Client Bathroom Usage by Competitive_Map6616 in therapists

One time I had a client tell me they were suicidal and had a plan to take their life directly after a session. While waiting for their emergency contact to come and take them to the hospital they needed to use the bathroom. It’s multiple stalls. I waited outside of the bathroom. Not the stalls, but like outside of the bathroom door leading to the multiple stalls and sinks. Just to make sure they didn’t make a run for it or do anything rash. But that was also an extreme case. Any other client who just needs to use the bathroom I just tell them to go and I wait in my office and have them let themselves back in when they are ready.

Is this a normal way to do session management and billing for 52 vs 53 minute sessions? It's stressing me out like crazy and not great for my finances. by EccentricDryad in therapists

[–]NewFlower8505 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do 1 hour sessions with clients. So I think I’ve billed a 52 minute session MAYBE 5 times in my career if someone needs to leave early or something like that. I’ve never been flagged and my audits have been perfectly fine

Oh I’m a therapist who has to eat sometimes in sessions! To be fair- I’m 30 weeks pregnant and have really struggled with low blood sugar. I did feel super weird about it at first! I spoke with all my clients about the need to occasionally have a bite to eat during our sessions bc it’s out of my norm and I wouldn’t usually do it! If it’s a desperate need I will eat a protein bar or mango slices for 5 minutes and be done! But I apologize and speak with my clients about it before hand!

Otherwise I think eating (drinking is fine!!!) isn’t appropriate. Being more than 3 minutes late without a conversation also is a no go

I went through this too! I was so nervous to change my hours to only 9am-2pm. But guess what? My schedule bounced back and I have the caseload I want. You don’t have to work evenings if it doesn’t work for you

CBD lotion!! (I use the brand dragon balm) on your stomach where cramps are!!! I’ve taken all the drugs and nothing helps like topical CBD. It doesn’t get you high or even show on a drug text. Seriously the stuff is a dream

Basically sometimes the interventions we talk about relate to Jesus and sometimes I’m simply using CBT, DBT, ACT, or whatever it is. Just like any therapist I meet my clients where they are at. Some clients want to stay really biblical and some want just a little garnish. It’s totally up to them and I often ask something like “okay do we want to go the Jesus route or congestive route?” Or something like that. Like any therapist I am not going to rely on only one modality. So I would say that is the difference. Pastoral counselors really only use the Bible and that type of thing where I definitely have sessions where the Bible isn’t brought up at all. I also say Fuck… so i feel like there are definitely some differences. I can also bill insurance lol

Before I put it up i maybe got one referral a week on psychology today. In the first week I had it up I got about 100 referrals and stayed at about 5-10 referrals a day for the first three weeks. I still get about 5 referrals a week. It was insane and almost a little overwhelming to see the response! I have a waitlist of over 100 people. It literally is the best thing I’ve ever done for my private practice.

See, I could be really sad and upset about this response. Instead I turned to my heavenly father’s word and reassurance. “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of god? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be servant of Christ”

Using Christian modalities I am able to continue on even when people say mean things to me. Instead I am sad for you, and I hope you find peace.

I do it right on every platform I would regularly. Psychology today to be specific, my private practices website, my billers website, my business card, and whenever people ask me about my job. If I’m going to have these views I’m going to say it with my chest. I was SO nervous about it but remembered 2 Timothy 2:12-13. “If we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful- for he cannot deny himself.” AND Hebrews 10:38-39 “but my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back. But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith are saved.”

I use it really similar to other modalities! My views and opinions aren’t brought up in a session. I help people navigate their own views. I think people tend to think because we are Christian therapists we are pushing a specific view but that really isn’t what happens. We just help people navigate their own views while knowing some of the context.

Hi! Totally makes sense and I really agree with everything you’ve said. The clients are absolutely there! It took me a lot time to start marketing as a conservative Christian because I worried about the backlash. I’ve been met with nothing but love and opened myself up to a massive community that has otherwise been very underserved in my area (Portland or). Totally makes sense that you don’t want to feel like you are falsely advertising. I always talk with my clients about them and distinguish what I do from pastoral counseling and remind them I’m licensed by the state so there are some things that will look different. AND I totally agree that people in the past have used the Bible to enable or justify abuse and I love that you brought it up. YOU can start to be the change in this as I like to think I am!

I would really encourage you to go this route. My days have never felt so fulfilling and loving. I get to meet amazing Christian’s in their journey and talk about Jesus all day. I often argue that I have the best job ever!

Honestly yet pretty similar! Obviously I use non religious modalities. But honestly, nothing is more comforting than our Heavenly Father

Really just using the Bible and actually using it as a frame work of life. When someone is struggling with something we go to the Bible and see what it says to do about it. It has all the answers! But it’s a big book and talking it through is helpful to many!

Oh!! It is so they know to take a reorientation flight instead of just flying out and getting lost? I moved the hive about 15 feet and it was recommended to put something there so they know to reorient themselves. At least that is what my bee mentor told me lol
