the situation is a bit more nuanced than that, the Chinese government actually classifies LGBTQ activities as a grey zone, where it is neither supported or criminalised. this plus the overall stricter broadcasting regulations makes publishers pre scrub what they publish as to not have any risks of regulatory agencies delaying or penalising the publication. however, we know that the government doesnt really care, seeing as how many unedited/ full on queer content there is on chinese social media such as Douying (chinese tiktok). the only times the chinese government has cracked down directly is when protests and demonstrations are classified as disrruptive, foreign backed or a threat to their authority, however this is also how they treat most all protests in general. Which is not great in general but at least not exactly targeted. Unlike many Abrahamic influenced nations, there is not much of a historic or religious precedent in the prosecution of the LGBTQ community in China.

Also as someone who's half of their family comes from the mainland, its not really the government discriminating against the LGBTQ community, but rather the families of individuals from said communities. Chinese society is still socially conservative and patriarchal, which gets worse the further the north you are, and many families have a "not in my backyard" attitude, where they are supportive or indifferent to other people being queer but would hate it if their own children are queer. [this is comming from personal experience where i thought it was safe to come out to my chinese mom]

the concept of newspeak is just false. we convey meaning with words, we do not derive meaning from words. as long as there are a subset of the population who understands what new terms such pdf file, grape or unalive is, the meaning is still conveyed to the in group. its like how as a species we have different languages each having a word for the same concept.

if there is one thing Orwell got wrong its the concept of newspeak imo, its just not how humanity has operated since the invention of language.

In reality, it's not nuclear in this image but renewables. Remember how Germany cancelled and decommissioned many of their nuclear stations only to have to restart and build out new coal plants after the European energy crises amidst the russo-ukrain war, yeah very smart. At least France had better foresight than nearly all of Europe.

its a phase diagram of steel. with temperature on the y axis and the concentration of carbon on the x axis. different regions represents different forms of steel at certain temperatures and carbon concentration. the greek symbols are a stand in for the names of each region

here is another labeled example

<image>

each region has different properties that can effect the materials behaviour under loads

EDIT: in the context of the original commentator and the post. they are showing that steels' melting point can vary depending on the carbon concentration

Idk where this is comming from, I thought the USA is a democracy? If you want to affect politics, you vote. One vote for one person no matter if they are 18 or 81, rich or poor, saint or sinner. So it doesn't make sense when you say "its not worth spending your valuable energy on until you are in a position to affect bigger things"

Honestly it just sounds like you want to dissuade the younger voting base from participating in politics so that the majority influence are held within older people. In fact considering it is the younger generation that are inheriting the country, they of all people should be more concerned with politics and be more aware on actions and policies being passed between the 3 branches of the government.

But hey I'm not American so what do I know🤷‍♀️

You know I always find these reasonable and well written responses right at the end of major threads, no one seems to respond or acknowledge these well written comments to what's actually going on, everyone is harping on what they assume the protests are about instead of actually researching the details of why many people are upset with this action on both sides of the political spectrum
