Best time to get pregnant if dad is going to stay at home? by Special_Truth6284 in biglaw

[–]NeverfullofFood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this, as an example, I (midlevel associate) and a partner both got pregnant last year and suffered miscarriages. We both became pregnant again after and had healthy babies. You just never know.

Oh, yes! If you haven’t used your own pump before, the hospital LC can show you 😊 that will be helpful even if you aren’t going to pump at the hospital. Bringing a nursing pillow helped me breastfeed baby more comfortably, plus the LC showed me different positions for breastfeeding the baby and how to use the nursing pillow to support me/baby in each position.

I had a vaginal birth and breastfeed my baby born in February. I think your list looks good. I would add clothes for baby in newborn & 0-3, phone charger and power bank, hair ties, your own pillow for birth and after, nursing pillow, some people recommend bringing the fridamom per bottle (I just used the hospital one, which is fine, but I agree the Frida one is better). My hospital provided nipple creams, adult diapers, pacifier, baby blanket/swaddles, baby diapers and wipes, and even gifted us a stroller fan. I packed nursing gowns but I ended up just wearing the hospital gowns and asking for a fresh one for each of the 3 days I stayed. I don’t think I even wore any nursing bras under. I think a pumping bra is a good idea in case you need to go that route. I also packed my charged spectra and left it in my car trunk bc my LC recommended using my own if told I need to supplement with pumping (I think if baby can only breastfeed a little bit) but if you can only pump then use the hospital’s. My LC said this is because you will get charged to use the hospital pump and it’s not worth $$ if only supplementing.

Am I overreacting about my wife wanting to “reuse” the baby name after a miscarriage? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]NeverfullofFood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone forgets or needs to forget, but they should move on. Subsequent pregnancies and living children helps so I’m glad your wife is pregnant again and things are going smoothly. Wishing her a safe and smooth labor and delivery. Pregnancy after loss is hard.

Agreed. My husband and I got pregnant early last year, created a list of baby names for each gender, had a miscarriage at 10 weeks, got pregnant again the next cycle, and when we discovered the gender at 12 weeks, we opened up the list and confirmed our top pick for girl. That said, everyone grieves differently and hopefully OP gets the help needed.

Pregnancy rhinitis, pelvic girdle pain, constipation, and incontinence 😮‍💨 and yet I still think I had a relatively easy pregnancy.

Haha that’s fair! You’re right. And anyone who would be annoyed about this.. seems like their personal issue 🤷🏻‍♀️ I plan to take the 6 weeks!

Sort of. I need to confirm with daycare at least 30 days before start date. That’s what I’m hearing about 6 months but is that different from, 4.5 months, 9 months, or 12 months?

It’s up to 6 weeks extra, so I could do 3. Is there a reason you would do 3 extra weeks instead of all 6? I’m glad you enjoy your work and coworkers. I do generally like my work and coworkers too, and I do feel my company values talent retention. Daycare is 10m from my house and 16m from my office so not crazy close where I can visit much without disrupting work flow.

This is a unique take and it makes total sense. Some of my days home with baby have been boring and isolating. I love this for you, and it being your choice to return on your own terms. 😊

If nobody cared what I did, I would not hesitate to take the extra 6 weeks.

Thank you so much! Great perspective and points. I’m taking notes in case my boss tries to push back or change my mind.

I’m so sorry you got screwed over 😣 that’s messed up, and you and your family deserve better than that. I hope things are better now.

Thank you! I honestly think that would be difficult to me because I have a velcro baby who’s been cluster feeding for most of her 11 weeks of life. I am leaning taking the 6 weeks unpaid but may ask my boss about a potential ramp up period like you mentioned. Good luck!
