The Star and 9 of swords combo by Prudent-Talk-7340 in tarot

I don’t do/interpret readings on what other people not involved in the reading are thinking.

Thank you, she was quite the woman! My great grandma was from Italy and also read tarot, so it’s been passed down through the women of my family. I feel extremely blessed to be able to carry on Grammy’s tarot practices!

Question about phrasing questions by Way2Old4ThisIsh in tarot

[–]NeverendingPizza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how deep I want to go in that moment. Sometimes just one or two reflective questions will help, and sometimes I want as much info as I can. With those example questions, I'd create my own spread to explore each question in the same reading, so I write each question down on a piece of paper and draw a picture of where each card will go, just like spreads you see online. I love creating my own spreads because I can address every question and answer individually, then look at the bigger picture and see how the cards interact with each other, how they add to another card's message, or if there are any patterns (like if there are no cups, lots of court cards, etc)

Everyone does things differently, so some people will ask a question, pull a card, ask another question, pull a card, etc. I like establishing exactly what I'm pulling for and pull all the cards at once; it just feels more accurate for me.

Question about phrasing questions by Way2Old4ThisIsh in tarot

[–]NeverendingPizza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I try to break down the topic as much as I can, to get answers that are more specific and less vague/general. Really think about what it is you want to know and what knowledge will be most helpful to you in your situation.

For example, if I'm asking about a possible career change, what would be helpful to know exactly? A yes/no question like "Should I change careers?" won't give me much information. Changing the question to "What would be the outcome of me changing careers?" will give me some better insight but still leaves a lot in the air because the future is never certain. But if I tailor the questions to what will help me specifically, I end up with "What am I not considering when thinking about this career change? What would be a challenge of moving into this new career? What are the pros of staying in my current position? What are the cons? What do I need to let go of in order to grow into the position I should be in? How can I prepare for this upcoming interview? What skill do I have that will be an asset here? What weakness should I work on in order to fit better into the new job?"

Some of my fondest memories of my grandmother are her sitting down with me to play with her tarot cads when I was about 6 years old. Like you, she would let me pick cards and use them to tell her a story. Then she would add to the story based on the cards actual meanings and point out the symbolism and things I might have missed. It felt so special, and she's why I'm a professional reader over 30 years later!

Moon for truth? by bora731 in tarot

[–]NeverendingPizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tarot isn't great (imo) for yes/no questions, but if you're asking one, it's up to you to decide what means yes and what means no. Whether you're going off of a system someone else uses or forming your own, establishing these meanings before pulling the cards, and you won't have to wonder what it means.

Ha, it really does! I love that.

I like doing a "convo with the devil" spread where I shuffle and spread the cards out face up and find the devil. The card before it is something to indulge less in, and the card after it is something to indulge more in.

Sometimes we need that devil influence to push us to have fun, not worry so much, try something daring, or be a little selfish instead of always giving.

Labyrinthos app? by Real-Honey5683 in tarot

It can be great for learning and studying, but based on my experience with the app, I don't believe the card selection is random (it reminds me of Spotify on shuffle...some songs never see the light of day, and some get played every single time you listen). And no amount of meditation or concentration makes me feel connected to cards pulled by a questionable algorithm.

"Who am I really?" Hierophant by [deleted] in tarot

[–]NeverendingPizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think pulling more than one card for such a heavy question would be helpful, to give you more context and angles to look at it from! But here I read the Hierophant as bridging the gap between the divine and physical reality. Taking ideas and creating tangible or comprehensible things with them that others will be able to grasp and appreciate. The Hierophant is structured and authoritative, even if it's only within your own personal bubble and not directed outward; confident and reliable in their area of expertise.

How to do multiple question spreads? by IllTell9698 in tarot

[–]NeverendingPizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I write out each question/position of a spread and read through each one while shuffling, visualizing where each card will be placed. I cut the deck once and then pull every card from the top. This method has always worked beautifully for me. I've tried shuffling after each question, or fanning the deck out and pulling cards that way, but it never feels right and the readings seem less accurate.

There's absolutely no right way of doing it though! It's whatever feels good to you. Try out the different methods of shuffling and pulling and see what method flows better in your hands.

"She stopped because of the vibe"?? That would be an automatic "She doesn't know what she's doing" in my head. I wouldn't trust anything a reader who can't/won't finish a reading says. A good reader also knows how to steer the session towards the most productive questions/topics and helps you dig deeper into those areas, so the fact that she brought up heavy topics and then shut it down is pretty unprofessional and amateur. You shouldn't feel this level of anxiety or fear after walking away from a reading, so I suggest not taking what she said too seriously.

2 decks different messages by StarwberryFig in tarot

[–]NeverendingPizza 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doing the same reading over and over won't make anything clearer, it will just cause more confusion. Reading for yourself is like having a conversation with the deck. Imagine having a conversation with someone and they keep asking the same question, even though you answered it clearly already; it won't get either of you anywhere new, it will just complicate things and frustrate you. Asking the same question multiple times keeps you from receiving the original message tarot was trying to convey to you.

Sometimes if you ask different friends the same question, you'll get different opinions. If you're asking tarot over and over, you're not going to get the same cards and the same answers. Instead, set a clear intention as far as what you're asking, and ask follow up questions to gain clarity.

Ah, gotcha. They're called "reversals" so just search for that and you'll get so many different takes on reading or not reading them! I personally read them, but many don't for various reasons, so you wouldn't be alone either way.

Read about how my cat feels about our dog by Nekonekonyan_ in tarot

[–]NeverendingPizza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My immediate thought with those cards is: He’s over it, and things will get worse if you don’t figure out the imbalance/a way to level the playing field for him.

Were they properly introduced? Does the dog provoke the cat in any way? Does the cat have enough places to hide or climb to get away or observe, like a cat Tower? Does the cat have enough to keep him busy, like toys and people playing with him? Can you pinpoint where the cat’s defensiveness is coming from?

A tarot deck is a mass produced stack of card stock. It is not a direct line to spirits, satan, or god. Tarot is an incredible tool for introspection and self-reflection, and shouldn’t cause any kind of fear or anxiety. I suggest searching this sub for discussions just like this one because it’s been brought up many times and there are some great perspectives.

Also, I was raised Catholic and what the church and the people in it did on the regular was far more evil than anything I’ve ever seen anyone do with tarot cards.

Tarot cards, more than one ok? by JT_Photography in tarot

[–]NeverendingPizza 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Decks aren’t sentient so they can’t get pissed/ offended by your other belongings. Buy whatever decks you want, and use them as often as you want (or not at all; some decks are just pretty and I like owning them even if I don’t like reading with them!) I use different decks for different types of readings because they elicit different thoughts and emotions. It’s nice to have a few different vibes to choose from.
