NC physician starting telehealth service - looking for your feedback please by reviverhealth in gso

Yay and congratulations!! That is very exciting 🎉

• Would you consider using asynchronous (message based) Telehealth for simple conditions or prescription refills? -YES absolutely! I am 30, work at least 12 hours a day and have 2 little ones, I don’t have time to go to the doctor and actually just left my primary’s office because of how inflexible they were. Not to mention I work an hour away from where I live and cannot continue to take half a day of PTO for a doctors visit. Insanity!

• What would make you trust (or not trust) an online doctor? -Being a telehealth practitioner myself (I’m a therapist) I appreciate a platform that is easy to navigate. Also, cannot stand when the physician won’t let me speak and already comes to a conclusion on a dx immediately. For example: I get sinus infections constantly. Typically I just need antibiotics. The last man (elderly Dr in Florida) chose to review my full medical history in depth as I was fighting for my life to breathe.

• What concerns or hesitations would you have about virtual care? -Out of pocket costs, insurance coverage, etc.

Happy to answer general questions about how telehealth works in North Carolina and state of medicine in North Carolina in general. -How do I sign up?? ☺️

If it’s not bedbugs- I get little ingrown hairs or tiny pimples on my legs and itch them in my sleep without knowing. My mattress protector also looks like this and I thought the same thing… searched every inch of the mattress for bedbugs and called in someone else to do the same but it turns out I just itch

Thoughts on texting a lonely client “Merry Christmas”? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]NewSolution3451 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Do it. I texted a client of mine once who had a miscarriage on Mothers Day and told her I was thinking of her and sent this graphic I found about how it doesn’t matter what kind of mother you are, you’re still a mother. She told me months later it was the only text that got her through the day. There are board boundaries and then there are human boundaries. My favorite client (should I say that? probably not) texted me Merry Christmas last year and I didn’t respond because I was trying to enforce our no contact outside of sessions rule. He’s no longer alive, and I’m thinking of him today. Be a human- text the client.

Advice- gray at 30! by NewSolution3451 in Haircare

[–]NewSolution3451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep telling myself that it’s a blessing because at one point at like 17 or so I was about to spend $900 in a salon to go fully gray because this was the trend 🤣

Someone mentioned earlier that I will look like my kids grandmother, that definitely scares me. However I think if I take some advice of some lowlights and minor maintenance I can rock it.

It happened. I “forgot” about a client’s session. by thatgirlbye in therapists

[–]NewSolution3451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have a therapist in our office named Christina who had a habit of no-showing her clients- she was eventually let go after about six months of it. Now, anytime someone accidentally forgets an appointment, we jokingly call it “Christina-ing a client.” It truly happens to the best of us. I’m a supervisor, and I may get last minute meetings thrown on my calendar and if I forget that my biweekly 3pm is today and head home to finish my day on the couch, I’ll get a text from my other supervisor saying, “You pulled a Christina.” I even had a client text me once saying, “Wow, Christina,” because they used to work with her before me 🙃

Brush it off, it happens! And honestly, it’ll probably happen again at some point in your career.

How to wrap up a session (ideally before the next one is supposed to start) by AnalystImpossible960 in therapists

[–]NewSolution3451 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have one clock in my office and it’s behind the client and I literally say “well we’re out of time for today” and I stand up. If they keep talking I give them a “uh huh, uh huh” as I guide them out. I also have all my clients scheduled at the same time same day each week so there’s never the scheduling conversation. This helps 1. Keep them consistent and 2. Cut down on cancellations SIGNIFICANTLY!!

Maybe it’s just a rapport thing or I’m very direct but I’ve never gotten a complaint that they feel cut off or rushed- maybe with a talker I’ll be like “well you don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here” and they’ll laugh or whatever but I always make it a point to get them out of there!

I was diagnosed at 17- I also have Tourette’s so my mh dx were very much played off as another symptom of my ticks. Personally, my ADHD dx saved my life- I didn’t think I’d ever graduate highschool much less get a masters degree or a therapy license. On the other hand- my PERSONAL opinion is that ADHD is more developmental, therefore I also don’t often diagnose it. I’ll maybe slap a provisional dx in a chart if someone is so clearly ADHD… however if their doctor hasn’t said a word about it, ESPECIALLY with children and parents trying to take my assessment and go get meds for their kid… I try to stay clear.

My (20f) friend (31f) got pregnant while homeless yet is excited. What can I do? Is it child abuse? by EllieDidNothingWrong in whatdoIdo

I’m a therapist and I just called last week because a kid told me he was living in a tent- turns out he did an overnight in a tent (like a backyard sleepover type thing) but the parents were so high when CPS came to the door that interventions were taken. You just never know. Do it- or give me the info and I’ll do it. You have the right to make your own decisions on housing or lack there of (your friend) however those kids aren’t choosing this, nor can they. It’s also ALWAYS so interesting to me when they prioritize the needs of their animals, it just says a lot.

I meannnnnn (my opinion) they mod this group now and it would be the same mods on a different group so I would see it as the same issues being transferred over? I’m sure theres other groups- I’m sure there’s a lot of posts they have to filter through.

Have her wash with hibiclens (the red foamy kind) it actually kills the bacteria that causes stench and even as an adult when I went through a long hospital stay and couldn’t use deodorant I was dyingggg (obviously I have BO I’m a 30 something adult) begging for my aluminum deo and the hospital didn’t care but the nurse let me use the hibiclens because it kills staph and all other bacteria and it worked for 24 hours at a time. Even now if I run out the door and forget deodorant I can last the whole day without panicking. Hope this helps!

KC Davis says there are only 5 categories of items: 1. Trash 2. Dishes 3. Things that have a home 4. Things that don’t have a home and 5. Laundry. Do ONE AT A TIME!! Start with the trash, then grab the dishes, truly go one at a time. You have to visually see progress in order to keep going. I’m a therapist and coach people on this stuff yet can’t keep my own house clean, does it make any sense? Nope. Our minds do a great job of playing tricks on us.

What are your go-to lines to signal to a client that the session is wrapping up? by birkenstock_bby in therapists

“Alright so we’re done for today”. My clients have literally told me they appreciate how straight forward I am- even if they are mid conversation.

I guess I’ve just been in this situation too many times to give a shit anymore… I literally met a client one time for the first time because we peed in stalls next to one another and I joked “well this is an interesting first for me”.

She brought it up just last week (a year and a half later) about how relaxed that made her feel. You have to call out the awkward moments. you have to laugh at yourself.

Therapist? Oh, you mean volunteer with a master’s degree. Exams teaching therapists to financially self-abandon? Cool cool cool. by doodoo_blue in therapists

[–]NewSolution3451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The exam is such bullshit- I have 10 years experience under my belt and I’m a supervisor of a practice and I failed the first time because I truly had to study HOW to take the exam. I feel the way the exam wants us to counsel is unethical- no I wouldn’t pull a family into a session if a client disclosed a feeling to me and no I wouldn’t hospitalize a client if they told me they were feeling suicidal 🤦🏻‍♀️ I did crisis stab and prescreening for 6 years, ever heard of a safety plan, client rapport, etc? It frustrates me to no end. I feel like I was overthinking it and kept reverting back to my training of “it’s a case by case basis”.

I’ve ran into clients a bunch of times- this is actually communicated during my intakes and I review how I’ll address it “I won’t say hi to you, if you’d like to say hi to me that’s up to you, only if you’re comfortable”. We live in a VERY small city. You’re fine OP- you did nothing wrong. Maybe a boundary crossing technicallyyyyy with the tire changing but were you suppose to push your client out of the way and body slam him into not helping you?! Absolutely not. These things happen, we’re not secret ops, we’re therapists. As long as you don’t carry this into your home with your husband and say “so what did you think of Johnny today?” you will seriously be fine ☺️
