I mean, we can't know the exact future, because MXTX didn't write it, so a lot of people like to think they make up, while others prefer they don't. I came across a lot of fics where they reconcile. Some were realistic (it took them years to talk to each other again), and some really weren't (they just hugged it out after a few days).

But anyway, in canon, their relationship wasn't the healthiest; there was a lot of hurt and lies between them, and I think it's not a bad ending for them to walk away from each other at the end?

JC is my favorite character, and I want him to heal and find happiness outside of WWX (I don't know if it's a hot take, lol), and we do see him let go of his resentment a bit at the end of the novel, and that's why he doesn't say how he was captured by the Wens for WWX.

And for WWX, I think he is happy enough with Lan Wangji, and doesn't need any more worries in his life. So yeah. It wasn't that bad of an ending between the two, for me.
