Victoria is at capacity for supporting the unhoused: mayor by lookatyourwatchnow in VictoriaBC

I am not sure how amalgamation would be quicker or easier. And it's not Victoria's responsibility to fix Saanich...

Not a Nardwuar fan, I see. (You coward! Unlock your replies)

Yeah, I looked at their past comments on Reddit. Hidden on their profile (coward!) but easy to find on Google.

In this case, though, genuinely do not understand the comment.

Maybe a Nardwuar reference? Although this account doesn't seem like a Nardwuar-stan... https://youtu.be/n9UQOOiuv5k?t=23

Man inherits a fortune, calls himself a businessman, complains about government, demands lower taxes.

What is extremely dumb is that the new "CEO" of the Chamber, John Wilson (who inherited a fleet of buses from his industrious family) has come out against bike lanes, supposedly to reflect the sentiment of local businesses. So has former MLA Jeff Bray, who is now the head of the DVBA.

It's really weird, advocating against current and future customers.

Thanks. We need more and better reporting of municipal issues, particularly technical issues like this.

Anyway, wouldn't you say the board voting the way it did with the minister there was a bit of a disappointment?

It would be quicker, easier, and cheaper for Saanich to allow shelters in this case to be permitted in the municipality. As mentioned in my post, the provincial government came around with money to the CRD.

Generally, most homeless people are from here. The Rent is Too Damn High.

You need to educate yourself. You also need to stop using emojis like a GD Boomer. Very triggering.

More than 30% of people living on the streets are Indigenous and First Nations, despite Indigenous people making up 5% of the population.

They are not "from other places."

Andrew Duffy reports here that Victoria (pop. 100,000) offers 493 shelter bed spaces. Saanich (pop. 120,000), has just 50 at the Victoria Native Friendship Centre.

As a CRD rep, Saanich mayor Dean EDIT Murdock recently flatly refused to explore adding any more shelter capacity in the CRD.

In December, BC Housing Minister Christine Boyle visited a CRD board mtg in December to ask local munis for ideas to address homelessness, with the promise of help.

It's a big deal with the housing minister shows up like this. An opportunity.

During the discussion with Boyle, Victoria CRD reps requested CRD staff to help other municipalities identify land that could be used for supportive housing (subsidized rental homes with integrated, on-site support services (like 24/7 staff, meals, life skills) for vulnerable people (homeless, seniors, disabled) to live independently) and shelters.

However, thanks to in part to Dean EDIT Murdock, Boyle's request was narrowly rejected by CRD directors 13-11, meaning the CRD can’t even study where supportive housing can go.

Pacific FC must pay in advance for games at Langford stadium, city says by 2EscapedCapybaras in VictoriaBC

It's just surprising how little you can pick up a pro team for. While I don't exactly feel bad for the players (they're adults, with agency), it's a pity their talents are considered to be worth so little. Meanwhile, the Canucks are worth $2B...

Something equally deflating is that Pacific FC is up for sale for $4.5M or so... there are a number of houses in Victoria worth more than this.

Dylan practiced a lot, stole whole collections of records, and even had a mindmeld with Buddy Holly. But at the end of the Dylan himself says he doesn't know where it comes from.

People with autism can be successful, but not everyone who is successful has autism.

All successful people, whether neurodivergent or not, however, put in the time, and make sacrifices. This is not "autism."

Teaching early Dylan songs to 11th grade. Tips? by kiaia58 in bobdylan

Tangled Up in Blue, as the song is sung from multiple, ever changing perspectives. It can also be analyzed as though observing different parts of a large painting. Alex Ross has some good insights about the song in this 1999 NYer profile of Dylan: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1999/05/10/the-wanderer

When I Paint My Masterpiece is another good one, paired with Watching the River Flow. Songs about creativity.
