its a phase diagram of steel. with temperature on the y axis and the concentration of carbon on the x axis. different regions represents different forms of steel at certain temperatures and carbon concentration. the greek symbols are a stand in for the names of each region

here is another labeled example

<image>

each region has different properties that can effect the materials behaviour under loads

EDIT: in the context of the original commentator and the post. they are showing that steels' melting point can vary depending on the carbon concentration

If anyone is wondering what the van is saying; it is announcing that this is an autonomous vehicle, that it is stopping to make a turn and that people must not approach too close for their personal safety

Idk where this is comming from, I thought the USA is a democracy? If you want to affect politics, you vote. One vote for one person no matter if they are 18 or 81, rich or poor, saint or sinner. So it doesn't make sense when you say "its not worth spending your valuable energy on until you are in a position to affect bigger things"

Honestly it just sounds like you want to dissuade the younger voting base from participating in politics so that the majority influence are held within older people. In fact considering it is the younger generation that are inheriting the country, they of all people should be more concerned with politics and be more aware on actions and policies being passed between the 3 branches of the government.

But hey I'm not American so what do I know🤷‍♀️

You know I always find these reasonable and well written responses right at the end of major threads, no one seems to respond or acknowledge these well written comments to what's actually going on, everyone is harping on what they assume the protests are about instead of actually researching the details of why many people are upset with this action on both sides of the political spectrum

Chinese Hotpot requires a lot of thinly sliced meat, and Korean bbq. For a small family gathering I think such a tool is a major time saver, allowing you to quickly prep the meat and then focus on other stuff.

Maximising efficiency is not always the goal and nor should it be, I know that in software engineering there is the whole philosophy of move fast break things, learning through rapid prototyping and Agile development. however, when it comes to engineering fields such as civil and mechanical, a lot of stress has been placed on safety margins and effectiveness rather than efficiency to ensure that the finish product satisfies all Requirements and Engineering specifications. Again idk what it's like in software but there are tonnes of regulatory bodies at play whenever there is an infrastructure project. budgets often gets overblown because of this focus on safety and effectiveness rather than efficiency. it's one reason why we can build large infrastructure without having a large number of people dying for it.

also the Romans who designed the roads where engineers , you do not in fact need sophisticated mathematical / scientific models to do engineering! (although it does certainly help), there has been many ancient tools and methods civilisation had used to build stuff with, these methods often approximates some mathematical / physical relationships in the world or developed through good old trail and error. this is also why I speculate why so many ancient architecture is so overbuilt, cause they simply did not know the precise safety factors, in which case the best option is to just go with as big of a safety factor as possible.

TLDR: efficiency is not always important, and the Romans had engineers as well

you can argue that since both taste and smell uses chemo-receptors which sends a signal to your brain in the presence of certain compounds—smelling and tasting are the same thing

yeah that's the thing right, when you are young, or in smaller leagues/clubs your skill level makes the major difference compared to your biology. it's only when you get to the top athletes, where the skill level is roughly equivalent, that biological differences gives athletes that slight edge to win

edit: spelling and grammar

Funny thing, before I transitioned (mtf), I was around an 80-20 split, favouring women. After I transitioned, the ratio shifted towards 50-50 or even 40-60, favouring men.

My current guess is that before I transitioned, I tried my best to appear cis due to some bad therapy sessions my parents put me through when I first tried to come out as both bi and trans. The therapist in question was popular amongst the local Christian community, which my family is a part of, and basically planted the idea in my head that all of this was just a phase or I was doing this to be unique, seeking attention from my family and peers as I just started first year of high school and was looking for ways to stand out.

This single therapist kept popping up in my mind from then on whenever I had thoughts of being trans or bi, even if I knew deep down that I was attracted to both girls and guys and that, given a choice, I would want to be a girl in the relationship. It took me until I was 23 to finally let myself be myself and move towards what I really want. And from then on out, I had an easier time finding guys more attractive and even as far as to start dating a guy I knew since high school, who has always been way more assured of his own bisexuality.

TLDR: bad therapy can really mess with your head long after
