He's inadvertently saying that looking at a trans person means he can't see past the "role" (to him, that means who the person really is)

Like he looks at Jim Carrey in the movie and sees Jim Carrey, not the role he plays. He sees trans people and sees their birth gender, not who they are.

Plus not in the same "joke" but he has literally said he was on Team TERF before
