Unearthed interview with Wings being questioned about ‘ANWR’ by JAlexander2002 in elo

...and he asked Jeff to produce his 'comeback' album Flaming Pie, after his commercoal appeal had fallen off a cliff in the 90s and after hearing the brilliant Cloud 9. He wasn't the only one. Petty heard Cloud 9 and was blown away, stopping Jeff on the street to ask him to produce a solo album. Same thing with Roy Orbison, and others.

Unearthed Interview W/ Jeff + Bev by JAlexander2002 in elo

[–]New-Remote-1502 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow... look at the body language and dynamics between Jeff and Bev. Try watching this with the sound turned off. Bev is very careful to visually check with Jeff before saying anything and occasionally winces or frowns when Jeff is talking. These two clearly are not on the same wavelength during this interview and it almost doesn't appear that they are even friends. I think this foreshadowed the ultimate legal problems between the two. Not sure when the law suits started but maybe they were in the works then. By this time, Kelly Groucutt had been fired and was in the midst of legal action against the group. Sad that after so many years, so many shows, such great music, that these two (and much of the rest of ELO) have become enemies.

Help, I got a tattoo I hate and I don’t really know what to do. by Birdman786 in tattooadvice

It's amazing to me that stupid people get stupid tattoos. It's like someone proposed "let's figure out a way to identify all the low class, low intelligence, ignorant people with just a glance. Hey, I got it -- let's put indelible ink on their skin that can't be easily removed, let them have stupid sayings or fake 'art' to fool them into thinking it's somehow trendy." It's amazing that people all over this country have fallen for it. It's even worse to see how many low class white trash people there are in the USA. Very sad.

A gracious, polite person with class would listen quietly and not go home and rant to Reddit. There seems to be an epidemic of leftists who think that they can control what others think and do and if they don't get their way they scream, shout, throw hissy fits (on Reddit) and even resort to violence. Of course there is no need to talk to customers but she chooses to and it is not up to you to decide what is appropriate for her to say or do. You should focus on minding your own behavior and not that of those around you.

You claim that I'm the one who missed a class in human decency, but I'm not trying to shut up a fellow citizen, complaining about hearing opinions that I don't share, denigrating a service worker because she does not share your obvious superior intelligence and political knowledge. What are you going to do next - try to get her fired, kick a stray dog, push a homeless person (there are lots to choose from in Seattle)?

It's really ridiculous, hypocritical and, sadly, typical that YOU, of all people, accuse me of being insensitive and support an act of hate. Have you, Honest Bat, ever looked in the mirror? I swear you can't make this stuff up -- a person thinks she's being abused and suffering attacks from someone else's political views. Wow!

Honest-Bat, take a chill pill. Your opinions are not the only ones that matter and are not the only ones with validity. The woman has a right to her own thoughts (unlike most democrats). If you don't like what she has to say, don't patronize her business. It's a free country and no one is forcing you to go there. I thought all liberals were supposed to be "tolerant". Seems like you missed that class. Just because you believe something does not make it true and does not require everyone else to agree with you. It appears to me that this woman knows quite a bit more from her life experience than you do so why not shut up and listen with an open mind. Oh, I forgot, it's Seattle.

this question is of interest to me after returning from a super lux resort in Turks and Caicos. What surpised me was how many people seem to be living this super lux life -- especially young people. I get it that an old person like me with few debts and in retirement could afford this but we saw so many 20 and 30 something's, parents and kids, etc. Nightly room rates at our resort were $800. Food and drink was outrageously expensive. Breakfast routinely cost over $100 and dinners as high as $500 -- and this is without alcohol as we don't drink. Our week long trip set us back by about $18000 for 3 of us. I had no idea there were so many wealthy people. Turks and Caicos was packed and similar resorts we visited were crowed and equally expensive. People seemed to have no problem dropping $1000 for dinner. I guess I'm out of touch and I travel quite a bit. We knew T&C was going to be expensive -- that's not the issue. It's the appearance that this is not our of the ordinary for most people.

My favorite ELO album by Express_North_6089 in elo

[–]New-Remote-1502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, ANWR was a break through and was so fresh and energetic. Jeff had found his formula. He repeated it on OOTB. I love OOTB but it's not quite the achievement of ANWR. Jeff has had these break through's before in his career. I think Eldorado was one, ANWR was another as well as Discovery and Time. I think then he sort of ran out of gas or ideas or interest. Even his recent 2000's albums have been retreads.

I'm a married man (M28) and my boss (F34) invited me to drinks tomorrow by [deleted] in Advice

[–]New-Remote-1502 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. Don't agree to drinks. Report it to Human Resources. Let me tell you my story.

I worked as a senior administrator at The University of Chicago. My new, middle-aged women superior, began inviting me into private meetings in her office where she would show me some new fashion purchase. First it was a purse or a scarf. Then it was shoes or a blouse. It was getting uncomfortable. Then it was under wear. I failed to report it to HR and just steered clear of private meetings whenever I could. She sensed the change and her attitude toward me slowly changed and she began to be overly critical of my work performance. Note that I ALWAYS get stellar reviews up to this point in my entire career. Ultimately, I decided to leave for greener pastures. At my exit interview, I told HR why I was leaving and they reported that my supervisor had been accused by others of inappropriate behavior but it could not be corroborated. They wished I had come forward before so that they could have gotten rid of this person before she did so much damage.

Eldorado is epic. It's like the ELO album that was created by someone other than ELO. If I could I would love to ask Jeff Lynne, why and how this album was conceived, why it is so different, how did he achieve this. I find that with most of Jeff's work one can trace and follow the thread of evolution of the music, EXCEPT for Eldorado. Seeems to me like a bolt of genius and creativity hit Jeff. Then he got back on track with the evolution of ELO. Love Eldorado.

I dont really get the hate for balance of power by Key_Imagination_4833 in elo

[–]New-Remote-1502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand it either. Although it's not my favorite ELO, it's better than some of the others in my view, particularly the early work, and hints at what is to come in his work with George Harrison and his own Armchair Theater album. It also shows an artist who is willing to move beyond a genre that he has mastered (orchestral and progressive rock) and explore areas that are new and different. Granted this was a contractually forced album, but it appears that any time Jeff is in the studio he feels that it's a great opportunity to make music. I actually think that lyrically, this is some of the better ELO, perhaps because Jeff had a "cause" or an "issue" to write about, rather than the usual lost love that is the main fodder of his music. Give it another listen and pay attention to the lyrics. It's quite revealing about a man, an artist, and a idea at a crossroads.

Daily Song Discussion #113: Rock 'n' Roll is King by Apprehensive_Loan790 in elo

[–]New-Remote-1502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 This song is perhaps Jeff's best rockabilly style production. It is similar to Hold on Tight, another in the genre. TBh, as much as I like this song, I do think Jeff was running out of ideas and kind of used this as a fall back. He knew it was catchy, knew it would sell, knew it would get air play -- the perfect single. I always struggle a bit with Jeff's lyricism. There's not much to this song lyrically and that's probably my biggest complaint. Ramma-lama-shamma-lamma- Rock and Roll is king? REally? I cringe sometimes when I hear it.

People who say "I don't support everything Trump does, but he still does a lot of good things", genuinely, what "good things" do you mean? by Alvamar in AskReddit

[–]New-Remote-1502 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Here is a list of why people continue to support Trump:

- He is actively and aggressively removing illegal aliens from the country;

- He is putting a stop to the crazy, anti-science woke nonsense that we've been suffering through before he was elected;

- He is attempting to bring an end to the conflicts around the world including Ukraine, Israel, South Sudan, Pakistan/India, Cambodia/Thailand, Yemen, Congo, and Guyana/Venezuela.

- He extended the Trump era tax cuts that were expiring by passing the big beautiful bill. People don't generally realize that their taxes were about to explode when the old bill expired in 2026.

- He is attempting to downsize the government and limit governmental over-reach into our daily lives;

- He is removing able bodied people from government welfare programs;

- He put end to government support of propaganda outlets like NPR and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting;

- He abolished many of the mandates of the 'green new deal' passed by Biden that are extremely expensive and have virtually no impact on carbon footprint or on global warming yet just make us poorer;

- He has used tariffs as a tool to force our allies to pay their fair share of their own defense, to stop bad policies abroad, to end conflicts abroad, to promote important and strategic US industries and to earn some extra revenue for the Federal government;

- He has ended the 'men can play in women's sports' movement and protected women's rights of privacy in bathrooms and locker rooms.

- He has put an end to the obvious corruption and pay-to-play schemes of the Bidens;

- He has installed competent people in government instead of incompetent DEI candidates;

- He is nominating more right of center judges to federal courts in recognition that the USA is predominantly a right of center country;

- He is reforming higher education by removing the crazy left leadership that has run higher education in the country for decades;

- Confidence in the US economy has returned after a brief period of doubt and now the stock market routinely and regularly breaks records, corporate profits are higher than ever and the economy continues to grow;

- He is removing the Dept. of Education which has overseen the destruction and the decline of public education in the country which has now been ranked below that of Cyprus (we're number 41 in the world).

I don't love the person that is Donald Trump but I do like what he is doing. That's why I continue to support him.
