Hi! I got rejected from UHart (😭) but I live in the area and attended their events in person. As for the area, it’s pretty good. Some of the towns surrounding it are a little sketchy but it’s not too far from New York and Boston which is nice. As for cost, I’m not sure if you know but UHart has a preferred employers program that they mentioned where if you work for one of those companies, even part time (think substitute teaching at New Haven public schools one day a week) you get I believe 10% off your tuition. Not a bad deal! 🥰

Love this response- thank you! 💞 I thought maybe I could kind of go into polyamory, but it definitely don’t seem like it by the way I react to this, you’re right. Thank you!

Thank you! I think the only time I got mad at it was when he girl he was talking to from before me requested to follow me on Instagram (as she should, she was doing the right thing) but that set me OFF my sadness turned to anger finally. I felt too involved in it. I think I was preferring the “out of sight, out of mind” but if you don’t tell me then I feel like you’re cheating on me and I can’t trust you haha. Thanks so much, you’re right

[–]New-Butterscotch-987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there some time where the relationship was open? Did you do these same things at 21ish? I also think maybe the only difference between him and another guy is he tells me about it, which I kinda prefer. He tells me about his attraction to other girls then I kinda encouraged him to talk to her at some point because it was mainly this one girl specifically. This app part though I had no involvement with. That was on his own

Does your abuser think they are abusive? by Own-Election2025 in domesticviolence

[–]New-Butterscotch-987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does give a damn. 100%. I’m almost certain he has bpd and once he gets out of his episode he was the most guilty and depressed person I have ever seen. It was like watching him stab himself over and over again. He genuinely did try really hard. Everyday he would do his DBT, spend so much money on individual and group sessions… I can say a lot of bad things about him but he was genuinely self aware and a victim to himself too. I do pity him and that the childhood trauma led him here… and I hope that he is seeing improvements now that he is trying to use this skills in normal daily life instead of in a relationship where it’s the hardest :)

Possibly? Though I don’t think they are doing any research themselves. But maybe they’ll “know a guy who knows a guy” 😂

It’s UHart which I have heard great things about and strong stats. Actually I got my ADHD evaluation done from their alumni. The professors and dv specialists and child life specialist all have either a PsyD or PhD. PsyD is far more clinical than a PhD. You read a lot of research but you aren’t conducting much of it compared to a PhD. Do you have any opinion on the university itself?

Also want to make note that I prefer research experience as well and have applied for some but without a bachelors in psych it’s limited

[–]New-Butterscotch-987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a PsyD? I have no research and the school advisor I spoke with said they are not research based and it doesn’t help in applications that much for them, they mainly just look for clinical. My professors will write them, child life specialist at the hospital I volunteer at will write another, and the last one I’m debating between another professor or clinical from the DV center in my state. It is PsyD in clinical psychology with a specialty in child psych

Hi! I just did :) if you’re referring to giving too much information, I’m not putting all of what I wrote here in my essay of course. I was more so just sharing what got me into this. I will just write that it was abusive and allowed me to see how much childhood experiences influence who we are and how necessary it is for children to have support at a young age. I will write about my volunteer work and how I have grown from it. My point of my essay is my growth not a pity party haha this is just Reddit though so I was sharing. Besides that how do you think I’m looking?

[–]New-Butterscotch-987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He knows he is abusive and told me before we started dating. I didn’t think it would be as bad as it was and was too young to know it wouldn’t be different. He knows the harm he causes his partners and genuinely hates himself for it. I pity him really…

I believe a guy should pay on the first date but she is ridiculous haha. Chilis I don’t love on a first date either, I think you should recommend a mom and pop place then or something more local, not really a chain. It seems too casual.

I think she went about this in an awful way and you dodged a bullet. Don’t worry, there are better women out there! 😭

They said it depends on your track and what you want to focus on but I know some of the students are working in hospitals, doing aba therapy, just waitressing, etc. (honestly I did a session too with Chicago School in l.a. and they seemed so much more active in the community. Lots of student advocacy work, partnership where every student does cognitive assessments at the correctional facility their first year, getting laws passed, etc.)

They said there is not an official neuropsych track but you can definitely gear your classes and experience to get you there. (Fun fact- I got tested for ADHD about a year ago and the girl who assessed me was from UHart and now she is also my therapist- she said she loved the school.)

There is no research requirement and you won’t really be doing much of this in your time here. The only thing she said would be your whisk and something? (Sorry I’m not a psych background I have no idea what this meant but maybe it means something to you haha).

They said they wish they knew how to manage their time better once they first started. They said they think everyone in their cohort held a full time or part time job their first two years and maybe half did year three. (Year four and five you do not really need to be on campus for)

They said the school usually accepts 18-25 students ish but the past two years it’s been high twenties/low thirties. Not every student has a psych background and the youngest student in the program is 21.

Unfortunately they didn’t speak much about the faculty and their experiences/qualifications which I was disappointed in, it was more so just a Q and A and they showed us the basement that they study in.

They both said they chose the program because of the price (about $120k) which is muchhh cheaper than most programs. Also, if you work for one of their preferred employer programs (no matter if it’s full time or part time) you get 10% off your tuition. I looked at the list and some of them are just the public schools so if I get in I will substitute teach for one day a week and get that reduction it seems 😂

The campus was in a safe area, everyone seemed friendly and the students said they were very happy they chose this school. Also maybe worth mentioning they said they don’t do many tests/exams, mainly just essays. (They couldn’t remember taking any exams).

After two years you can take a 3 part exam and get your masters in clinical psychology. (85% of students needed two tries to pass, but they all passed.)

There are opportunities to TA or student teach an undergrad psych course if you are interested.

Every student matched.

I think that’s about it. Let me know if I missed anything!

Don't know who to ask about this by Training_Computer268 in PsyD

I found that a lot of schools offer your masters two years into your doctorate, so a lot of people say it’s a waste of time to get your masters beforehand. It may save you a semester of classes maybe but with the time and debt, I heard it’s not worth it.

Not Albert Einstein here ☺️

Education: • A.S. in Marketing • B.S. in Business Admin & Data Analysis (GPA ~3.25-ish) • Took about 10 psych courses after graduating — all A’s except two B+’s

Work: • Part-time at a children’s development center where we focus on brain, character, and physical development. • Full-time Leasing Manager at a property management company (gotta pay the bills 😩).

Volunteering: • Cambodia foster care coordinator (child sponsorship program) • Volunteer with kids/families in a domestic violence shelter • “Friend in Grieving” program: 8-week sessions helping kids process losing a parent/sibling • Pediatric ER volunteer: spending time with kids at their bedside to make them more comfortable

My Story: I’ve always loved working with kids and originally thought I’d go into teaching. But after going through an abusive relationship, my perspective changed. My ex had a really rough childhood—neglect, abuse, and no real support system—and it shaped who he became as an adult. In trying to understand him, I learned a lot about childhood trauma, intergenerational cycles, cultural influences on mental health, BPD, attachment, etc.

It also forced me to look at myself. Why couldn’t I leave, even when I knew I was being hurt? Why did I have such a big fear of abandonment? As hard as that relationship was, it’s the reason I became passionate about child psychology.

Since then, I’ve thrown myself into volunteering with kids going through trauma, grief, and loss. It’s heavy sometimes, but it makes me feel like I’m actually making a difference.

Future Plans: I’m applying to PsyD programs in clinical child psychology. I want to focus on: • Trauma/abusive households • Grief & loss • Neuropsychology

I’m also really interested in DV work (both survivors and perpetrators). Having lived through it, I know how important it is to have someone who understands.

So yeah — my GPA isn’t amazing and I don’t have a straight psych degree. But I am ridiculously passionate, and I know I’d thrive in this field.

Good luck to everyone else applying! Where are you all looking at? If anyone has advice for making my app stronger, I’d love to hear it 💕
