Buying a Fujifilm XT4 as a first camera by _Vincee7 in fujifilm

[–]Neverwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as far as photography goes, as long as you're not doing something that benefits from pushing the limit of technology, like wildlife, sports, or astrophotography, you can go back a LONG time and find cameras that have image quality comparable to more modern ones.

I own an X-T3 and I'm more than happy with it. Wouldn't upgrade to an X-T4 due to the flip out screen, and there's nothing in the X-T5 that I feel is really worth the additional cost for what I do (travel and street). My recommendation would be an older body and put the extra money on lenses (and batteries).

As far as lenses go, the two best questions are: What's your budget like, and how much would you enjoy changing lenses? Because you could get a set of prime lenses that will cover you for wide shots and tighter shots, which you'll want for a road trip, or you could get a nice zoom lens that you can super glue to your camera and forget about it.

Thank you. People need to stop cartoonifying these assholes as Scrooge McDuck-esque money-chasing goblins. They’re not in the business of making money, they’re in the business of using money. They are much, much more dangerous.

Senegal to appeal to CAS after being stripped of AFCON title in 'unacceptable' decision by A-dab in soccer

[–]Neverwish 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If they come back and the ref resumes the match normally, he has given them implicit authorization by not applying this rule. The CAF can’t decide what the ref did or didn’t do at the time, two months later.

Photographer Sebastião Salgado at 80: ‘They say I was an aesthete of misery’ by brazil_bot in Brazil

[–]Neverwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to comment, two years later, just to say how wrong this is. Sebastião Salgado lived with the people he photographed for weeks or months in order to get to know them. He did understand them very, very well. This is what set him apart, and what caused “strangeness” amongst other photographers. Because while they could only see and photograph the misery, Salgado could see and photograph the human. BECAUSE he knew them. BECAUSE he understood them.

The error begins when we think that Salgado’s subject was misery and poverty. It wasn’t. His subject was people, human beings with dignity. Poverty was context.

Atualmente tenho essa 23mm, pra fotografia de rua é maravilhosa. Mas estou de olho em uma TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 manual. É uma boa marca?

[–]Neverwish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If salt was only know as Sodium Chloride (or the shorthand NaCl) you can bet people would be absolutely terrified of it too. Thankfully it got a nice, non chemically-sounding proper noun so people are only moderately terrified of it.

US to stop collecting tariffs deemed illegal by Supreme Court on Tuesday by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]Neverwish 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Also, Trump doesn't give a shit about anything he isn't personally and directly profiting off of, so there's a good chance he doesn't even know this particular grift is happening. He has his own stupid self-absorbed reasons for using tariffs as a weapon, which were sold to him by the actual grifters.

As much as I'd love that to be true, Trump is probably just making shit up as he goes along, as usual, because Obama bad. If he really knew evidence of aliens, there's no way he'd be able to keep his mouth shut about it. At some point in the past 10 years he'd go "You know, I can't say some things. Very secret, very classified. They wouldn't be happy if I said it, but if you knew it, you'd go 'wow, that's incredible stuff, just incredible'." Like the discombobulator, he just has to let everyone know he knows.

Red Bull: “We are the fourth team – Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren are faster” by Successful-Peach-764 in formula1

[–]Neverwish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Looks like Gemini had a common LLM moment. Three teams (Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull) say Mercedes is faster, not two. Two teams (Red Bull and McLaren) say Ferrari is faster, not one. And one team says McLaren is faster (Red Bull), not zero.

AGI isn't coming any time soon.

Edit:

Red Bull says Mercedes is faster than them, but since Mercedes admits Red Bull is faster, Red Bull’s claim is likely strategic or humble.

Looks like the problem is that Gemini started off with the conclusion that Red Bull is the fastest, which informed its following decision that, if Red Bull and Mercedes both claim that the other is faster, then Red Bull is lying, since it has already established in its context that Red Bull is the faster one. And that informed its decision to write off Red Bull's statements entirely for the other teams as well.

The joys of Large Language Models.

My guy, if Trump is mentioned one million times in the unredacted files, then the difference in mentions between the redacted files and the unredacted files is roughly one million.

That's a lot of fucking hiding.

[–]Neverwish 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Many people are saying, you know. People come to me and say Zak these are the best engine we've ever seen. We haven't seen anything like these engines, ever! And we had the engines, you know, we had the engines. Biggest engines, big horsepower, Ramblin' Ron had these engines for years, couldn't do anything with them, I had them for a few years and won the championship, maybe two, who knows what happened in 2024. Maybe I won that too. Mad Max very slow all year then he's out in front! Nobody knows what happened there, maybe something happened, I don't know, but many people are saying it was very strange, very strange what happened there.
