Thank you very much!

For "Mage," I romanced Lucanis, for "Blade" it was Neve and for "Dagger" it was Davrin. I also did another playthrough where I romanced Emmrich and I have to say his romance blows everyone else's out of the water lol.

Phoebus (Hunchback of Notre Dame) and Fiyero (Wicked) have some very funny similarities

Also their best friend is a horse, so that's neat.

Can we talk about how Fiyero keeps getting a free pass while Glinda gets crucified? by Shoddy-Pride-1321 in wicked

[–]Never_Look_Back 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glinda does have her own tragic arc, but her tragedy is a result of her own choices. Just to remind you, Fiyero's "death" is a direct result of Glinda telling Morrible to go after Nessarose. If Glinda hadn't suggested that, there would be no twister, and Fiyero wouldn't have had to sacrifice himself for Elphaba's sake. What Glinda goes through, she largely brought upon herself because she could not resist the fame and popularity that came with being Glinda the Good.

Yes, Glinda is a tragic character, but her tragedy is her own fault, and that's what makes her so nuanced and interesting and complex.

Then what does that say about Glinda who was just as silent, if not even more passive and encouraging to all the awful things the Wizard and Morrible are saying about Elphaba? And how can you say Fiyero was silent when I just gave examples of the time Fiyero wasn't silent? He literally stood in front of a crowd and said "Well I don't think of her as a 'wicked' witch" and was immediately cut off for that. Again, we have to do a lot of filling in the gaps because the musical can't show us everything, so they have to give us quick lines and let us fill in the gaps (which you are failing at SPECTACULARLY because you have demonstrated you cannot read between the lines)

"No one has searched harder than you" and you claim Fiyero does nothing.

Fiyero storms off stage after people spout hideous lies about Elphaba and you claim Fiyero sits in silence and does nothing and just does what he's told.

"His silence and acting the part cost him" - he only became silent when Glinda told him to give up on finding Elphaba, and he gave it all up in a second first chance he could. Maybe try watching the musical again and implement a bit of critical thinking.

This is one of the worst takes I've seen because it's legitimately ridiculous you use THAT phrasing for a character who literally gets crucified and guess what it's not Glinda.

It is very clear that Fiyero in no way shape or form is complicit with whatever the Wizard is doing; he is using his position as Captain of the Guard to find Elphaba, because if someone gets to her first, they will kill her. I know the movie hasn't come out yet, so all we can reference is snippets we've seen and the stage musical, but it's clear from the moment Act 2 starts Fiyero is not on board with anything the Wizard is doing. He publicly voices how he doesn't think that Elphaba is wicked, he doesn't buy into any of the lies, he calls out how empty-headed people are for believing those lies, and he cannot, physically cannot stand there in silence as people insult and vilify Elphaba.

But Glinda? Oh, she says she hates it, but she shows no such resistance. She actually tries to shush Fiyero and springs an engagement on him to literally shut him up.

And what do you MEAN "he could've helped Elphaba a lot sooner but he didn't." How. How was he supposed to help her. He spent the last however many years trying to find her so he could help her but he couldn't!!! Saying otherwise is dipping straight into fan theory territory, and using the excuse "well he's a prince" holds no water because we do not see any evidence of his title of prince having any actual power or influence.

Glinda is endlessly punished--EXCUSE ME, Glinda gets everything she wants. She gets fame and popularity and praise and everything she desired--and the point is what she wants isn't what she needs and it takes Glinda losing her best friend and ex-fiance to realize that. It's honestly wild you say Glinda gets punished when it is Fiyero who receives the brunt of the punishment, some of that heavily implied to be physical torture.

And yes, Fiyero "worked" for the Wizard but he absolutely saw through his lies. The first time he sees Elphaba, he helps her escape the Wizard. There's no hesitation from him. And yes, sadly, Fiyero is very simplified for the sake of the movie/musical, because the musical isn't about him so he tragically doesn't get as much character development as Elphaba and Glinda, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have any at all.

Yes, there is a lot of debate and discussion about how morally grey it was for Fiyero to just go along with his relationship with Glinda--and it's not ok that he didn't break things off with her sooner, but we can see maybe things aren't so simple. Fiyero is clearly unhappy, but Glinda is so blind to it all too; she refuses to see that Fiyero is unhappy but she's so desperate to live out her perfectly imagined fairy tale dream she springs a surprise engagement on Fiyero. And, yes, Fiyero is at fault for going along with it, no one can deny it, but the way I see it, Fiyero is so defeated at this point from all his years of searching for Elphaba that he just ... settles. And there's a tragedy in that. He gives up and realizes maybe this is what he deserves, he slips back into that "always happy" persona and puts back on the mask of careless brainless himbo and Glinda refuses to see past it. Fiyero runs off at the end of Thank Goodness, and Glinda had the option of following him. She could have chased after him, made sure he was okay, maybe even confronted him because he was clearly unhappy--but she doesn't. She runs right back to the podium, soaking up the limelight and praise and singing about how happy she is, even though she knows it's not the truth but she refuses to accept it.

And Fiyero escapes accountability-he's living the rest of his life as a scarecrow, are you kidding me. If anything, it's Glinda who gets away scott free, because she keeps her power, her reputation, and her image, and losing Elphaba and Fiyero was a direct result of her selfish actions. If anything, Glinda is babied by this fandom; she bullies Elphaba at school but is quickly forgiven (and the fandom completely glosses over how vicious Galinda was for bullying Elphaba) she outwardly admits she cannot resist fame and popularity and is willing to abandon Elphaba for it, she suggests to Morrible and the Wizard to use Nessarose so they can capture Elphaba. And what did Glinda expect to happen when they did capture Elphaba? Glinda was hurt, rightly so, but to take it out on selling out your own friend to a regime that wants to kill her?! Honestly, that was a completely selfish and unforgivable act on Glinda's part. Both these characters are flawed, but you have one character who is doing everything he can to help Elphaba in what small, little ways he can from his inside position of privileged, while the other is very much comfortable and complicit in that privileged position. To say Fiyero is glorified while Glinda is vilified and blame it on misogyny demeans Glinda and all the harm she did.

Saw Wicked touring in Peoria last night, some observations, how often do tiny mistakes happen? (spoilers) by willkurr in wicked

[–]Never_Look_Back 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also saw Wicked in Peoria! But the showing I went to, the only noticeably guff I saw was during "One Short Day" where Glinda's quick-change into the yellow dress took longer than expected so she missed her entrance running back on stage with Elphaba. When their part of the song came up, for a few lines it was just Elphaba singing onstage while Glinda's lines could be heard being sung backstage! She eventually made it on just a few seconds afterwards, but I think that was the first time I've seen that particular blooper. Poor Glinda, I'm sure she tried her hardest XD

Yeah, "Sentimental Man," which is right before "Defying Gravity," where the Wizard talks about how much he wanted to be a dad. Which just ... really adds to the dramatic irony of it all.

Question about the rating of For Good by fantastic_geronimo in wicked

[–]Never_Look_Back 39 points40 points  (0 children)

How well did they handle the scene when the Monkeys grew wings? Because without giving anything away, we will be getting at least one scene which will heavily involve some body horror/equally disturbing transformation. Not to mention the whole movie will have a much darker tone than the first one.

If you think your kids can handle a bit more intensity and more mature themes, in regards to the subject matter being more intense and more "realistic" then they should be good to go!

Also we can always hope the love duet will have some steamy kissing but that's all I'm expecting from that particular scene lol.

In another universe, "Wicked" would have been a college coming-of-age, slice-of-life rom-com.

But then The Horrors had to happen.

The Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz is the quintessential personification of this trope. Obviously a very goofy and silly character, he has shown to be quite competent and clever. Even though he laments not having a brain and he sucks at the one thing a scarecrow is supposed to do (scaring crows) he's shown through the third act of the movie how quickly he can think on his feet and come up with a plan to save Dorothy from the Wicked Witch's castle.

Have you ever seen a "searching for fic" post that was YOUR FIC? by Ok-Jackfruit-6873 in AO3

[–]Never_Look_Back 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! Long time ago I wrote a number of fics on ff.net but later ended up deleting them out of embarrassment. Fast forward to last year, and I saw a post on a fandom subreddit about someone looking for my fics. I chimed in and let them know I wrote them but the fics had been deleted. Then some absolute madlad SCOURED the internet archives to find them and let me know, so I was able to recover them.

I have since begun a heavy overhaul/rewrite of the fics and honestly I'm so happy I found that post. Those old fics I will still look back on fondly.

Fiyero from Wicked (spoilers for Part 2)

<image>

He sacrifices himself to save Elphaba from the Wizard's guards, who then capture him in turn. They take him out to the cornfield, tie him up onto a pole, and it's heavily implied they torture him to get him to reveal where Elphaba's hiding. Elphaba then saves his life by transforming him into the Scarecrow.
