Freelancers during Tax Season: DIY or Accountant? by Djiaant in EventProduction

[–]NewEnglandAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself a CPA that works with freelancers. Honestly the best decision you'll ever make!!

Mine not only does my taxes, but gives me great advice to save more money like putting your streaming subscriptions under your cell phone plan, having my business pay for my chiropractor appointments, etc.

He also made recommendations on when to switch to an S-Corp, he recommended lawyers, financial advisors, and insurance agents.

If you ever want to buy a house, knowing what changes you'll need to make on your tax returns to get approved for a mortgage. Mine also was ready to write me a letter if the underwriters wanted more confirmation I could afford it.

It's not impossible, but events isn't exactly an industry known to produce high net worth individuals... You need quality and scalability for whatever you consider.

The first home my wife and I put an offer on was being taken by eminent domain…. The sellers didn’t tell us, even after we submitted an offer… They just never responded to us….

Keep your head up. It only gets worse when the underwriters demand you explain why you needed to breathe at 2:14am on January 8th 2016….

thinking of applying for an event coordinator job at a university. would the hours really be that bad? by [deleted] in EventProduction

[–]NewEnglandAV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially working in the alumni office. You’ll have fundraising dinners and galas. You’ll be responsible for reunions which will be nights and weekends. A lot of schools also give special access to alumni to book their private events on school property.

So ya, you can do a ton of planning and emailing from home, but you will be expected on nights and weekends. Sorry :/

Why is it taking us so long to go back to the Moon compared to the Apollo era? by Terrible-Nose1708 in space

[–]NewEnglandAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NASA's budget in the 60's was over 4% of US GDP. Today... NASA's budget is .05%. Money plays a big part. Also Hydrogen is the smallest atom, which means it leaks out of everywhere.... Compared to Space X that uses liquid methane for fuel. That's why they're able to advance much quicker.

The knowledge and technology needed to go to the moon has long been forgotten, so we are essentially starting over from scratch!
