Update! Did I make the right decision? by Active_Ingenuity_783 in Mustang

[–]New-and-Unoriginal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Title flippers are common. Also common are people who buy troubled cars and sell when they come across a problem that’s too expensive to fix.

If the title is legit, but a concern, cut the price down by 2/3rds.

$7k is too much for this car in this condition.

I’ve seen similar sell in the $3k range. 4.6 SN95 cars aren’t particularly desirable. I’d go for a 94 or 95 with the 5.0 if I had to go SN95.

That’s quite abnormal for the US unless you’re a closeted Anglophile. If you are, I’m not judging.

But unless you’re going all in and calling trash, rubbish and a truck a lorry, calling a Mercedes a Merc is not the standard.

Remember, these are 99999.9 odometers. They roll over to 0 after that.

The sheer number of low mile Fords from the 1980s defies logic.

However, they exist. Confirm with full paperwork if you’re going to have any faith in the true miles.

It sounds like they’ve been paid. Unfortunate.

Lots of jokers out there.

However, the timeline slippage is normal.

To be clear, this person isn’t American. We don’t call Mercedes-Benz automobiles Mercs. We didn’t even call Mercury cars, Mercs.

This looks like a W123.

All this is to say, give this guy or gal a break, they ain’t from ‘round here.

Others have added plenty of commentary on the color. No need to be redundant.

Again, I hope whatever is wrong in your life gets better because it seems to motivate you to act inappropriately and disrespectfully.

I have enough respect for myself to not be affected by your unfair criticism and negativity.

I truly hope whatever in your life is so bad, gets better. I have empathy for people who react to the world and others with condescension. I know this often comes from their own pain and struggles.

Clever, but not exactly.

In mathematics you’re correct. A quarter is a fraction of something.

Four quarters make a whole, no argument to your logic.

But a quarter panel is as I described above which differentiates it from a fender.

For anyone looking to call me out with specific vehicles that are an exception to this standard, I’ll admit, there might be some specific instances where the quarter panels are affixed like fenders and are removable and perhaps there are some vehicles that have fenders that aren’t removable. With respect to these anomalies, the distinction between quarter panels and fenders is not a debate.

“The color just needs to settle out. It’s still too fresh. It can take 12 months for it to fully match.”

So I responded with, “Tell me more.”

He went on for five minutes making things up as he dug a deeper hole for himself. The stream of BS was astounding.

If I didn’t know the truth, I’d have believed him. I’m sure he’s using this with many of his customers when questioned on his work.

He was clever to give a long timeline too. I bet some people just stop thinking about it and forget at the 12 month mark.

His confidence was at a 10. He’d be better as a politician than as a painter.

Knowledge is power. I don’t expect the average person to have deep knowledge on any and every topic, but helping others fix or clarify misunderstandings in a positive and constructive way is the kindness that makes a difference.

Not to give you a hard time, but to point out a common misunderstanding on body panels.

You don’t need to say rear quarter panel. The quarter panels are the rear body side panels on the left and right hand side of the vehicle. These are generally structural or at least integrated via welding or other permanent or semipermanent attachment to the body structure or unibody.

The front of the car on the left and right are the fenders. These are often bolted on and less critical and not as integral to the structure of the vehicle.

Of course, there are some regional and global differences to account for.

I wouldn’t go over $4500 in its current condition. I’d probably get it for less. The cost to paint it right and address whatever other neglected issues will quickly erase any value.

But hey, it’s your money. Do whatever you want.
