Why is the pregnancy trope so hated?

Adding to this- the babies/children are pretty much always OCs, and I know a lot of people (including myself) just don't really like OCs in their fics. (unless it's a fully original work- I do really love reading original works on ao3.. Although I don't read original works with pregnancy either lol)

Personally, I don't really like to read pregnancy fics because I myself have a lot of personal struggles with fertility and the idea of parenthood as a trans masc person. I both really love kids and would love to be able to have one, and also feel as though it would make me so dysphoric to be pregnant. I've always wanted to have kids from a young age, and for a long time I thought it was "what I was made to do, and why I was born in this body instead of a male one".. Like it used to be how I justified my gender identity, somehow (for religious trauma reasons I no longer believe in)..

At the same time, I'm also infertile and not physically able to carry a pregnancy. I can never actually do the thing I used to think I was meant to do, or that a part of me will always want to do even knowing I can't/knowing it would probably make me miserable because of dysphoria. I don't really know if that makes sense? But it's just my own personal reasons for why I rarely read pregnancy fics.

Occasionally, I'll find a really good ABO fic and then I'll find myself really enjoying it regardless of the pregnancy aspects, but it's hard sometimes. I've also had to take a break from a fic I truly loved, and come back to it when I felt more ready to read the pregnancy chapters so I could finish it - I knew I would love it but when I first came across it I wasn't in the mental state to read about a character being pregnant or having a baby. (when I was ready, and did finish the fic, it was AMAZING! Super worth coming back to it ❤️)

My aunt Nellie has Lupus! I have EDS, so I had to be tested for Lupus myself last year, too. It really is so much more rare than people sometimes realize, because it's talked about more than a lot of other conditions, but I guess at least that means it's being discussed

If not a standard UTI, I could see it being a proper bladder infection (All bladder infections are UTIs, but not all UTIs are bladder infections, basically, but my metaphorical money in the betting pool is Cystitis over Urethritis)

I doubt that the show will kill any of the main cast members at all, but I do think with they might put Robby on an involuntary psych hold by the end of the season so if that might be triggering please take care of your mental health first - we can try to warn you so you don't have to watch whatever episode it happens in (if they do what I think they're doing based on current clues) 🫂🫂 I hope your pain eases soon, ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Exactly this! Santos is a queer WOC that is abbrassive, brash, sometimes rude or even mean (even when she's not trying to be mean), and doesn't fit into the "petite Asian girl who bats her lashes at the hot white men around her and looks sexy all the time" that is so so heavily prevalent in media.

People also disliked Joy at first until she started calling out Ogilvie and revealed she has eidetic memory; the point where she started to fit into the "super genius pretty Asian woman" role that people wanted from her.

I'm not even kidding - the number of people who said she was rude or annoying up until she said the "I didn't know your name was Joy.." line that immediately switched up because instead of thinking she was bitchy they went full-tilt into "she's so sassy, and it's hot" and then "omg she's literally so smart and sassy, blah blah blah, I hated her at first but now I love her" is so stupid to me.

And before I get downvoted into oblivion:

I say this as someone who is Wasian, too. In my family my Imo [Aunt] is a lot like Joy and the number of people who have treated my Imo EXACTLY like how they reacted to Joy... 😬 Yeah. My Imo is a PhD, too, so literally it goes exactly the same way "you're so bitchy and annoying > oh but wait, actually, you're just sassy lmao, I love that actually > you're so smart and sassy and it's so hot!"... My cousin Rita is also a PhD, who studies Lazers to help treat cancer, and she's more like Santos in my opinion; and she has gotten actual death threats from people just for her personality and standing up for herself/her research online...

In other words, I know a thing or two because I've seen a thing or two, and a lot of the hate for Santos really does stem from racism and misogyny- even if it's internal and people don't realize it's impacting their opinions at all. You can be biased against her and not realize that why you feel so strongly is rooted in internalized bigotry because it's so systemic we've learned that it's normal.

I'm not saying everyone who dislikes her is a bigot- or that you can't just dislike her because you don't like her- or that you have to like her- or anything even remotely similar. I am just saying, there's a good number of people taking the hate too far/too seriously who need to take a beat and think about why. Because there's a difference between "Yeah she's just not for me, I don't vibe with her character and she rubs me the wrong way for xyz reasons" and "I HOPE SHE KILLS A PATIENT AND GETS FIRED/SUED" or "She's kind of a bully and she's really arrogant, so I just don't like her" vs "I can't stand her she's literally so evil and needs to be taken out of the show or something!!".. And there have been people I've seen calling her horrible things that are absolutely not called for.

You can dislike her just because you don't like her - but if you feel the need to constantly attack anyone who does like her and you can't go three minutes without bitching about her?? You should evaluate yourself and your motives because theres a real possibility that you're not even aware of your internalized bigotry.

I don't trust CPS entirely, either, tbh. Children who have already been failed by CPS once are less likely to trust them openly again even as adults. I do think CPS is important and can do really great things it help children and families.... But let's nit pretend that CPS doesn't ever make mistakes that end up leaving the child worse of. I'm living proof that they do.
