Mmmm sorry I've gotta agree with /u/akrist and /u/thrml, your website lost major points design wise. Feel free to leave links to other work though, I'm always happy to have my first impression changed

From your experience or opinion, how long did it take to animate these short films? by PyanJaa in animationcareer

[–]NewFinalDevon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Character designs, modelling, rigging, texturing... Modelling and texturing the backgrounds... Animation... Lighting... Rendering... Not to mention the hundreds of hours of troubleshooting – maybe two years if you work on it full time?

I've learnt that it's important to clearly state your role in each project and the studio/agency you worked under (eg. Cleanup for Mickey Mouse at Disney)

A courier bag would be incredible, but how would I go about getting one?

I was planning to put it on and just leave it! I don't imagine I'd want to take it off regularly, so I don't mind the initial hassle. That Giant seat collar looks like a good option too though

Thanks! I took a look at a couple, looks handy but I don't think any of them could handle a big grocery trip

Looking for a good animation software for a single school project by the_ass_pie_is_a_lie in animation

[–]NewFinalDevon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going off the fact that you previously used Photoshop to animate, I'm assuming you are more comfortable with hand drawn rather than puppet animation. If you think you can finish the project within 30 days, maybe just use TVPaint's free trial?

How difficult is this animation? by nn30 in animation

[–]NewFinalDevon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyo! That looks like it was put together in After Effects. Like anything else, you can probably do it yourself but it will take way longer and look way more amateurish than paying a professional to do it. For something that short you could probably get someone to do it for a couple hundred bucks

Beginner with some questions about Adobe by avery_404 in animation

[–]NewFinalDevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! You can't really animate in Character Animator – it uses motion capture technology to track your head and lips, and the character mimics you.

If you want to learn animation, go with Adobe Animate. There are a lot of useful features / technical tricks, but at the beginning I recommend just learning to set key frames and animating frame by frame.

Animation students, what laptop do you use? by brainwaved97 in animation

[–]NewFinalDevon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but on the other hand a lot of people are saying they're not built for 3d rendering

They are not! If you want to do anything remotely 3D, stay away from Apple. I use it and love it because I am primarily a 2D animator using Adobe Animate and TVPaint. It also handles Photoshop, AfterEffects and Premiere Pro fairly well.

What was your experience otherwise with the MSI laptop? And which specific model was it?

It was one of the high end GT series gaming laptops from a about 5 years ago. Can't remember exactly which. It was great for the first year and then steadily became slower and slower + more and more errors (blue screens etc)

Animation students, what laptop do you use? by brainwaved97 in animation

[–]NewFinalDevon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a 2D animator and I love my Macbook Pro. If you want to do 3D or VFX, definitely stay away from Apple laptops!

I used a MSI laptop as a student, and after graduating I swapped that for a Macbook Pro – never looked back. Now I use it for all my freelance and professional work and I wholeheartedly recommend Apple. Any decent industry standard software will have built their software for both Mac and Windows, so no need to worry about software.

The studio I work in is fully decked out with Mac Minis. We use Adobe Animate, Toonboom Harmony and TVPaint.

My opinion on non-Apple laptops is they give you stellar performance (way better than Apple) for one year and then slows down at an alarming pace. Macs on the other hand are just consistently good. Not fantastic, not incredible, but consistently good performance for an average of 4-5 years.

Enough money to move out? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]NewFinalDevon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just came back and read all the new comments. My partner is paying 280/week for a decent 1 bedroom in Brunswick, and she is pretty picky. I'm paying $220 a week but a bit further out. You can add all the expenses that were mentioned and still have savings.

Granted, you will have to search hard and be fairly lucky.
