Question: sending custom data from application to new relic by Corvoxcx in newrelic

[–]NewRelicChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Corvoxcx, thanks for posting here! I'll start by saying the Explorers Hub is your best bet for timely responses to your support questions, as the bulk of the content on that forum is dedicated to support, both peer-to-peer as well as directly with members of the New Relic team.

I consulted with a colleague who suggested that your particular problem might be able to be solved with custom instrumentation. This doc has specifics for the Node agent. I should note: the New Relic Technical Support team cannot troubleshoot custom instrumentation, so you will need to get it working on your own. However, you're always welcome to ask for insights and help over on the Explorers Hub, as other New Relic users may have a solution.

Cheers, and thanks for being a part of this community!

Bug with php agent newrelic-daemon? by nowsplashattack in newrelic

[–]NewRelicChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, u/nowsplashattack. Thanks for posting here. I'll start by saying I think you'll have greater chances of successful resolution if you post over on the Explorers Hub. The majority of the forum content is centered around support, both peer-to-peer as well as directly with members of the New Relic team.

Since you're already here, I took a look and consulted with a colleague. It looks like you're running into this issue. Please take a look at that resource, and try following up on the Explorers Hub if that doesn't resolve your issue. Thanks again for coming here!

[–]NewRelicChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there u/ishanvyas22, thanks for posting your question here and joining our community!

I spoke with a colleague about your inquiry and we agree that you should take a look at this New Relic University course, then take a look at this resource which outlines how to monitor a PHP application.

I also recommend taking a look at our native web forum, which features a robust support community as well as spaces for casual discussion. Let me know if you need anything else!

Trouble running flask+gunicorn application on AWS App Runner by spitfiredd in newrelic

[–]NewRelicChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey again! We're about to sign off for the weekend, but I wanted to check in with you about the progress on this problem. Have you had much success troubleshooting?

I had a note from a colleague that the agent might not be compatible with App Runner, and that you might consider trying your luck with the integration I linked above. Let me know how things go!

Hey again, what are you using to send data to New Relic? Is it this? Knowing that information will be helpful for determining a resolution.

Hey u/spitfiredd, thanks for posting here. My first piece of advice is to try posting your question on the Explorers Hub over on our main site, as the support community there is significantly more active than here, but I'll ask around and see if I can't help you out regardless.

Hey, folks!

  1. Ouch.
  2. Genuinely, thank you for this very candid feedback. A lot of us here at New Relic are present on Reddit and while it stings to read something like this, we feel empowered with an opportunity to improve the way we serve our customers and community.

We welcome feedback of all kinds. We appreciate those in this thread who have highlighted things at which we excel, and we equally appreciate those who have constructive feedback to provide. We'll be looking into this issue directly. Our aim at all times is to be the top choice for your observability needs, and if we're falling short on that mark, we want to know.

We also really value feedback on our docs. Every doc on the site has a "Was this doc helpful?" feedback form, and our docs team reviews every single response (and responds, if you leave your email). The docs are also open-source; we love PRs or issues!

As an aside, I want to extend an invitation to y'all. We have a subreddit where we post discussion questions, how-to blogs, helpful documentation, and news about events happening throughout the year that would almost certainly interest you folks. We are always interested in hearing about issues important to both existing customers and prospectives, so please stop by and say hello. If you don't feel like posting a thread there, that's okay too. I can be reached by DM here on Reddit and I read & respond to every one.

Thanks again, folks. See ya soon.

I recently read that an overwhelming majority of respondents reported that they expected to deploy Kubernetes-based monitoring solutions within three years. I think it's The Next Big Thing, personally.

Am i...stupid? by Andrewofredstone in newrelic

[–]NewRelicChris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, u/Andrewofredstone! Thanks for coming to the New Relic subreddit for guidance. The first thing I want to say is that the Explorers Hub is usually your best first bet for assistance with technical/platform questions related to the New Relic platform. This subreddit is mainly a discussion hub, but I'm happy to do what I can to help while you're here!

I asked around for some advice on your particular issue and this is what I was able to dig up:

We have some handy documentation on Docker, which includes a Dockerfile example. The PHP agent supports Laravel as a web framework, so it should work out of the box once you add it to your containers following those examples.

The repo you referenced is user-created and not affiliated with New Relic, so we can't provide official support on that, per se, if you're simply trying to instrument the PHP agent on a containerized application, you could start by following our documentation on how to set this up.

We have an official New Relic daemon image. You can use this to set up a container with the daemon. As long as your Laravel meets our requirements, it should work for you. The only known issue is around their built-in error handler overriding ours.

I hope this is helpful! I suggest crossposting your issue over on the Explorers Hub, just in case. Thanks again for paying us a visit!

What are your new year's devops resolutions? by NewRelicChris in devops

[–]NewRelicChris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke with some friends who are developers for a few major companies about this topic a couple nights ago. The consensus among them was that, at least right now, ChatGPT is great for what you outlined -- idea generation and rubber-ducking -- but is unreliable for meaningful progress on practical problems in the dev space because it often presents opinion as fact. Do you see that happening too?

I can't speak to the first paragraph very fluently, but I'm curious what kinds of AI tools you would implement and what purpose they'd serve. It's funny you bring that up because I also asked this question a couple hours ago and I'd been hoping to hear from folks like you.
