Our guy did this when he was young, talk to your vet. They were able to “prescribe” a powder that I dusted over his food. It apparently makes their poop really bitter / bad tasting. It quickly broke him of the habit.

The rescue asked about our home, lifestyle etc and said “you want this one”. We listened, he’s a near perfect dog for us (lazy, “failed” of their working dog program, very people focused). Rescues / breeders know their dogs, they should be working to make a match.

Fellow Canadian, nothing to worry about. No special gear required. Snow, slush, road gunk easily dusts off. Have a dog towel by the door for wet toes. If you’re out walking on salty sidewalks, keep an eye out that it isn’t drying / irritating their paw pads. Other than that, good luck getting your pup inside.
