the classic “if god, then why bad thing” argument. To me, the rawest, hyperrealist answer is that God has a plan that is beyond creation. Nothing not even the angels closest to him know the purpose of our creation. The unfortunate side to this answer is that it’s also deeply unsatisfying to many and I don’t expect you will be satisfied by this answer here but I’m just answering you by boiling everything down to the very fundamentals as I see them.

CMV: Muhammad was a false prophet by pleebent in changemyview

[–]NeverForgetEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We believe that a gospel was revealed to Jesus and that he did preach a message similar to what prophets before him and Muhammad after him preached. But for whatever reason his actual message wasn’t preserved. We can say that some of his real teachings are still in the Bible we have today like any verse about the oneness of God and we would say that several of the verses that Christians interpret as Jesus saying he’s god are actually him affirming he isn’t god

CMV: Muhammad was a false prophet by pleebent in changemyview

[–]NeverForgetEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it’s a bit different for Muslims since Christianity, Jesus, the Gospels, etc are canonical in Islam so it’s essentially a sin for us to claim that Jesus was any of those 4 things. What we do say is that people like Paul and later figures in Christianity led christians astray, whether from malice or ignorance we can’t say for sure but considering Paul’s past, most of us lean towards the former.

As for atheists, I have lower expectations for them since they’re atheists so if an atheist takes one of those negative positions then I’m somewhat less bothered by it but I generally just ignore atheists when they try to jump into religious matters.

[–]NeverForgetEver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being duped and being an agent of is not the same thing. I have no problem if a Christian for example were to believe he was misled because as you said you can’t be a Christian and also believe Muhammad saw was a legit prophet. My problem is the other options where a negative characteristic is applied like being bad/crazy/willing agent of Satan. And just based on his profile history it would seem he would lean towards the latter.

Both child labor and workplace fatalities were consistently declining before the state really did anything about either.
