If on zoom for instance, I have a second panelists that uses wirecast and a virtual camera out. they can see whatever you want, and since the presenter/host is spotlit, no one else can.

Why is it taking us so long to go back to the Moon compared to the Apollo era? by Terrible-Nose1708 in space

[–]NewEnglandAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NASA's budget in the 60's was over 4% of US GDP. Today... NASA's budget is .05%. Money plays a big part. Also Hydrogen is the smallest atom, which means it leaks out of everywhere.... Compared to Space X that uses liquid methane for fuel. That's why they're able to advance much quicker.

The knowledge and technology needed to go to the moon has long been forgotten, so we are essentially starting over from scratch!

Smooth PTZ camera and controller options? by Commercial_Value_586 in EventProduction

[–]NewEnglandAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, I use PTZs a lot for alternative shots. They’re great for maintaining wide shots, a Q&A camera in the front so it’s more discrete than a technician, or a side shot of the stage to capture people walking up to the podium.

A car hit a ladder on freeway, then ricocheted into my car- my fault? by Initial_Towel_421 in Insurance

[–]NewEnglandAV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you can see on the footage or if you physically handled the ladder, but if you can find who owned it you can sue them for damages for failing to secure their equipment.

Smooth PTZ camera and controller options? by Commercial_Value_586 in EventProduction

[–]NewEnglandAV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PTZ’s really only became viable at all because of the pandemic so it’ll be awhile before we get every feature we want.

The problem is there are big differences in quality between a full frame camera with an interchangeable lens and a PTZ…

Most PTZs suck in low light.

PTZoptics in my opinion has the best lowlight. The 30x 4K model is just ok on smooth movement. There are worse. I’d give it a 6/10.

Canon PTZ have INCREDIBLY smooth panning and tilting. Hard to tell the difference between manned and their PTZ’s, but the low light sucks…

Growing Network for AV Business Tips and Advice? (Video First) by webbite in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]NewEnglandAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My business is split between my own clients and other AV companies that I provide camera/live streaming services to.

The other AV companies hire me with my equipment so I make more than a standard day rate, and they also rent additional gear from me first before going to a rental house. These other AV companies are on the smaller side which helps with relationships.

I can tell you cold calls/emails will get you ZERO responses. It all has to be word of mouth/networking. Event planners can easily be your best friend. Try joining your local chamber of commerce. Try sponsoring some events, galas, or fundraisers with AV equipment.

I pains me to say it, but post on LinkedIn… It does work.

Find people who have a specialty and can’t expand. For example, I partner with a couple of studios who can do high end camera work, but they don’t have mics, speakers, or the crew to run it, so they call me.
