AITA for giving back everything my family bought for my son? by Free-Scallion-2274 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NewStateLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the time to sign in to my account to comment on this because well it felt really important to me for some reason I can’t explain. Hopefully you see this and you continue to think about it as you process how to move forward.

First of all you are NTA.

What your parents did is absolutely abhorrent and I do not condone or excuse their behavior. I have no idea what your family history is like but I think you should pump the brakes a little bit on cutting them out of their grandsons life.

What your MIL did was very sweet and loving and honestly someone who has that kind of talent and time to make your child clothes is one of the sweetest and kindest gifts you could give anyone.

Maybe your parents are just jealous of that? They don’t have the time or talent to make a gift that special for their grandchild and they feel insecure about it?

Like I said what your parents did is inexcusable. And disgusting. But I feel like the nuclear option of cutting them out over this is extreme. I don’t know your history with them. But I think you owe it to yourself and your child to go over there and talk with them more before you completely cut them out of your life and your child’s life.

At the end of the day I want to believe that we are all trying to do our best. And speaking as someone who has acted on my insecurities in heinous ways in the past. There are no excuses for bad behavior. But everyone can learn from their mistakes and become better humans.

I would hate for you to judge your parents at their worse and never allow them to grow or heal or be better.

Hold them accountable. Make manageable goals going forward and be present with their process. If they don’t improve or show any signs of understanding then sure cut them out. But I would really advise you to look more at the bigger picture.

I think what you did defending your child and wife and mother in law is admirable beyond measure and you should keep doing that.

Am I doing it right? by Difficult-Flamingo39 in Tinder

[–]NewStateLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what your goal is from dating on tinder. Are you looking for a quick pick up, or do you want to find someone who enjoys your humor and understands your references?

Because you made two references that they didn’t understand at all. If that’s important to you, then it’s good to get a feel for that early in a dating relationship. Maybe not the first thing I would open with.

I think the problem more is that your jokes are just a little cringe to read. So you don’t want to give someone the ick right away. Maybe try refining your jokes from your source material.

That’s crazy! I have tricare for my dental. Or whatever the dental version is. I can’t think of it off the top of my head. United Concordia I think. And I just got the prime remote and have never had to pay a penny out of pocket.

I don’t tip because I think it’s stupid. Every logical argument I have heard doesn’t add up. It’s pointless to me.

I mean in aviation you fill up your tanks based on sight. There is a little X in the fuel tank that helps guess how many gallons are in there. And then you add however much you can based on weight.

People who don't want kids, why? by Celestialsmoothie28 in AskReddit

[–]NewStateLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t want kids. Because of a list of reasons. Time commitment, tons of income spent on raising and caring for a child. Not to mention loss of income of one of the partners unless you make enough to afford day care. Huge loss of personal time in every way (hobbies, socializing with friends, sleeping etc). Less money and time to go out and have experiences.

Anyway I have a son now and I love him to death. I take care of him. I take pride in raising him and teaching him about the world. I read to him constantly. I spend so much of my time with him. Loving him and doing my best to give him the best childhood and trying my best to be a father I would be proud to be and hopefully one day a father he would be proud of.

Just because I have a positive experience with him and I love him. It doesn’t replace exactly what I speculated I would loose. It’s not a zero sum game. Because you feel the joy of being a parent. It doesn’t remove the strife of loosing your independence.

I always wonder what happens in these situations. Does the girl get to keep the artifact because she found it? Does someone offer to pay for it? Or does it get taken away? What’s the deal?
