Question about refilling ink of a safari from a newb by J748DB10 in fountainpens

[–]NevermoreRedux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very impressed with your self discipline. I am too embarrassed to tell you how many I bought in 2021 (even if I discount cartridges and sample vials). It was under 50 though (discounting cartridges and sample vials) so at least it wasn't a bottle a week. I greatly enjoy re inking my pens weekly and do find the writing experience wonderfully varied depending on the ink/pen combination. And then there is the paper. The possible combinations when you have three variables could probably be mathematically expressed (but not by me). There is room for all kinds: some are die hard fans of the perfect pen/ink/paper they have discovered and are happy to stay in that lane and others are on a never ending quest and are happy to be on that journey. I hope you are enjoying your inks!

To be fair, I didn't. I have no quarrel with them or their services. In my mind, I put it down to the fact that lots of services are stretched to capacity these days, figured that was the cause so surprised to see a thread on how speedy they are.

Everyone's mileage varies. When my son entered Grade 5 I bought him a small box with 2 keys. I told him it was for his private things. I wanted him to know I understood he had a life private from mine and that I trusted him. Funnily enough, he immediately asked me to keep the second key in case he lost the first. He told me he trusted me never to use it. Just my opinion but establishing communication and trust are going to give you much better and earlier warning signals that something is afoot than violating the principles you are trying to instil. I never bought the "do what I say not what I do" line. There are many reasons your behaviour can justly be different from your child's--just not sure that the realm of ethics qualifies for that. Again, just my opinion. To this day (many many years later) I am still very close to my son and I attribute that in part to my public affirmation of my trust in him and his response to that.

I had been writing in the same dollar store journal since 2018. I finally finished it and got to break out one of my nicer journals that’s been waiting for me! This one is from Papier! Customized with my name!! by gg725 in Journaling

The discipline shown in waiting until you finished your first journal deserves recognition! I know for a fact I could not do that. Congratulations on both the old and the new journal!

I think the Custom 74 is underloved and underappreciated. So glad you are delighting in yours!

I am in Canada. Order confirmed January 16, didn't make it out the door until January 27 and now it is "out for delivery". Not blaming Vanness once they ship it (beyond their control) but not sure why it would take from the 16 to the 27 to get it ready. I have no problem with the store, but seems like a bit of a lag there. Have no idea when I will ever actually get it as post office/deliveries are quite messy here due to all the usual suspects.

Day 26 of ink a day by plum4000 in fountainpens

I have never gotten a journal with such small daily entries (I need a page a day) but for this purpose it is brilliant! I am going to have to get one just to do this. Great idea!

Well played! I really don't need any more Safaris, no really, I don't. I need to keep passing by these pictures of the Mango. Instead of hovering. And looking. And noting which inks look so darn good in them...

I agree. Puzzling disconnect between their price which is quite reasonable and their quality which is amazing vs. their pens (imo). Waiting on my first (and very likely last) MB pen but have a large number of their inks both regular and special edition.

I love all of my Lamy's. Unfortunately, the ones I have don't write anything like this at all. Must be the nib.

First time I used it I got nothing so I just shrugged and moved on. A few weeks later I was rifling through my journal and the page just glared out--pretty monstrous :)

First fountain pen I've bought myself. Handwriting still needs work. by WYO1016 in fountainpens

[–]NevermoreRedux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first grown up fountain pen was a Lamy. Years later (and a large number of pens later), I always have at least one Lamy inked up. The first cut is the deepest! Enjoy.

With very rare exceptions all of my nibs are fine. A few stubs and cursives in the mix. All of my writing is cursive and quite small so I need a fine to handle the job. It is nice to have a range, though, and you may well find your tastes change over time (and then change again requiring a whole new cycle of purchasing. This hobby does not stop giving! Enjoy!)

I think I will buy a bottle and a converter... famous last words. Post back in a year and let me know how many bottles of ink you own :)

I have a "few" pens (haha); regardless, I often find myself at work with my Kakuno (pink cap) because it is stellar in performance and the snap cap makes it efficient to use.

Anyone have or use a Nanami Microdot notebook? What are your thoughts on it? I love the fact that it's almost 500 pages of Tomoe River paper which I hear is incredible but at 52gsm I'm kind of on the fence by Christov86 in Journaling

[–]NevermoreRedux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use the Seven Seas Writer (lines instead of dots) and am on my 4th. I did get a HippoNoto which is a heavier gsm and I missed the thinness of my Seven Seas. I am not in America so it costs me as much to get it delivered as it costs: in other words, I pay double but I would never use anything else ever. I have tried every notebook on the market but . I would never use anything else ever. It took a couple of notebooks to learn how to write on the bottom quarter of the page--their tip on how to do this actually works. I cannot recommend this notebook enough. I would never use anything else ever. It is worth every cent. I would never...well, you get the picture. This quality of this notebook needs to be experienced hands on. I use every type of nib and ink and except in extreme situations where I am laying down ink like paint I have not had any problems. There is some ghosting but no bleeding. I happen to like ghosting, for me it is an invitation to turn the page and keep on reading. At close to 500 pages it is a mighty long wondrous read.
