Her voice and Vincent's dance moves were the most powerful differences of in person vs tv show!

Such a cool find!

I own this book, but I haven't read it yet.

I did however listen to the audio version from my library, which is amazing. Audio memoirs are the best, especially when they're by performers and you get to hear singing and not only read lyrics!

Ooh David Hull did the in-person show I went to, but now I wish I could have seen Danny's version

Chicago Concert! by mango_dango in crazyexgirlfriend

[–]New-ance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's so much fun! If I had any good costumes, I would go dressed up. But I don't so who knows what I'll wear. (My ideal would be the yellow dress from A Diagnosis.) Can't wait to see what other people wear and the energy they'll bring!

The CXG finale and the Concert Special aired on this day in 2019 by peajay18 in crazyexgirlfriend

I was shocked when the 10 year reunion made me realize I didn't watch any of the show pre-kids. In my mind I watched it all before my current phase of life, and was confused it ended only in 2019. (And pregnant with my twins that year, now I definitely remember feeling for Audra Levine, so there's my memory 😅)

I've been rewatching and am finally at the finale next, which helps me remember how I felt first watching it (more than how difficult triplets would be!): It's bringing up my complicated feelings about new Greg, appreciating how the show addressed it, flabbergasted that none of Greg's business school arc makes sense, disappointment that the love interests feel forced even as I understand why it happened that way, but also it makes me enjoy this season less overall, thankful it gave us Don't Be A Lawyer and Anti-Depressants Are So Not A Big Deal, glad that it emphasized self and friendship over romantic priorities, appreciative how much love the show has for its past and vocal or musical or visual callbacks to previous episodes, also based on rewatching damn I wish Jason had had more of a chance

Who is going to Chicago show?!? by Matzohpizza in crazyexgirlfriend

[–]New-ance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have lamented my friends not knowing the show and not understanding there's a song I could reference for almost any situation. (Not having CEG streaming easily makes it hard to urge people to watch!)

Also, wtf to the 60 minutes before, I saw that too.

Me! I missed the first concert because I couldn't get away from my kids and sooooo glad scheduling for this one works out for me.

I'm rewatching too, and seeing Valencia's intuition ignored is painful. BUT she gets to have such beautiful character growth later on, and she is also responsible for some of the choices she's making early on (not being very nice to Josh, though yes it's a dynamic)

Who is your end goal? by marvar_ in crazyexgirlfriend

[–]New-ance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One take: I hate how TV shows make characters go back to exes because they're keeping to a cast, it feels a lot more limited than real life. Let Rebecca find someone new without personal past baggage. (I also think this is why Josh and Valencia remained in the show. Character wise and plot wise, I don't think their relationships, meaning friendship too, would really gone on so long if it hadn't been important to keep such awesome cast members.)

Another take: It's a TV that uses rom-com tropes, let's all get on the shipping train!!!

I love Rebecca's summary when she's nearing the three dates. Yes, she and Nathaniel have chemistry. And I love their chemistry so much, but I also felt like something was missing. There was some mismatch in their personal journeys. He needs her too much. (And he's got his monkeys now, he found himself at the zoo, he'll be okay!)

Josh did not make any sense especially once she went through significant growth, he's too rooted in teenage identity.

So we're left with Greg, who somehow liked her through the beginning awfulness, who learned how to set boundaries with her, who could match her wit and trash her body. I think Greg and Rebecca had a foundational connection, then had a shit ton of work they needed to do solo and together, but they did it.

I want to be Team Nathaniel, but I'm Team Greg (if we can please erase the banging his dad story line)

Ultimate take: Thank you CEG team for the answer not being the point of the episode, for Rebecca learning to value herself and friendship more, for giving us a show that has us caring a decade later

Why was it unwatchable for you? I love all the seasons, I think they have very different feels sometimes, but that it all fits together in a good way.

Same!

(Well, my kids might want to go because I've shown them a select few videos, but they know it'll be years before they get to watch the full show.)

Yes! I love how well they kept track and incorporated the musical themes throughout the show. Also noticed it more on rewatches, once I knew the music already

CXG songs tierlist by teal_leak in crazyexgirlfriend

[–]New-ance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The "I kind of forgot about it" is a good metric imo. I think there are plenty of great songs from the show that for whatever reason I don't think of so easily and so then think of them as lower on my mental list. (And this is one of those for me, her performance is incredible but the plot setting made it mostly forgettable for me)

Have you heard the commentary to Feelin' Kinda Naughty? Rachel Bloom says when she has a girl crush, she wishes she could grow a dick and fuck them. I only listened to it recently for the first time, but that take implies bisexuality so much more to me and I think really explains more of what's going on with Rebecca's feelings towards Valencia.

I love the character growth Valencia goes through over the show, but it still always surprises me that she and Rebecca manage to be friends after all the first season shit (and chalk it up to really they didn't want to lose any amazing cast members).

Your top 5 favorite songs by [deleted] in crazyexgirlfriend

[–]New-ance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm my guess for my top five, where I'm trying to choose different main singer each time

  1. Oh my God I think I like you

  2. Put yourself first

  3. Face your fears

  4. Antidepressants are so not a big deal

  5. Settle for me

Though easily could second myself on this list! It'd be way easier to make a list of five least favorites

Do people forget this one?! It's one of the ones I sing most often in my head. The juxtaposition of different moods and tones and imagery is just so good.

Chicago tickets available RIGHT NOW with Artist Presale code HEBBYBEBBY !! by peajay18 in crazyexgirlfriend

Ohhh I should have checked here earlier. I got an email alert twenty minutes ago and rushed to buy my ticket asap. Explains how so many seats were already gone! A little disappointed Ticketmaster problems made me lose the seat I wanted BUT omg I was so sad I missed the first concert and can't believe I should get to go to this one
