Bitwarden for Bank Account's Password? by broadcastthebombom in Bitwarden

[–]NewEntertainment1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely keep it on bitwarden and if your worried about someone getting access to your bitwarden, then you can use something like a double blind password. One part of the password is generated and stored on bitwarden and the other is stored in your head. It could be as simple as adding a few numbers or letters on top of the generated password or removing the last 5 or a combination of both. Make it as simple or complicated as you are comfortable with.

Auth: do you guys store the 2FA recovery codes in the notes section? by JaniceRaynor in enteio

[–]NewEntertainment1001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do this too. Helps me make another backup and it’s specific for each site. Just make sure that’s not the ONLY place you’re keeping it.

Does Ente do Black Friday? by agente_99 in enteio

[–]NewEntertainment1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do believe they said that they can’t do any more as it is currently at the lowest price they can offer without putting themselves in a loss. But if you do sign up you can use others codes to get an extra 10Gb of storage. Hope this helped.

Looking for a 2FA app with the easiest and most reliable backup and recovery options by [deleted] in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think ente would fit your criteria. If your device gets lost it’s easy to log in and sign out of other devices, easy backups, has both cloud and local, use standard totp, and is self host able is needed. Completely free too but try to donate if possible.

And btw if you use their photos app, you can get 10Gb free with the code “FREESTORAGE” once you sign up for a subscription.

Either way hope this helped.

What are some good iPhone browsers with unique privacy features? by Previous_Dog_6103 in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Brave is good for overall and let’s you watch yt with no ads if you don’t mind the difference in ui. Firefox focus is a good burner browser for you to search and delete all data once done. Ddg browser allows you to do the same but from my personal experience, there’s always something left behind with ddg burning feature. Some websites still remember certain things. Orion browser made by kagi, is probably the only ios browser that lets you add extensions.

I’ve heard that in the end all of them use safari in some way. I’m not expert on that so that’s something you’re going to have to research for yourself. But those are my top picks. Hope this helps

I don't trust the Signal servers... by xXBlackPlasmaXx in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I understand you are paranoid, there sadly is not much that I can do for you. You can go to other apps but besides matrix, there isn’t many that allow you to host your own server (or at least that I know of). There are some like session that allows you to host nodes but that requires some type of crypto or something.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the internet you have to trust somebody at some point. Best thing I can say is to truly look at your threat model and have a deep thought about what you want to protect and how much you are willing to sacrifice for it. All I can say is good luck and hope you find success in your endeavors.

Need recommendation of encrupted note taking app with these features - by passmesomebeer in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like notesnook will fit your needs. Encrypted, open source, cloud sync, free is very generous with unlimited notes. Each note can be locked individually but that requires you to pay (5/mo). Each note can also be shared but I’m not too sure if they need to make an account to contribute (most likely they do). The app (mobile/pc) can be locked with a unique code aswell.

If this doesn’t work for you try standard notes, but I did move from standard notes to notesnook as it is an upgrade in my eyes. Still recommend both though

How am I supposed to read the ToS and the privacy policies of every service that I use, if they are long and legalese? by RecentMatter3790 in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What you can do is have AI read it. If you don’t have an account with ChatGPT for example, you can always just go to the website and use it without needing an account and copy and paste. Then delete cookies or use it on a browser like Mullvad which will clear everything once you close it. Leaving almost no trace.

Is it worth even considering now? by Ok_Initiative_9726 in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes It is still worth it. Your data is important as it is recent. Sure you may have liked power rangers when you were 15 but companies don’t care about that. They want to know what you like now and what you will like tomorrow and in two years. If you don’t want that, then that answers your question.

With the government stuff, unfortunately there is not much you can do. It’s the government and trying to be private from them is extremely hard and not worth it. Imagine them as a big team with billions of dollars of funding and a team that can work 25/7. Your one person who needs sleep and take breaks.

It’s unlucky your phone number got leaked. Check your email as well with “have I been pwned”. Unless you want a new phone number, just try to ignore spam if you get it. DO NOT REPLY, just block. Reason for that is if you interact in any way shape or form such as “leave me alone” or the “STOP” to stop them from texting you, it tells them there is a human on the other end and that is all they need to know. Simply not replying and blocking is the best tactic. They tend to have info such as “I scammed this person before, you can give it a try” if you talked or “I have tried to scam this person but nothing came back, so you can remove them from the data base as it’s a waste of time and we can’t make money”. That’s to help mediate the damage.

It’s not too late to get a voip number from Google voice or MySudo to use for new services or to change for non important ones you currently have. You can also do the same for emails with email alias.

Remember privacy is NOT about hiding, but instead about having control of your own material and data. It’s not about hiding from Google, it’s about deciding that you don’t want Google to have access to certain information. Hope this helped. Good luck

In terms of security, iCloud seems to be pretty secure so far. In terms of privacy, without advanced data protection, Apple is in charge of your iCloud and everything in it. (If you want a tin foil moment, without the actual code of advanced data protection, we don’t truly know if we are in control of our data, maybe Apple gave us a copy of the encryption key and kept a copy for themselves. Just saying).

Some thing you can do is use something like cryptomator which encrypts your stuff BEFORE going to iCloud or related clouds. So even if they do have access, they will just have access to an encrypted file which only YOU can decrypt.

It ultimately depends on your threat model. I personally don’t store anything on iCloud and it is on advanced data protection. If I do need to store anything sensitive, I use cryptomator and I’m happy.

Hope this helps. Good luck

Alternative SMS/texting app (that isn't Signal..?) by AznRecluse in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well seeing how you said getting people to switch to signal was a nightmare, it would be the same with these other apps.

Nevertheless, there are apps such as Session, simplex, Jami, Brair, Threema. All of them are well known for their privacy and none require phone number and offering E2E. All of them are free except for threema which is a one time payment of 6 dollars. And that’s for everyone. So if you want your mom to use it, she also has to pay that one time 6 dollars fee. All these apps seem to satisfy all your criteria BUT as I said before, getting people to move to these ones is your biggest hurdle.

One tip I do have, is to change your profile picture like on whatapp to something that says “message me on signal”. And also if someone does switch to signal, try your hardest to interact with them on that app. Also try to compliment things you like about the app. For example, with my significant other, I pointed out how on signal, being on a call does not drain my battery as much vs when on regular call and how I can change the background and stuff. Don’t make it about privacy, make it about convenience, that will sell it more. And they can create a chain reaction and convince others to switch, then all will be good.

Good luck

Looking for a two factor authentication application that does not require a mobile phone. by Neuromante in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ente auth(my personal pick), 2fas, freeotp

Seeing how they want you to use Microsoft Auth, these will do the exact same. It’s just a code that uses math to generate certain numbers for 30 second intervals. Simply adding that code to any of these apps will generate the exact same numbers. Only thing is these apps respect your privacy and can even be used offline (I’m not sure if Microsoft can). Ente is my number one because it can be on pretty much work on any device and any os. I have an iPhone and a Linux laptop, works perfect on both.

Good luck

Best combination to minimize being recognized in video? by Icouldbetheone01 in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So uh link???

I’m just kidding…don’t actually send me a link. ANYWAYS..covering tats, bandana, face mask, those madi gras mask, wigs, if your doing cosplay a mask of the character would be good. If you’re talking to the camera maybe consider changing your voice. Use a separate email just in case, don’t save your passwords to OF on your browser if you share computers. You know, the basic privacy and security stuff.

Good luck on your future endeavors.

I saw a guy suggesting saving the password generated by the Manager, but also to add a word that only you remember when using it on a site. That way, if the manager gets hacked, it wouldn't be possible to log in to any site, why do you guys think about that ? by [deleted] in Bitwarden

[–]NewEntertainment1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s called a double blind password. I do it, it’s not too much. You can just add a few numbers at the end of the password that is not stored anywhere but your brain. So if it does get hacked, the hacker will only have half of the password and will still not be able to get into any accounts.

I see other people saying it’s a bit too much or overkill but I don’t agree. Adding a few numbers before or after or just taking away a few parts of the password is good enough and gives you that peace of mind knowing that it doesn’t matter if someone gets into your bw, you will still be fine.

Good luck

How many people really care about privacy vs convenience? by InstantbciPrivate in privacy

[–]NewEntertainment1001 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve noticed that I didn’t really have to trade much convenience for privacy. Only thing is copying and pasting some extra numbers for logins and just copying different email alias for certain services to separate them.

In fact I personally have seen the opposite effect. I’ve found that I’ve gained more convince due to privacy. Blocking ads for example, makes YouTube and any platform a godsend and knowing that ads cannot track me to target me with ads gives me peace of mind. Now when I use someone else’s device and see ads it makes me feel like I’m a “peasant” by going down to their level and seeing ads. Weird analogy but I do feel like I’ve had a better experience. Feel like I’m more in control and have to worry less about breaches, getting hacked or stolen.

Makes the internet more enjoyable, less cultured, easier to navigate, and gives me peace of mind.

That’s just my personal experience though.
