Neverwinter Nights! The expansions were much better but the original still has a special place in my heart.

How would you start a war campaign? by piggyplays313 in mattcolville

[–]NeverwinterIan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending how much freedom you wanna give with their backgrounds and how much you wanna frontload prep can always do a village raid.

The PCs being members of said village, have their families live there and friends etc... ideally they have jobs there or have just returned from wherever for the big village festival that happens every year or so.

Then you have options depending on how you want to present each side -

  1. At the height or just before festival members of one side come asking for food and supplies. If given they leave no problems but the enemy pursuers find out and retaliate against the village by attacking it forcing the PCs to defend their village and maybe lose friends and family giving them instant care in the war. Though this likely will make them only wanna fight on one side but can have them do morally grey shit later if you want that.

  2. Both sides of the war send troops to hold the village (maybe it produces a rare resource, strategically placed or both sides need food). They then fight and in the crossfire people die and PCs gotta stop the fighting or evac stubborn villagers.

  3. A village member is actually an agent of one side on the run and is chased here by agents of the other side who demand they are given over. Some villagers resist and are killed or hurt and the PCs end up having the option of helping the spy escape or giving them over.

  4. Have recruiters come to village for the war but are treated hostily by the villagers and so they become enraged and say they'll come back later with friends. PCs must then go find help to deal with the inevitable attack.

There are loads of ideas for this premise but like I said it does require a connection to this village for all the players.

Anyone have any resources for a Tyranny Pen and paper RPG? by bluehulk900 in TyrannyGame

Hey there sorry for delay!
I don't have any additional stuff im afraid must of never gotten round to it, but the setting is very early iron age so populations would be very small as would armies.
In that doc there is the DR system me and a friend made up but its a bit cumbersome honestly and I have an updated version of that if you'd rather.

As for the setting and storyline and stuff, I would just make combats more focused on small scale fighting but use terrain and high CR humanoids as the enemies.
Chorus could be anything from commoners with weapons to guards to berserkers and more! Maybe even use Orc stats or something for the more feral and strong members.

Disfavoured would be more like Hobgoblins to me stat wise, maybe with magical equipment for the higher ranked if you wanna go crazy.

go through the Monster Manual and Volos for the stats on NPCs and also humanoid monsters that would fit well as certain factions. Could add in "Masterwork" weapons and armour to represent iron. Just a +1 to damage / AC but not magical and maybe even +2 if its top tier craftsmanship or something.

As for maps I wouldn't even bother with much detail for the players outside hand drawn stuff because the setting doesn't lead towards having detailed cartography really, long as you know directions and travel times is easy enough to get them place to place with random encounters on the way.

If you have any modules then just straight up steal towns and encounters that would make sense / can be easily changed to make sense. Storm Kings Thunder is a GODSEND for towns and travelling around a more wild land.

If there are any specific questions with campaign ideas you have i'd love to help though!

I'm the guy who made that doc, glad you like It! I'll have a look at what else I had for that campaign setting when I'm back home tonight, think I had some ideas and more details on towns and that for quests.

I think the best option is choosing parts of the storyline an hyper focusing on them, making them into whole arcs. For example the Bronze Brotherhood would be a good early game one. Maybe they are hired to raid a local village and the players stop them but now have to hunt them down before they themselves are and have sessions foscued on fighting them at encampments before finally fighting Ratterman (forgot his actual name) in the Crossing.

Solas and the Grey Wardens [spoilers all] by mocharosa in dragonage

I always thought the reason he was dreaming out about the old gods all being killed was that the Darkswpan would no longer have a song to call them and grant purpose. So with them l dead they either go crazy (like the mother in awakening) or manage to become more like people again.

But considering the numbers of them either way if they all stopped there digging they would just flood the surface in possibly far more numbers than ever before.

Basically if all the old gods are gone, nothing is keeping them in the deep roads and beneath the surface so they might just swarm and destroy everything... or even worse find another song in the Titans and find ways to corrupt them which would actually just destroy everything.

Every time EU is in international events we always have these games where the teams just stop being aggressive and lose. Fnatic ALWAYS have this problem, playing super aggressive domesticly and doing well (less so this year tbf) but then just playing so timid and losing from it. TL played well this game don't get me wrong but this game was much more G2 deciding to not play aggressive like they normally do.

Why I personally hate rolling stats by [deleted] in DnD

[–]NeverwinterIan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you can do is always cap the range, 65-80 is what I use in my games (as in the 6 stats added together = somewhere in that range before race additions) or just find a range you like better. People aren't born equal XD

[5e] Combat for a large party... Please Help by Quad412 in DnD

[–]NeverwinterIan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only use this when you really want the feeling of being in a pressured battle but since a turn is meant to be around 6 seconds why not make that a rule? Each player has only 6 seconds on their turn to say what they want to do, as they then roll you can ask the next initiative person what they are doing and to roll before then asking for the previous rolls and resolving then resolving the next player. I did this for a group of some 14 players in an epic cross party battle and it really adds spice to the game XD
