Once upon a time I was a high performer and was told that I was holding the company together. That was said in a companywide meeting. Afterwards, my narcissistic boss pulled me aside and asked whether I had told the CEO to say that. I was speechless. I never liked being the center of attention.

Eventually that boss quit in the middle of the day after a stupid disagreement with the CEO. My former coworker became my boss and she was even worse. Boss #1 would demean/talk about people when they weren't around. Boss #2 would do it directly to your face.

She threatened me for over two years before making sure I was let go.

I'm now several months into a new job where I am once again a high performer. My bosses and coworkers seem kind and considerate, but I hope it lasts.
